Increase of Grace

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. Ps. 92:12,14

Lord, one thing we want,
More holiness grant;
For more of thy mind and thy image we pant:
While onward we move
To Canaan above,

Persevering Grace

The righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. Job 17:9

The righteous, bless'd with light divine,
Shall prosper on their way;
Brighter and brighter still shall shine,
To glory's perfect day.

Confidence in Prayer

This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. 1 John 5:14

He who for man their Surety stood,
And poured on earth his precious blood,
Pursues in heaven his mighty plan,
The Saviour and the friend of man.


With boldness, therefore, at the throne,
Let us make all our sorrows known;
And ask the aid of heavenly power,
To help us in the evil hour.

Preservation in Trouble

In the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me upon a rock. Ps. 27:5

We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom. 8:28

God will keep his own anointed;
Nought shall harm them, none condemn;
All their trials are appointed;
All must work for good to them:
All shall help them
To their heavenly diadem.

Peace of Mind

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isa. 26:3

Peace in Death

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. Ps. 37:37

When sinks a weary soul to rest!
How mildly beam the closing eyes!
How gently heaves the expiring breast!

Life's labour done, as sinks the clay,
Light from its load the spirit flies;
While heaven and earth combine to say,
"How bless'd the righteous when he dies!"

Good Works to Be Done

These things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. Titus 3:8

Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Col. 3:17

Improvement of Time

Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Rom. 13:11

And live as we would wish to die.
