The first results are coming in now, and things are going to be rough. Initially, they estimate that 5 to 6 million will be without electricity, and they really don't know the extent of damage to basic services. Many people didn't obey the evacuation orders - even in Galveston. WHY? - I have no idea. The intensity of the hurricane is a (2), but some consideration should be given to the massive size of the hurricane. Most don't consider a (2) to be extremely dangerous, but Ike is bigger than the entire state of Texas. It's sad that many just looked at the intensity and decided to ride it out. BUT, the size is making for some terrible results - especially in long-term sustained winds of about 110 mph and massive flooding. The most recent reports indicate that many communication systems down - including cell phones. As a result, many won't be able to call for help, and many emergency services are also without communications. Tides have gone up to 12 feet, and the worst may be yet to come. Some experts have estimated tides of between 15 to 20 feet in the next few hours. There are also reports of tornados, so the combination of circumstances are bad. One of the first tasks will be to clear roadways for emergency services use. The depth of water in many places will prevent this for an unknown period of time, just as the high winds will prevent the use of helicopters for an unknown period of time. The back half of the storm is yet to hit, so this will give everyone an idea about how huge this storm is. As usual, the Salvation Army and the Red Cross are doing wonderful work. I'll try to keep everyone posted. They've already announced that they are in need of more volunteers. It's wonderful to watch these two organizations work when they are needed. I feel quite certain that Red Cross and Salvation Army volunteers will start responding from other states. Their excellent and stable services make them two of my favorite charities. Please also keep all of the volunteers and people trying to help in your prayers. At this point, things are still TOO DANGEROUS for emergency responders with the proper equipment.Love In Christ, Tom Favorite Bible Quotes 114 - Deuteronomy 8:16-18 Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; 17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. 18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

You should have seen some of the fools outside walking around earlier this morning. Course I've been praying wquite a bit, since yesterday, and will continue to pray. I think I slept a whole whopping 3 hours the past 40 hours. But I'm getting ready to go to bed now. Least after I read a few more posts.

I heard that Galveston did experience quite a bit of damage. They just reported on the news that there has been 5 confirmed deaths so far but I didn't catch exactly where they had taken place.

Brother, If this is all, it will be much better than what was expected. I hope and pray this is all, but the limited coverage I saw was bad. Regardless, many will need our prayers in the rough days ahead. Disasters, even on a tiny scale, are hard to deal with - especially for the elderly and the homeless. Love in Christ, Tom Favorite Bible Quotes 300 - Matthew 24:23-31 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Cute little graphic. And I'll be having some of that delicious brew in about 4 hours when I get up. You can probably tell by my small posting frenzy at this hour that I'm awake at an unusual time for me. I have lain in bed for most of the past 5 days, sick with some kind of bacterial infection and a fever of 101.5 I'm finally on the mend but I've I got a bad case of insomnia. I have spent all day with my grandson, whom I will have until Sunday, so I don't understand it. But alas, here I sit with nobody to play with or talk to since it looks like you all are in bed sawing zzzzzzz's! Well phooey with ya! Guess I'll go lay down and see what happens this time......

Good Morning Grammyluv and All! I'm sorry you've been sick. I'll be praying that you get to feeling better soon. I think that a lot of people have been sick with weird things going around. Take two aspirins, drink two cups of coffee, and call us back. SMILE HAT ON: This could all be locational. A guy went to the doctor and said, "doc, I broke my arm in three locations." The doctor said, "don't go to those three locations again." So, if you got sick at a specific location, don't go there again.

Morning all, nope I haven't been doing to good here of late. Since the bee stings, I've been very weak. My doctor has told me that my visit to the emergency room was a very close. I am allowed 2 days a week (3 hr. days) to work for the next 2 weeks. I then have to be reexamined. I was also told not to strain myself, mentally or physically. I guess satan thinks he has struck a blow, but my Lord is stronger then he is. So I'm going to follow Dr's orders, according to Lizzie. So I am home today, and the next few days. I know what I'd rather be doing but, can't at the moment. So I am here for a while drinking my coffee, reading. And yes, I was told to knock off the coffee, only 4 cups for the day.

Hello DreamWeaver, Brother Bob, we have been praying for you and hope that you get to feeling better soon. Cutting down to 4 cups of coffee a day will be horrible. Please do get some rest and follow the doctor's orders. In the meantime, don't play with bees - AND: Love In Christ, Tom Favorite Bible Quotes 3 - 1 Corinthians 12:18-27 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. 22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: 23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: 25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Only 4 cups of coffee??! Your doctor is a saddist! Well one must do what one must do. I actually down a whole pot of coffee each morning and then that is it until the next morning. I find that if I drink it in the afternoon it makes me sick. I'm sorry to hear that you're still having health issues over those bees and will continue in prayer for a speedier recovery! In Christ, Yvette

I do have my coffee, and I'm enjoying some good Christian reading. I was just wondering the same thing I wonder on a fairly frequent basis these days. What would I do different today if this was the last day on this earth? I think this is a good question for Christians to think about often. WHY? - Today just might be our last day on this earth. The RAPTURE could happen at any time, OR we could have a heart attack or any number of others things that would end this short life. Do we have an important list of things that we would like to do or know that we should do? How many of those important things pertain to GOD and Eternity? Are we concerned about a lost friend or family member? If there are things on this list that don't pertain to GOD or Eternity, how long can they wait? When we really think about things, everything on that list can wait except for the things that pertain to GOD and Eternity. How long have the MOST important things been on this list - OR, how long have we been putting them off? Are we going to be here tomorrow? Do we know?
Let's put this a different way and see if we think about things differently. In the above example, we're talking about something unknown - the years, hours, minutes, and seconds of this current life. Let's change this and talk about a known period of time - 5 minutes. Surprise - you're going to be executed in 5 minutes, and you have 5 minutes to spend doing anything you want to. What would you do for the next 5 minutes? WHEN THE ACTUAL TIME COMES - YOU PROBABLY WON'T HAVE 5 MINUTES!
Don't we have time to think about things like this?Love In Christ, Tom Favorite Bible Quotes 25 - 1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

I wouldn't do anything different, then I have for the past 20 odd years. Praying for the lost, and trying to bring others to Him. When the anaphylactic shock set in, my thoughts were on Christ. I was unconscious for 45 minutes, when I came back, my first words were "Jesus, am I home"? Then I saw the doctors, and nurses.
