Islamic studies teacher remanded for allegedly breaking student's leg

KUALA TERENGGANU: An Islamic studies teacher at a school in Marang near here has been remanded for three days until Sunday (July 17) for allegedly slamming a nine-year-old male student to his chair and breaking the boy's right leg.

The remand order against the man was issued by Kuala Terengganu Senior Assistant Registrar Rabiatul Adawiyyah Che Khalid.

Marang district police chief DSP Mohd Zain Mat Dris, when contacted, said the remand order was to enable an investigation carried out under Section 325 of the Penal Code.

Hagia Sophia’s Imperial Gate Vandalized Again

The Hagia Sophia’s historic Imperial Gate has been damaged again, as vandals appear to have pried out one of the metal plates on the 15th century oakwood door. It was the second time the door has been damaged in less than three months.

The Imperial Gate is the largest of the Hagia Sophia, which was built as a church in the Byzantine era and is among the most important sites in Orthodox Christianity.

In 2020, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan converted it from a museum into a mosque. In a New Year’s address to the nation in January 2021, Erdogan referred to his decision to convert the Hagia Sophia to a mosque as the “crown of 2020,” but the move sparked outrage throughout the Christian world.

Muslim Leader Blames Rising Meat Prices On Women’s Skimpy Clothes, ‘Naked Bodies’

An imam in Kyrgyzstan has recently come under fire for blaming the rising prices of meat products on women wearing skimpy clothes.

Sadybakas Doolov, an award-winning mullah who had previously served as the head of an Islamic university, called on elderly men to stop women from wearing skimpy outfits to bring the prices of meat products down, RFE/RL reported. He argued that prices skyrocket when women “cheapen” themselves by showing too much skin. 

"Do you know when meat prices go up in your town? It goes up when women's flesh cheapens. Woman's meat becomes cheap when she bares skin, exposes her thighs like a thumb," Doolov, 53, was quoted by as saying by RFE/RL.

For Nigerian Christians, allegations of blasphemy against Islam can be a death sentence

Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a Christian university student in northern Nigeria, was attacked and killed in May by a mob of Muslim students and Islamic extremists. School officials and security officers at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Nigeria, were unable to save her from the mob who hunted her down after it was alleged that she had committed blasphemy against Islam in a posting in a WhatsApp group.

The killing provoked outrage across Nigeria and calls for the arrest of the perpetrators. But the arrest of the alleged ringleaders of the violence in turn provoked more protests demanding the release of the suspects.

The right to have rights: The intense hatred towards a religious community

During the Eid holidays, I came across a piece of news which shocked and disgusted me to the core. I found out that three individuals in Faisalabad belonging to the Ahmadi community were arrested for performing the Islamic ritual of animal sacrifice in their homes during Eidul Azha. According to the FIR, their actions “hurt Muslim sentiments”, and therefore the “culprits” were arrested and charged under Section 298-C (which prohibits any person of the Ahmadi sect from calling himself a Muslim or preaching or propagating his faith) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to the FIR, the complainants had heard from some sources that Ahmadis were doing qurbani (animal sacrifice), and to verify this “breach” of law, they climbed up the roofs of the nearby house and from there were able to ascertain that some Ahmadis were sacrificing goats in their houses. What truly baffled me was that these individuals were arrested even though they were doing the qurbani within the confines of their homes. So now it appears that Ahmadis are not even safe within their own homes.

Four held for murder of Afghan Sufism preacher; ‘own men’ killed him for property, say cops

The Nashik Rural police on Thursday arrested four persons for the murder of a 28-year-old Sufism preacher from Afghanistan, who had been staying in India as a refugee for the last four years, before he was killed earlier this month. The deceased, Ahmed Zarif Chishti, popularly known as Khwaja Zarif Baba Syed Zarif Chishti, was shot dead in Yeola, Nashik district, by “his own men” because they wanted to usurp his properties, worth at least Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 crores, after finding out that his wife, also an Afghani national, was pregnant and that his unborn child would be the rightful heir of the wealth, police said.

After the preacher’s murder, his wife’s security was beefed up by police.

Chishti used to post videos of his preachings on a YouTube channel. Set up in 2017, the channel had 2.27 lakh followers and received over 6 crore views in five years. He received funds and donations from the public for his preachings and pujas, police said.

Taliban founder's Toyota Corolla dug up after spending 21 years buried

Afghanistan's National Museum will soon welcome an unusual new exhibit: an E100-generation Toyota Corolla station wagon that has been buried since 2001. The wagon was used by Mullah Mohammad Omar, the Taliban's founding leader, to escape American troops in 2001.

Omar relied on his humble Corolla to flee the city of Kandahar and escape to the province of Zabul shortly after the United States sent troops into Afghanistan in the aftermath of the September 2001 terrorist attacks, according to NBC. While parking the wagon in a garage would have been easier than digging a car-sized hole, the Taliban leader was worried that American soldiers would know where to find him if they located his car. He consequently wrapped it in plastic and buried it next to a mud wall in a location that was kept secret until recently.

Islamists vandalises a temple, shop and several Hindu homes over Facebook Post

In Bangladesh, Muslim mob vandalised a temple, a grocery store and several houses belonging to members of the Hindu community in the Sahapara area of Lohagara, Narail, reports The Daily Star. The police said that a Facebook post by an 18-year-old triggered the mob, who went on a rampage after the Jumma Namaz on Friday (July 15).

The mob, at first, threw stones after which they broke into the Sahapara temple and broke the furniture kept inside the premises. They attacked and vandalised a grocery store belonging to the father of the teenager who published the Facebook post that supposedly hurt their sentiments. The irate Muslim mob then went on to vandalise the Hindu teenager’s house and several others in the vicinity.

It took until late at night for the Bangladeshi police to get things under control, who used tear gas and fired empty shells to disperse the angry mob.

Islamists Try to Renew Push for Ilhan Omar’s Flawed ‘Islamophobia’ Bill

The Combating International Islamophobia Act, which appears stalled in the US Senate, is receiving a new boost from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), and other Islamist organizations. It was among the issues pushed last month when a coalition of Islamic organizations gathered in Washington, DC, to meet with elected officials and Congressional staffers.

The bill, introduced in October by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), would create a new special envoy to monitor and combat Islamophobia globally. It passed the House last December 219-212, with near-unanimous support from Democrats.

Germany: Turk fatally shoots his wife, who wanted to separate from him, in the car park

Murders of women like the one in Turkey also happen in Germany. İsmail G. followed his 32-year-old wife Rumeysa G., who wanted to leave him, and shot her in the head. The murderer executed the mother of his children with a single bullet. As it turned out, the attacker later fled to Bosnia and Herzegovina and sent a statement to his relatives in Germany.

In Stuttgart, Germany, a young mother of two, Rümeysa G. (32), who wanted to leave her husband and move to the Netherlands with her family, was executed in her car in the car park by her husband İsmail G. (36) ), whom she wanted to meet for the last time.

İsmail G., who persuaded his wife, who had been living with him for some time, to come to him for a last meeting, killed her with a single bullet to the forehead. An acquaintance of the murderous husband told the Bild newspaper: “He called me and said: ‘I shot her in the head’ and said he had done the job and committed the murder.”

Islamists outrage after a Muslim girl marries a Hindu boy in a temple in Azamgarh; VHP assures security

On 14th July 2022, a Muslim girl named Momin Khatun married a Hindu boy named Suraj in a temple in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The boy’s family members and the activists of Hindu organizations were present in the temple at the time of the marriage. The police have also met the newlyweds and assured them of security.

According to reports, the case pertains to the Atraulia police station area. Suraj hails from the Fatehgaon and Momin Khatun belongs to Haidarpur. They had an affair for about two years. When the families of both knew about their relationship, Momin Khatun’s family members asked Suraj to convert to Islam. Suraj refused to convert. Finally, Momin Khatun decided to marry Suraj at any cost, and therefore, both of them got married at a temple in Atraulia.

While talking to the media, Suraj said, “We are marrying at our own will and we are not under any kind of pressure.” Suraj’s family members were present on this occasion. The marriage was solemnized in a Hindu Vedic ritual.

Serbian authorities detain 85 migrants, seize automatic firearms and ammunition close to Hungary border

Serbian police detained 85 illegal migrants on Thursday in a northern city close to the country’s border with Hungary. The men were detained in the same area where an alleged incident occurred earlier this month, reportedly involving people smugglers, which left one person dead and several others injured.

During the police operation, a police task force seized automatic firearms and ammunition, as well as knives and other weapons across the city of Subotica in the autonomous province of Vojvodina.

Six of the migrants have since been arrested by authorities, and two have been charged with serious criminal offenses. According to a police statement, the remainder remain detained on suspicion of less serious offenses.
