Of an Incorruptible Body

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 Cor. 15:54

Where then thy triumph, Grave? and where thy sting,
O sullen Death? what terror dost thou bring?
We burst thine iron band, and soar on high--
Glory to Christ the Lord, who brings us victory!

Of a Glorious Body

Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. Phil. 3:21

My flesh shall slumber, in the ground
Till the last trumpet's joyful sound;
Then burst the chains, with sweet surprise,
And in my Saviour's image rise.

Of Being with Christ

To me to live is Christ, and to die is gain, For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better. Phil. 1:21, 23

'Tis best, 'tis infinitely best,
To go where tempests never come;
Where saints and angels, ever blest,
Dwell, and enjoy their heavenly home.

Of Being Ever with Christ

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thess. 4:17

Oh, who can tell what joy shall beam
On all the ransom'd race,
When they shall join the hallow'd strains
And see the Saviour's face!

Of Reigning with Christ

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: if we suffer, we shall also reign with him. 2 Tim. 2:11, 12

Ever upward may we move,
Wafted on the wings of love:
Looking when our Lord shall come,
Longing, gasping after home!
There may we with thee remain,
Partners of thine endless reign.

Of Being Like Christ

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

Him eye to eye we there shall see,
Our face like his shall shine:
Oh, what a glorious company,
When saints and angels join!

Of an Heavenly Habitation

We know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Cor. 5:1

There is a home for weary souls,
By sin and sorrow driven;
When toss'd on life's tempestuous shoals,
Where storms arise, and ocean rolls,
'Tis found above--in heaven.

Of Perfection of Knowledge in Heaven

Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Cor 13:12

As through a glass I dimly see
The wonders of thy love;
How little do I know of thee,
Or of the joys above!

'Tis but in part I know thy will--
I bless thee for the sight--
When will thy love the rest reveal
In glory's clearer light?

Of a Crown of Righteousness

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day. 2 Tim. 4:8

God has laid up in heaven for me
A crown which cannot fade;
The righteous Judge, in that great day,
Shall place it on my head.

Of Reunion with Glorified Spirits

What is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 1 Thess. 2:19

We soon shall join the throng,
Their pleasures we shall share,
And sing the everlasting song
With all the ransom'd there:
Hallelujah!
We are on our way to God.

Believer's Anticipations a Call to Holiness

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Pet. 3:14

Yet with these prospects full in sight
I'll wait thy signal for my flight;
For while thy service I pursue,
I find a heaven in all I do.

Eternal Life the Gift of God

Now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. 6:22, 23

From thee, my God, my joys shall rise,
And run eternal rounds,
Beyond the limits of the skies,
And all created bounds.

Eternal Life the Purchase of Christ

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Heb. 9:12

Pardon and peace to dying men,
And endless life are given:
By the rich blood that Jesus shed
Our souls are brought to heaven.

Eternal Life Secured by the Spirit

The Holy Spirit of promise is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Eph. 1:13, 14

Dost thou not dwell in all the saints,
And seal the heirs of heaven?
When wilt thou banish my complaints,
And show my sins forgiven.

Heaven the Desire of the Saints

Whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord, we are confident, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:6, 8

In that bright city I would dwell,
With that bless'd church the Saviour praise,
And, safe, redeem'd from death and hell,
Sit at his feet through endless days.
