Good Morning Everyone! I'm off for my second cup of coffee, and it sure is good here. We've had a cold front where I live and rain for the last several days, so a good cup of hot coffee hits the spot. Sister Maria, we missed you. I'm glad the server is back up. I'll brag just a little bit about my ISP. They are a small and local provider, and I think they've been down a total of 6 hours since they opened. Other than the hand-crank for the phone I use for dial-up, everything is great. I'm thinking that some of the younger folks will be wondering what a hand-crank telephone is.

We had the hand cranked style. I still remember getting one over on the two elderly ladies that liked to listen in on our phone calls. I better not go there though. I was a baaadd boy.

Sister Maria, I lived in a house where only adults were even allowed to touch the phone. The fear was unintentional long distance calls and the inability to pay the bills. I only got in trouble a couple of times, and I learned in a hurry the phone was a no-touch item. For local calls, we had a 3 digit telephone number. I have no idea how many people were on our party line, but there was a law requiring everyone to hang up if anyone had an emergency. I seem to remember that parents could get in trouble for children playing on the phone or leaving the phone off the hook. The bottom line is we were allowed on the phone only when adults told us to talk to grandma or something like that. In all other cases, the board of education was applied to the seat of learning.

I grew up in a strict home too, but I still snuck in "pick-up the phone in" We weren't even allowed outside to play we had to play in the hallway and the stairs of the apartment building we lived in. Back then where we lived the buildings were mostly brick or brownstone, and the foyers were very big, almost as big as m small bedroom. Those were the days. I remember the door to our apartment didn't even have a lock, we had a small eye-hook .........
