Sister Maria, I lived in a house where only adults were even allowed to touch the phone. The fear was unintentional long distance calls and the inability to pay the bills. I only got in trouble a couple of times, and I learned in a hurry the phone was a no-touch item. For local calls, we had a 3 digit telephone number. I have no idea how many people were on our party line, but there was a law requiring everyone to hang up if anyone had an emergency. I seem to remember that parents could get in trouble for children playing on the phone or leaving the phone off the hook. The bottom line is we were allowed on the phone only when adults told us to talk to grandma or something like that. In all other cases, the board of education was applied to the seat of learning. I have heard some of the folks talk about the 3 digit number....thats how you knew people. LOL!

Hello Amorus, You are completely correct. Things were pretty simple then - not just with phones, but in most things. I can't remember all of the details, but I do remember that we had two more digits when we called outside town but in the same area. I do still remember that because the selected area name was a town several miles from us. It was "EL" - short for Elgin. It's funny that I remembered that and not the three digit number we had for so long. I really miss the simplicity and the morals of those more simple times. On the other side of the coin, many would talk about huge developments in the health field and other fields that definitely did impact the quality of life. As an example, children were still dying and being crippled with polio when I was growing up. There would be many pros and cons of comparing yester-years with today, but I'm still partial to older times. Love In Christ, Tom Proverbs 22:2 NASB The rich and the poor have a common bond, The LORD is the maker of them all.

For those of you that may live in an area that doesn't show seasons or may be house bound and can't get out to enjoy the beauty of God's handwork. http://www.highcountrywebcams.com/webcameras_BooneCam.htmThis is the season there where we see the many colors that He has painted the countryside. I was able to live in the region in and work in the area around Boone, NC for a little over a year. There are many live cams that you can choose from in the listing to see the various stages of the fall colors. Different areas go from early to late color season depending on the elevation of that area. This is also the rainy season so some cams may not have a current view that can be seen through the rain.

WOW! - That's beautiful.
THANKS!
I have a slow dial-up, but it still works. I had no idea that people with slow connections could use those. It's really no problem at all and like taking a trip to the area.

You're most welcome. The cams are also slow in updating and some have fixed pictures so it makes it easy for those with slower connections.
Sister where you are also has some beautiful scenery. I love to watch the sun rise and set on the ocean. When out on a ship I would take the time when possible to go outside at sunrise and sunset just so I could see it and spend some time with the Lord. It was quite calming.

OH YES!!!!! The beautiful sunsets are what I get to see, there are too many trees blocking the sunrise, but in the evening when the sun is setting it is so beautiful, that's when I love to go for a walk and just be with the Lord, and look at the sunset. The evenings are a little cooler too.
