Most of the americans on this forum probably won't have heard of a 80's band called 'The Smiths'. anywayz, there personally one of my favourte bands.  They did a song called 'Meat is Murder', i think its a very powerful and correct song, i've been a vegetarian for about 9 years now and anyone else who is a vegetarian on the forum can definately relate to these lyrics, and maybe the meats eaters on hear might be converted you never know.  Anywayz here are the lyrics to the song...

Heifer whines could be human cries
Closer comes the screaming knife
This beautiful creature must die
This beautiful creature must die
A death for no reason
And death for no reason is murder

And the flesh you so fancifully fry
Is not succulent, tasty or kind
It’s death for no reason
And death for no reason is murder

And the calf that you carve with a smile
Is murder
And the turkey you festively slice
Is murder
Do you know how animals die ?

Kitchen aromas aren’t very homely
It’s not comforting, cheery or kind
It’s sizzling blood and the unholy stench
Of murder

It’s not natural, normal or kind
The flesh you so fancifully fry
The meat in your mouth
As you savour the flavour
Of murder

No, no, no, it’s murder
No, no, no, it’s murder
Oh ... and who hears when animals cry ?

Every hear a fruit or vegatable cry? Probably not however, life is life and fruits and vegatables are life. Lets stop eating all together so everything else on the planet can live. If you want to stop eating meat thats your choice.

I personally could not go without meat or fish. There are natural nutrients that you can't get ...unless you take supplements. Even then, supplements are more expensive and they cant cover everything a good salmon or steak provides your body.

While we are quoting songs, here is one for you:

Should I See
by Frozen Ghost

cover my eyes and ears
til it all dissapears
how can you judge for me
what i should hear and see
you take away freedom of choice
take away the right to voice
my beliefs and and all my views
you take away my right to choose

chorus:
(na na na na na naaaah...)
show me what should i see
(na na na na na naaaah...)
make my mind up for me

how can you censor my thought
what is right what is not
how is it you decide
what i should feel inside
quoting god as you discuss
what is right and wrong for us
you inundate us with your views
you take away my right to choose

(repeat chorus)

you take away freedom of choice
you take away my right to voice
my beliefs and all my views
you take away my right to choose

(repeat chorus )

...make my mind up for me
show me what should i see

when talking about being a meat eater or a vegetarian, it makes me think of verses like Exodus 16:8. Depending on what Bible you use it says something like this:

"And Moses said, This shall be, when the Lord shall
give you flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to
           the full............."

In the feeding of the 5 thousands, Jesus provided fish and bread. (Luke chapter 9).  And oh yes here is another one Mark 7:18-23 and I quote from my Bible as Jesus himself spoke (again look up in your own Bible.)

"Are you so dull?" He asked. "Don't you see that
nothings that enters a man from the outside can
make him 'unclean'? For it doesn't go into his heart
but into his stomach, and then out of his body."
(In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean").
He went on: What comes out of a man is what
makes him 'unclean'. For from within, out of men's
hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft,
murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness,
envy, slander, arrogance and folly. all these evils
come from inside and make a man 'unclean'."

This impresses upon me that God/Jesus offered fish and meat(flesh) and bread etc. to use for our food. Man's reasoning is not the same as God's reasoning. If God blessed these things as food for our body, I don't see why I should see it as differently. I will be more concern about what I feed my soul. Thank you for the thoughts.

What I find humerous about people who tell you how to eat is they rarely, if ever tell you how to exercise. They have people believing that its mostly the eating habbits will make you healthier. Atleast 30min Exercise a day on whatever eating habit you choose to go with is half the battle.

eg: I'd really like to hear what Atkin's would say about all the carbs Lance Armstrong eats.

We didn't work our way to the top of the food chain to just eat  fruits and vegatables  Wink

Honestly though, eat what makes your body feel good. Just be sure to exercise too!

*I* certainly have nothing against vegetarians...I even tried being one a few years back.

I'd just like to point out, though...

''The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance  and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.  And a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat." But Peter said, "Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean." And a voice spoke to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed you must not call common."  This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again. '' Acts 10:9-18

God gave us permission to eat these.
So I am not sinning if I sit down to supper of beef briskit, it is just that you find it unpleasent that we kill animals and eat.

I have to agree with you, sincereheart. Grin
I have nothing against any vegetarians, more power to you if you can make it work for you.
I would never make a good vegetarian. I like the taste of meat too much. What you buy is what you get, if you buy cheap meat thats what you get.

1 Timothy 4:
3   Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4   For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5   For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6   If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

I'll stick with God's Word and enjoy that freshly hunted meat! Wink
