That would, of course, depend highly upon who those people are, Brother Tom.  For instance, people in the southwest would talk about the movie, "Monkey Shine" and consider whether or not it was a good movie or not.  People in the southeast would be talking about liquor made from monkeys.  People from the Oklahoma region would be talking about the indigineous monkey populations shining yodelling capabilities.  Can you be more specific?

Where the jeans are concerned, it relates to the duplicity of application.  That is, while there is one body, there are two legs.  While there is one body there are two feet, hence, a pair of socks, a pair of jeans, and so on.  As for the shirt concept not being a pair, that deals with the oneness of individual.  Arms bring in to the whole, legs go out amongst the world.  (Ya know, I could actually sell this drivel!!   )

As for the TV set, in the days of it's conception, the TV was often a piece of furniture.  It was the entertainment center and television in one, hence, a set.

The species Fastidious Spitticus, from which the alpaca variant derives, is indigenous to South-Central Asia, while the species Spitticular Wannabeticus, from which the llama variant derives, is indigenous to Northeastern Asia.  Apart from the obvious species differences, the alpaca is known for its ability to spit great distances with surprising accuracy.  The following is an account from a Mongolian goat-herder:

"Thi mui cal tupec i weeway won ussi."

The llama is noted for its pack-animal capability, as well as its inability to spit, and its complete lack of accuracy.  In short, llama's merely drool and with no directional sense whatsoever.
