The people of Lystra were so dazzled by Paul and Barnabas that they called them by the names of two Greek gods.  What were the names?

(Acts, James, Jude)

Jupiter and Mercury

(Act 14:12 KJV)  And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

In order to give someone else a chance to answer, I figure I'll give this one more day before I answer. Besides I have been going to the VA hospital, just general appointments nothing serious; so I am just resting after each trip there and back.

Simon
(Act 8:9 KJV)  But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

After reading the next few verses one has to wonder if Simon was a true Christian:
Act 8:18  And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
Act 8:19  Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
Act 8:20  But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Act 8:21  Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

he didn't even pray to our Lord Jesus for repentance as he asked Peter to pray for him instead.
(Act 8:24 KJV)  Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

Act 8:21  Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

That's a good point and I didn't think he could've really been saved either.  Of course just being baptized with water doesn't make a person saved.

John 1: 33 says:
33I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'

and John 3:5
5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit

So Simon evidently was going through the outward motions.

he didn't even pray to our Lord Jesus for repentance as he asked Peter to pray for him instead.
(Act 8:24 KJV)  Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

I'm thinking that Simon just didn't get it.  Before Christ's death and in those days people didn't pray directly to God.  The priests did it.  So Simon was still in that mode probably.  If he had gotten the message and been born of the Spirit I assume he would've known.
Got anything to add PR?

A queen of Ethiopia.

(Act 8:26 KJV)  And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

(Act 8:27 KJV)  And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

After doing a little studing on the queen of the Ethiopians, I see that the name Candace is just a title and not an actual name of a person used in this verse.
one commentary has:
Under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. Candace had her seat of power on the island of Meroe, a large island of the Nile, about a thousand miles from the mouth of the river. The name Candace seems to have belonged to several queens of this kingdom. It is still seen inscribed on the ruined palace walls of Meroe.

This is pretty much correct. The word Candace, pronounced Kan - duh - see, is seen through archeology as being an entire line of queens. Some consider it a title like Pharoah yet others think it may have been a family name.

Hey, interesting stuff guys.  I didn't know that!  I have always been a bit facinated by names so here's one I can add.
Thanks, both of you for contributing to the answer!

What judge of Israel was visited by an angel whose staff caused meat and bread to be consumed by fire?

(Exodus, Joshua, Judges)

Gideon:
(Jdg 6:19 KJV)  And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.

(Jdg 6:20 KJV)  And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.

(Jdg 6:21 KJV)  Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
