~Daily Inspirational ~ ~ABOUNDING IN HOPE~ JUNE 13, 2006

~ABOUNDING IN HOPE~

Scripture Reading: Romans 15:13

To appreciate what the Apostle Paul is saying in our text, it will help to get a grasp of the book of Romans as a unit. The theme of Romans is "The Righteousness of God in Christ." This Righteousness is: needed by sinful man (1:18-3:20); provided by God's grace (3:21-26); received by faith alone (3:27-4:25); experienced in the soul (5:1-8:30); all-inclusive and permanent (8:31-39); rejected by the nation Israel (9-11); lived out in the believer's life (12:1-15:7); and proclaimed by the Body of Christ (15:8-16:27). Our verse (Romans 15:13) comes after the nation of Israel has rejected "The Righteousness of God in Christ."

The context of chapter 15:7 and following shows that even in God's dealing with Israel, it was God's desire "...that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy..." (15:9). The Gentiles were to rejoice "with His people" (15:10) However, with Israel rejecting Christ, the channel of blessing became "clogged up." The Gentile nations stood in the position of "having no hope and without God in the world" (Ephesians 2:12). I heard a man once say: ''The saddest word in our vocabulary is 'hopeless'" He also said these words "there is no hope for those who enter here" ought to be hung over the gates of Hell.

In our context something tremendous is happening and is being proclaimed to the Gentiles through the Apostle Paul: "Now may the God of hope fill you with all Joy and peace in believing, that you may abound In hope - by the power of the Holy Spirit!" This message is going forth according to the message and the grace of God given to Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles (15:15,16). We now have our own hope in Christ! We are to rejoice in it, abound in it, and proclaim it by the power of the Holy Spirit!

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~GOOD HOPE THROUGH GRACE~ JUNE 12, 2006

~GOOD HOPE THROUGH GRACE~

Scripture Reading: n Thessalonians 2:16

Are you sorry that you came to know the GRACE OF GOD? The word grace usually means unmerited favor or showing kindness. Everybody wants favor and kindness. It carries the idea of producing joy in both the giver and receiver.

Someone may complain that since the grace of God has come to them, they don't have as much fun as they had before they became a Christian. This is of course, extreme foolishness. God does not take away from the Christian any GOOD thing! "God... giveth us richly ALL THINGS to enjoy." If what we were doing before we were saved was sin, then it could not be fun in an absolute sense. Sin might have seemed fun because of a certain pleasure in it, but the consequences bring trouble and grief. Judgment (in one way or another) always follows sin, and God is always the determiner of what sin is.

Instead of complaining that you don't have as much "fun" as you previously had, you should consider that "...your Father...maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Also we should dwell on what we are and what we will be in the Lord Jesus. Our POSITION IN CHRIST will take away complaints and grumbling to be replaced with joy and singing. After all things considered, we not only have Heaven and glorification coming in the future, but we have forgiveness, justification, fellowship with God, and numberless blessings right now! Although we are not called to fun, there is plenty of fun and true joy just living for the Lord Jesus!! "...our Lord Jesus...hath given us everlasting consolation and GOOD HOPE THROUGH GRACE..." Do you have this favor and kindness?

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE ONE HOPE~ JUNE 14, 2006

~THE ONE HOPE~

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:4

The Church which is the Body of Christ is a distinct and separate entity. It is an entirely new creation - not under the law, not under a doctrine of works not an outgrowth of any other body or assembly, not composed of members who have qualified themselves by accomplishment of stipulated requirements. The position of the Body member is altogether unique in character and relationship. Only by revelation of Jesus Christ to and through the apostle Paul can we know God's will and purpose for the Body of Christ. As members we are identified with Him as the Head of the Body of which we (believers) are members.

Because of the exclusive nature of our place in God's plan, we are advised by our apostle of our doctrinal distinctions. Among these is our one hope. "There is ONE BODY, and ONE SPIRIT, even as you are called in ONE HOPE of your calling." It is specifically the hope of the Body of Christ. Paul refers to the event as "the redemption of the purchased possession" (Ephesians 1:14) The apostle defines our very special identification: "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? FOR YE ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE..." (I Corinthians 6:19, 20a). Thus we are His 'purchased possession' "...which He hath purchased with His own blood" (Acts 20:28b ).

That great occasion of 'the redemption of the purchased possession' is a positive assurance peculiar to us as the Body of Christ. "For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God...and so shall we ever be with the Lord" (I Thessalonians 16, 17).

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~A BETTER HOPE~ JUNE 15, 2006

~A BETTER HOPE~

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 7:19

Better is a comparative word and can hardly be used without comparing or contrasting that which is inferior. Such is the case in this record to the Hebrews. It constantly uses the word better in contrast. Thirteen of the nineteen uses of this word in the New Testament are in this sense.

To really see the contrasts used and find what is better, the context is essential. Though our assigned text is v. 19, the thought of the entire chapter is in view, and at least v. 18 must be considered to get the thought here. The NKJV and RSV both properly leave out the word did that is italicized in KJV. They also accurately translate using the words on the one hand to begin v.18, and on the other hand in v.19b to demonstrate the contrast between the law and this better hope. For not only was the law unable to produce such a high priest after the order of Melchizedek, (v.16), it also failed to bring the hope of making men nigh to God, (v.19). Being nigh is near, and speaks of a relationship with God. This can only come through righteousness. Though the law itself was righteous, it couldn't make men righteous as it brought condemnation to man because of his sinfulness. It couldn't perfect because it was weak in depending on the flesh, (Rom. 8:3).

So through contrast, the author pleads with the Hebrews through Hebrew illustrations to recognize the Lord Jesus Christ as the source of the better hope He alone as the High Priest of the superior order brought the prospect of salvation through the offering of Himself, (v. 27). He alone provided access to God as Intercessor at God's right hand, (v. 25,26; 8:1). He alone is
the Better and Only Hope.

~Daily Inspirational ~ CREATION AND REDEMPTION JUNE 16, 2006

CREATION AND REDEMPTION
by C. R. Stam

In Romans 1:18 the Apostle Paul declares that ungodly men are “without excuse” because they are surrounded by the evidence of the Creator’s “eternal power and Godhead.”

Our Authorized Version calls the creation, in this passage, “the things that are made,” but in the Greek it is called literally, “the poyeema,” from which we get our word poem.

The Apostle refers, of course, to the harmony of God’s creation. And is it not indeed amazing how billions of heavenly bodies can continually revolve in the vastness of space and never collide! And are not the flowers, the seasons, and the sunsets all part of a harmonious creation, which God alone could have conceived and set to music?

But very interestingly, this word poyeema is used just once more in Scripture. We find it in Ephesians 2:10, where it is translated “workmanship.” Let’s consider this passage in its context:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

“Not of works, lest any man should boast.

“For we are His workmanship [Greek, poyeema], created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Eph.2:8-10).

The Epistle to the Romans speaks of the poem of creation, the Epistle to the Ephesians, of the poem of redemption, and the latter is the more wonderful. An old hymn says: “Twas great to speak a world from naught; ‘tis greater to redeem.”

In this poem of redemption which God has composed, we believers too often want to change some word or phrase. We would like this or that in our circumstances to be different. Ah, but this would destroy the meter and the meaning of God’s new creation.

Thank God, when we who trust Christ some day go to be with Him, we will see the beauty and glory of the poem of redemption. Then we will rejoice that He did indeed “work all things together for good” for us.

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST~ JUNE 17, 2006

~THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST~

Scripture Reading: John I: I

The world engages in the most futile of efforts: the denial of Jesus Christ as deity, as divinely conceived, as the one Mediator, as the only hope of salvation of the lost. "He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not" (John I:10). What an indictment! "For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4: 12).

By Christ's own testimony, He was very God. "Verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58 ). And God the Father said to God the Son, "Thy throne, 0 GOD, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom... THOU, LORD, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands: they shall perish; but Thou remainest...... (Hebrews 1:8,10,11). Not only is He here addressed as God, but two characteristics attributable only to God are mentioned: righteousness and eternal existence.

It was God Himself, in the Person of Christ, who suffered in our stead on Calvary's cross; He bore our guilt and presented us righteous before God the Father, Who sees us only through Christ. And now we who have been purchased by His blood are "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of [notice!] THE GREAT GOD AND OUR SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST; Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity..." (Titus 2:13,14). Jesus Christ is 'God and our Saviour'! "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last" (Revelation 22:13).

Pastor Robert Hanna, California

~Daily Inspirational ~ WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS JUNE 18, 2006

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS
by C. R. Stam

Strange, is it not, that when men are successful, they generally credit themselves liberally for their success but when things go wrong they begin to blame others - even God.

The writer does not have up-to-date information about two particular plots of ground in Moscow, but some years ago one of these was a beautiful garden, the other a patch of weeds. Above each there was a sign. Over the one: "This plot is cared for by the United Soviet Socialist Republic," over the other: "This plot is cared for by God"!

Evidently the atheistic Soviets who hatched this "bright idea" did not stop to think that only God could produce the beautiful flowers in the USSR plot. All their watering and cultivating would have been in vain except for the God they deny.

As to the other plot, they probably did not even know that even in Eden God put the garden in man’s charge "to dress it and to keep it" (Gen. 2:15), and later, when man sinned, God said to Adam, "Cursed is the ground for thy sake" (Gen. 3:17). This is why the Soviets must employ a gardener to control the weeds in even their garden! How wrong and foolish, then, for man ever to blame God for anything that goes wrong for him or causes him trouble!

Actually, when I have been asked: "If God is a God of love, why does He allow all this trouble and misery, and all this wickedness?" I have replied: "That’s easy. When God sent His Son into this world offering peace and righteousness and prosperity they cried: 'Away with Him' and nailed Him to a cross. If the Bible is true, and in this case it has surely proved to be true, how can this world expect peace while they still reject the Prince of Peace?"

~Daily Inspirational ~ A GOOD SOLDIER OF JESUS CHRIST JUNE 19, 2006

A GOOD SOLDIER OF JESUS CHRIST
by C. R. Stam

"Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier" (II Tim. 2:3,4).

In the soldier it is courage and self-discipline that are important. It has been well said that the measure of a good soldier is not how much he can "give," but how much he can "take," how much he can endure - how much it takes to make him give up.

It is a sad fact that many of God's people simply do not want to be soldiers They are sure that the battle for the truth can be won by "love." They decline to obey God's specific order to "fight the good fight of the faith" (I Tim.6:12). Some even find fault with those who do stand as soldiers for Christ and wield the Sword of the Spirit in defense of the truth.

But if God does not wish us to be soldiers in the fight of the faith, why did He command us to be such in the first place, and why, in Ephesians 6:10-20, does He urge us to "be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might," instructing us to "Put on the whole armour of God," naming each piece separately, so that not one might be missing? Why does He bid us to "take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God"?

Does He mean that we should put our sword in the scabbard and go on dress parade, to show what fine soldiers we are? No! We are to wield the Sword of the Spirit, "standing against the wiles of the devil", and to keep standing until, "having done all," we are still found "standing."

Four times in this passage the word "stand" is used, and God has provided a complete armour so that we may be enabled to stand.

But there is more. A "good soldier," says the Apostle, is careful not to "entangle himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier" (Verse 4).

What a lesson! Should not we, who have been bought with the precious blood of Christ, be "good soldiers" for His sake, single-minded, and disentangled from the affairs of this life?

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT~ JUNE 22, 2006

~THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT~

Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 6:19, 20

No aspect of the believer's position can be more vital than proper knowledge of his relationship to the Holy Spirit of God and the functions of the Holy Spirit in this present age of the dispensation of grace. It is popular among many professed Christians today to embrace convictions based upon experiences recorded in the early portion of the Book of Acts. The miraculous events related to the pentecostal church of that time belong to Israel only - not to the Church which is Christ's Body.

We who have been saved by grace through faith under this present dispensation of the grace of God, do not await a miraculous descending of the Holy Ghost. We do not "pray down the Spirit." or attempt to invite visions and signs and wonders. Upon believing to salvation, "By one Spirit are we all baptized into one body... and have been all made to drink into one Spirit" (I Corinthians 12:13). "Therefore we are buried with [Christ] by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4).

The Holy Spirit indwells us, controlling our lives as we yield ourselves to His will. "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?" The Holy Spirit is our teacher of divine truth, "Not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth..." (I Corinthians 2:13.) And the Holy Spirit is our intercessor, "For we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us" (Romans 8:26).

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY~ JUNE 23, 2006

~THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY~

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:19

Any attempt of the finite intellect to comprehend the mystery of the triune Person of God would be pure folly. God is Father, Son and Holy Ghost. All three share the same characteristics: omnipotence,  omnipresence and omniscience. Though the three operate separately at various times, there is always present the aspect of one person in triune concert, with never any cross-purpose or conflicting action. Our apostle's benediction in his second letter to the Corinthians beautifully illustrates the perfect coordination of the divine identities. "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13: 14). In promising to send the Holy Spirit after His departure, the Lord said to His disciples, "The Comforter, which is THE HOLY GHOST, whom THE FATHER will send in MY [the son's) name, He shall teach you all things..." (John 14:26).

"For through HIM [Christ) we both (Jew & Gentile) have access by one SPIRIT unto the FATHER" (Ephesians 2:18 ). "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the LORD [the Son), and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him; GOD also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the HOLY GHOST, according to His own will?" (Hebrews 2:3, 4).

All three members of the Godhead are identified as the source of life: FATHER (Ephesians 2:5); SON (John 5:21); HOLY GHOST (Romans 8:10), and as indwelling the believer: (2 Corinthians 6:16); (Colossians 1:27); (I Corinthians 6:19).

~Daily Inspirational ~ WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? JUNE 24, 2006

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?
by Russel S. Miller

Thank you for that "good" question.

God’s plan of salvation today is not difficult to understand. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). There is no one exempt from sin. We are ALL guilty of breaking the Laws of God. We are sinners by nature and by choice, because we also choose to sin.

"The wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23). There is a penalty for sin. You go to work every day and at the end of the week you receive your wages. "The wages of sin is death..."

"...But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Eternal life is a gift. You cannot buy it, or earn it, or deserve it. It can only be received as a free gift because Christ paid the penalty of sin with His own blood. The love of God, therefore, has provided a way back to God in the person of Jesus Christ our Lord.

"...CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS...was buried, and rose again the third day..." (I Corinthians 15:3,4).

He died for our sins because there is no other way in which man could be redeemed.

He was buried that our old Adamic nature "might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin" (Romans 6:6).

He arose from the dead to prove that our debt of sin, and its penalty, has been FULLY paid (Romans 4:25).

"Therefore being justified BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1).

Does it get any better than this? Yes, indeed it does, for we read in Ephesians 2:7:

"THAT IN THE AGES TO COME HE MIGHT SHEW THE EXCEEDING RICHES OF HIS GRACE IN HIS KINDNESS TOWARD US THROUGH CHRIST JESUS".

God is very patient, kind, and loving, and longsuffering, but He will not be mocked of men. Consequently there is a "Hell" and "the Lake of Fire" awaiting all who reject this gift of salvation in the person of His Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This is clearly taught in Revelation 20:11-15.

When the Philippian jailor asked, "What must I do to be saved?", the Apostle Paul answered: "BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED.." (Acts 16:30,31).

This is the one really important issue of life, and there is no time like the present, to make that decision to trust Jesus Christ as your own personal Saviour and Lord.

If you cannot say, "I know I am saved and I'm going to Heaven", then I exhort you to trust Christ as your Saviour, right now, and God will bless you with all the bounty of Heaven, and more.

"BUT GOD COMMENDETH HIS LOVE TOWARD US, IN THAT, WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US" (Romans 5:8 ).

Daily Inspirational ~ THE WORKS OF THE FLESH vs.THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT 6/25

THE WORKS OF THE FLESH vs. THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
by Russel S. Miller

Adultery heads the list of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-21, with fornication and uncleanness following second and third in succession. There is a world of sinners out there, unrestrained with unbridled lusts, to which the Lord sends His ambassadors with "the message of reconciliation" (II Cor.5:14-21).

"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like..."

It was adultery that ruined King David, for when it came time for the king to go to war, he was on his rooftop:

"And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon" (IISam.11:2).

Did the Lord have this in mind when He said: "Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart" (Matt.5:28 )? It is truly "from within, out of the heart of man, [that] proceed evil thoughts"; and "adulteries" are at the top of this list in Mark 7:21-23 also.

Again, in Romans Six, the Apostle Paul speaks of the works of the flesh as unfruitful and leading to death: "What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death" (Rom.6:21). In Colossians, we read that these works of the flesh originate from within, and pointing to the Christ of Calvary’s cross, Paul says: "And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, YET NOW HATH HE RECONCILED IN THE BODY OF HIS FLESH THROUGH DEATH, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight" (Col.1:21,22).

Consequently, there is real "joy and peace in believing" (Rom.15:13) as God’s grace saves and transforms lives so that Christ may be seen, and not the works of the flesh.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance; against such there is no law" (Gal. 5:22,23).

It is only right that there are laws against the works of the flesh, but how could there be laws against the fruit of the Spirit? A striking contrast indeed!

~Daily Inspirational ~ FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE JUNE 26, 2006

FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE
by C. R. Stam

"And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love" (I Cor. 13:13).

St. Paul had been discussing, in I Cor. 13, some of the miraculous signs that were to vanish away as God’s revelation became complete. But faith, hope and love, he declared, would abide as a triune evidence of true Christianity.

These three are all we need in the present "dispensation of the grace of God" Any church where faith, hope and love are found in abundant measure is a "full" church. It may have but a few members, but what greater blessing could it wish for than faith, hope and love in its fellowship?

Faith, hope and love are a trinity often referred to in St. Paul’s epistles. Each is of basic importance in its way, and none can exist without the other two.

Faith is of primary importance. "Without faith it is impossible to please [God]" (Heb 11:6), and how can there be hope and love without faith?

Hope holds the central place among the three. Hope in the Bible is more than a wish; it is the opposite of despair, an eager anticipation of blessings to come. Hope is the Christian’s experience, his living with eternity’s glory in view.

Love is the crowning virtue of the three; it is the fruit of faith and hope, and is greatest in the sense that it is "the bond of perfectness." Moreover, love is eternal. Some day, for every true believer, "faith will vanish into sight; hope be emptied in delight" and love will reign supreme.

May God help us, in our fellowship with each other, to evidence a full measure of faith, hope and love.

~Daily Inspirational ~ GOD, WHO CANNOT LIE, PROMISED JUNE 27, 2006

GOD, WHO CANNOT LIE, PROMISED
by C. R. Stam

"In hope of eternal life, which GOD, WHO CANNOT LIE, PROMISED..." (Tit. 1:2)

In the Mediterranean Sea there lies an island which in Paul’s day had a very bad reputation. It’s name is Crete. To Titus, a pastor sent to evangelize the inhabitants, the Apostle Paul wrote: "One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said. The Cretians are always liars..." (Tit. 1:12), and he added: "This witness is true" (Ver. 13). Paul knew this to be a fact, for he had labored among them. Indeed, even secular history bears witness to this trait of the Cretians, for we are told that in ancient times to call a man a Cretian was to call him a liar.

How wonderful that St. Paul had succeeded in establishing a few small Christian assemblies on this island and that Titus was now laboring there as his successor! And how reassuring that to Titus and these few believers, surrounded on every hand by people who could not be trusted, Paul could write about "eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised"!

"God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken and shall He not make it good?" (Num. 23:19).

Thank God, millions have trusted His Word, especially about salvation through the all-sufficient and finished work of redemption wrought by Christ at Calvary, and they have found it to be blessedly true.

In dozens of passages of Scripture God has promised eternal life to those who trust in Christ and His payment for sin. "Christ died for our sins" (I Cor 15:3). "[He] was delivered for our offences and was raised again for our justification" (Rom. 4:25). "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life" (John 3:36). "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). Take Him at His Word; His promise is good. "GOD, WHO CANNOT LIE, PROMISED."

~Daily Inspirational ~ THE DOCTRINE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS JUNE 28, 2006

~THE DOCTRINE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS~

Scripture Reading: Romans 5:21b

"....We have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one...But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested...even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe ...That no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, Who of God is made unto us... righteousness" (Romans 3:9b,10, 21,22; I Corinthians l:29,30a). True righteousness is none other than Christ Himself. Paul writes that "For [Christ] I have suffered the loss of all things...that I may win Christ, and be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith" (Philippians 3:8b, 9).

Those who strive under the law today, attempting to win favor with God, are blinded to the truth, just as was Israel, of whom Paul wrote in his Roman epistle: "They being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. FOR CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS TO EVERY ONE THAT BELIEVETH" (Romans 10:3, 4). To the erring and misguided Galatians, he wrote, "I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ has died in vain" (Galatians 2:21).

Righteousness cannot be earned; it must be claimed by faith. "Even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

Pastor Robert Hanna, Calif.
