~AN ENLARGED HEART~
2 CORINTHIANS 6:11
"O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you,
our heart is enlarged."
The believer is admonished in the Scriptures over and over to be patient, longsuffering and loving. We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), walk in love (Ephesians 5:2), love one another (Romans 13:8 ), and love our neighbors (Matthew 5:44). This love is a part of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and the result of an enlarged heart (2 Corinthians 6:11-13).
Enlarged as used in 2 Corinthians 6 has the idea of to make broad, to widen or to extend. A part of the gift of wisdom that God gave Solomon was largeness of heart in order that he might have compassion on the people over which he ruled (See 1 Kings 4:29). Paul's prayer for the Ephesians was, "That Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth and height; and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:17-19). It is so easy to simply rest in our salvation and become cold and indifferent to those around us. The supreme example of love from an enlarged heart was our Lord Jesus Christ. He showed His love for us while we were yet enemies and, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13)
As we yield to the indwelling Spirit, God will enlarge our hearts so that we can be patient, longsuffering and loving as we ought; "because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is give unto us" (Romans 5:5). Our prayer and goal should ever be that "the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men" ( 1 Thessalonians 3:12).

Daily Inspirational ~MORE THAN CONQUERORS~ MAY 29, 2006
~MORE THAN CONQUERORS~
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:36, 37
"...We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us." It is not possible for the world - the unregenerate souls - to understand this powerful phrase from the Word of God. More than conquerors! How can this be? A battle is either won or lost. The result of the conflict is either victory or defect Such is the logical analysis of a contest between warring factions.
But logic cannot divine the operation of God. Our victory is won, not by our ability to overpower enemy forces, but through Him that loved us. Not that we understand such love - not that we know the depth of God's plan and its operation. We simply accept by faith that which He reveals to us by His Word. We ponder the wonder of it all and are totally awed by the magnificence of the gift of His grace. The old, familiar chorus comes to mind: "Why did He love me so? Why did He love me so? Why did my Savior to Calvary go - Why did He love me so!"
The saint of God cannot lose! Even in defeat, we are victorious. When our strength fails us, His strength energizes. In his book, "Romans: Truth in Paradox", Harry Bultema writes that our being more than conquerors means: "To suffer no loss, To enjoy all the spoils, To glorify the great Captain, To receive a glorious reward of grace and celestial decorations."
The believer's complete identification with the Lord Jesus Christ, though an absolute reality, is far beyond our human comprehension. But we are assured by our apostle, "In Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him" (Colossians 2:10). "Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 15:57).

Daily Inspirational ~A GOOD SOLDIER~ MAY 30, 2006
~A GOOD SOLDIER~
Scripture Reading: II Timothy 2:3, 4
The true Christian has three enemies: "the course of this world", "the prince of the power of the air", and "the lusts of our flesh" (Ephesians 2:2,3). None of these will ever give in to the new life or the new divine nature that the Christian has in Christ Jesus. We are in a war with these enemies as long as we are in these physical bodies. Many dear believers don't even know there is a battle going on (Galatians 5:17). What a shame! If there are no battles and no war, what do we need soldiers for?
Saul of Tarsus went from being" the persecutor of the "Church of God", to being the persecuted Apostle Paul. The switch came about because of his salvation, and because of the "program of God's Grace" committed to him. The switch from the persecution of the Jerusalem Church and the Twelve Apostles, to the Apostle Paul and the Body of Christ, proves God's program of salvation was being changed. Members of the Body of Christ are in a warfare with the world, the flesh, and the devil. That is why Paul wrote to Timothy to "endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ" (II Timothy 2:3). Satan apposes the Gospel of Grace, but he doesn't have much of a problem with you, if you are already being conformed to this world system (Romans 12:2), and being defeated by your fleshly desires (Gal. 5:19-21). In fact, you are probably a good advertisement for Satan's cause. God's message to Timothy is also His message to you who are saved today. "Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus!" "Be a good soldier of Jesus Christ!" "Don't be entangled with the affairs of this life!" Why? Because, the furtherance of the Gospel of Grace is at stake involving eternal souls being saved, and Christians being established in the Truth. By God's grace, may you not be found AWOL, or MIA!

STANDING FAST IN THE FAITH

~Daily Inspirational ~ STANDING FAST IN THE FAITH MAY 31, 2006
STANDING FAST IN THE FAITH
Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 16:13
Few things are as important in the Christian life as taking a stand. In a world where being popular seems to be all important, it is rare indeed to find an individual who consistently obeys Paul's admonition, "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong" (I Corinthians 16:13). Standing fast in the faith involves maturity. This is what Paul means by the expression, "quit ye (literally, 'conduct yourselves') like men."
Taking a stand often involves both the positive and the negative. As believers in the Gospel of the Grace of God committed to the Apostle Paul (Acts 20:24), we must heed Paul's God-given instruction to Timothy, "Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God" (II Tim. 1:8 ). This is a positive step; standing for the truth of the gospel.
But there is also a need to stand against error and compromise. Paul instructed Titus concerning the "many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers...whose mouths must be stopped," to "rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth" (see Titus 1:10-14).
The Gospel of Grace is under attack today both overtly and through neglect. It is up to us who know and love this glorious message to both proclaim it boldly and defend it from those who would compromise its contents. If we do not do so, who will?

PEACE WITH GOD, ACCESS TO GOD AND THE HOPE OF GLORY

~Daily Inspirational ~ PEACE WITH GOD, ACCESS TO GOD AND THE HOPE OF GLORY 6/1
PEACE WITH GOD, ACCESS TO GOD AND THE HOPE OF GLORY
by Cornelius R. Stam
According to Rom. 4:25, Christ was delivered to death for our sins and then raised from the dead because He had fully settled our debt. The results of this mighty work of redemption are marvelous indeed to ponder over.
First, it means for every believer in Christ, that "being justified by faith we have peace with God" (Rom. 5:1). If Christ has paid for our sins and the barrier between God and us has been removed, why should we not enjoy peace with God? Why should we not rise in the morning, go about our work during the day and retire at night with complete confidence that all is well; that we are at peace with God and that He loves us as His very own?
But more: Verse 2 goes on to say that by Christ we also have "access by faith into this grace wherein we stand." If the barrier of sin has been removed and we are at peace with God, what is there to keep us out of His presence, especially when He Himself bids us to "come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need"? (Heb.4:16). How wonderful to have a standing before God in grace! to be at peace with Him and to enjoy free access into His presence by faith!
But there is still more. Not only does the believer in Christ enjoy peace with God and access to God, but, as this same verse says: "We rejoice in hope of the glory of God." "Hope" in the Bible is, of course, more than a wish. It is an eager anticipation of wonderful things to come. Heb. 6:19 says: "Which hope we have as an anchor to the soul, both sure and stedfast." Man has always been afraid of the glory of God. When the glory of the Lord shone round about the Judaean shepherds "they were sore afraid." This was because "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). But the simplest believer in Christ may rejoice in the anticipation of sharing God’s glory some day.

~THE TRIUMPH OF THE FAITH~

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE TRIUMPH OF THE FAITH~ JUNE 2, 2006
~THE TRIUMPH OF THE FAITH~
Scripture Reading: I John 5:4
"Whatsoever is born of God, overcometh the world; even our faith." Our faith is born of God and therefore enables us to overcome this world system. Notice the threat is not from the devil, formidable as he is; the threat is not from Hell, or wherever Satan has his stronghold and supply base, BUT, the most dire threat to our faith today is this world system.... Society in general!
Why does God permit Satan to carry on and work his wiles as he does? One reason is shown in the story of Job. If there were no real challenge to our faith, it would wither and die! When we are challenged, we are driven to the Word, and our faith is strengthened and grows. Why did God allow Job to be tested as He did? So that we in the 2000's could read the moving story of Job's reaction to terrible tragedy, and learn that Satan had a big hand in Job's nightmare. Did you know that Job is probably the first book to be written, time-wise, in the canon of Scripture? Isn't that just like our great Heavenly Father? If we see all sin as sad and tragic realities in the light of what the story of Job tells us, we will see all of life in proper focus. God is not weak nor is He uncaring. God has a plan and He is right on schedule, just as He outlines it in the Bible. Job did not know about the Grace of God in Christ as revealed at Calvary, yet his faith in God saw him through the harsh circumstances he had to face, with no Bible! Shame on us for even being down in the mouth when the bottom falls out! We have THE BOOK with the details right down to the wire! HAVE FAITH!

~A HEAVENLY HOPE~

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~A HEAVENLY HOPE~ JUNE 3, 2006
~A HEAVENLY HOPE~
Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:5
If you are trusting the Lord Jesus with His death and resurrection, for your salvation, you have a wonderful future ahead of you. Your future will be significantly different from Israel's future. The Hope of Israel involved an eternal king - the Messiah - ruling the world in the eternal kingdom. The resurrection of the dead would provide the realization of Israel's hope. See Isaiah 26:19 and Daniel 12:2, also Luke 1:32-33, 67-79.
Our Hope is somewhat different. We are already seated with Christ in the heavenlies. Our future will give us the realization of what we already have spiritually. We will have a resurrection body, joint ownership of all things, fellowship with our Lord eternally without interruption, rewards, deliverance from Satan, sin, and frustration.
What a wonderful future! The certain expectation of these things in the believer's life is the result of Christ IN us. If the Lord Jesus is in us, and we have been placed in Him by the Holy Spirit baptizing us into His Body, we can be certain that glory will be ours. "God...hath called you unto His kingdom and glory...to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." In Romans 8:18, we read about the "glory which shall be revealed in us."
Is it surprising that the Apostle Paul thanks God for what we have? "We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ..for the hope which is laid up for you in Heaven..." (Colossians 1 :3, 5). Let's study to show ourselves approved of God concerning the content and the difference of our hope.

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE HOPE OF THE GOSPEL~ JUNE 4, 2006
~THE HOPE OF THE GOSPEL~
Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:23
There is no disappointment in God's "good news" (gospel) to mankind in any age. Only sure hope - stedfast assurance that God, Who cannot lie, will do all He has promised.
Notice that Paul, in our text verse, is one of a continuing line of ministers God has had stretching from Noah's day to ours Mankind is without excuse, for God has always had ministers of righteousness proclaiming His message to all generations Paul's special revelation ministry is brought out in Col. 1:25 26.
Hope in the world system falls flat. One successful cosmetics manufacturer said the secret of his success was that he always gave women hope. But each of us knows our outward house is fading with each passing day.
Scriptural hope goes beyond our "three-score-and-ten" years and sees by faith, in the written Word of God, the eternal hope of the gospel centered in the Lord Jesus Christ. The hope of Israel (Acts 28:20) and the hope of the Body of Christ are both centered in the Lord Jesus Christ: one (Israel) according to prophecy (Rom. 16:7) and one according to the mystery revealed from the risen and ascended Lord Jesus Christ to Paul (Rom. 16:25). It is interesting to see these truths in the same 16th chapter of Romans.
Many corporate retirement plans have been altered or failed, dashing the hopes of workers. But the "hope of the gospel" cannot fail for it is based on the written Word of God which never changes, regardless of modern-day translators' attempts to do so.
To be not moved away from this hope means to remain stedfast in your stand for the Word, rightly divided, (II Tim. 2:15). In Paul's writings alone we find the hope of the gospel (of the grace of God).

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE HOPE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS~ JUNE 5, 2006
~THE HOPE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS~
Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:5
In rightly dividing the Word of Truth, we must be ever watchful to delineate between justification by obedience to the law and justification by faith alone. In his Student's Commentary, George Williams says of the textual verse under consideration: "Paul reveals the hoped for glory, and faith builds on that hope. Righteousness is the foundation. Righteousness is not waited for - it is already possessed, - but faith waits for the hope connected with it."
The hope of the Body of Christ is the Lord Jesus Christ [Col. 1:27; I Timothy 1:1; Titus 2:13}, He is our hope, and we are hoping (expecting) His glorious appearing. The world thinks of hope as a wish or desire. Our hope is a fact, a possession. We have the hope of eternal life, signed, sealed and soon to be consummated. We have the hope of righteousness - His righteousness, imputed to us by His vicarious suffering. We have the hope of glory - Christ in us. Every aspect of our hope is irrevocable.
In Isaiah 64:6 we read, descriptive of ourselves, "We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags..." And in Romans 3:10, "There is none righteous, no, not one." This being true, Job's question recorded in Job 9:2 would certainly seem appropriate: "...How should man be just with God?" Righteousness cannot be earned, cannot be deserved by sinful man. "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Romans 4:5). This is the answer to Job's question! Our only righteousness is "The righteousness which is of God by faith" (Philippians 3:9).

~Daily Inspirational ~ ~THE HOPE OF GLORY~ JUNE 6, 2006
~THE HOPE OF GLORY~
Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:27
One of the key words in this dispensation is the word "grace." Paul uses this word some ninety times in his epistles. But did you realize there is another word he uses over ninety times? That's right, the word "glory." Grace and glory seem to go together. Perhaps this is why Paul called the grace message he preached, "the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust" (I Timothy 1:11).
In today's text we read, "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians l:27). Many people hope for glory, but unfortunately most go about attaining it in all the wrong ways. The talented athlete may receive glory for a time, but it will count for nothing in eternity. Unsaved religious people also hope for glory, but seek it by works, not by faith. When asked if they are going to heaven, they will often respond, "I hope so" This kind of hope is actually nothing more than wishful thinking.
A true Bible hope is more than this. The word for hope in Scripture actually means a firm confidence or conviction. According to Colossians 1:27, there is only one way to acquire this kind of hope, and that is through Christ. Our unique hope under the Mystery program is to some day be caught away to Heaven where we will live eternally with our Lord. Paul calls this .."that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13). Do you have this hope?

~THE HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE~
Scripture Reading: Titus 1:2
Promised before the World began!! No human being could conceive of such ideas. Only the God of eternity could utter such profound statements! The previous verse mentions the faith of God's elect.
Paul viewed today, with that day as a back-drop. If we viewed all trouble and hardship as a mere enhancer of the joys that await us over there, we would allow the joy of the Lord to be our strength, as He planned. Joy in the midst of heartache and disappointment, and even worse. In that day, we may see that God not only permitted hard times, but even arranged them for our benefit as a faith-stretcher.
Paul writes to Titus who was in a particularly difficult place of ministry. He prefaces his remarks and advice with these arresting and soul-grabbing expressions: according to the faith of God's elect, and in hope of eternal life which God promised before the world began. He goes on to remind Titus that in the fullness of time, God chose Paul, converted him from Judaism and revealed to him the Gospel of the Grace of God. In this Gospel alone do we have expressed so clearly, a know-so salvation. Eternally secure, as contrasted with the conditional element of the keeping of the law, as under the Kingdom program. How necessary that God gives us who live in this evil and debauched society, this bright hope for daily fare: God promised eternal life before He made the world. So sure is our hope of eternal life. Press on! Buy up the time! Our efforts are not in vain in the Lord!

~THAT BLESSED HOPE~
Scripture Reading: Titus 2:13
Hope is what keeps mankind going. Were it not for the hope of a better tomorrow, or at least next week - or maybe next month, or perhaps next year, we would give up and be ready to die. Many different people have many different hopes but that blessed hope spoken of here, is the one hope that keeps every true believer buying up the time; being not weary in well doing; accepting the persecution that goes with those who live Godly in Christ Jesus. This one hope above all other hopes, keeps us rejoicing at the thought of being in His presence, and sharing in His Glory!
Paul lets us know that faith, hope, and love, are the enduring spiritual marks in this age. Faith and Hope will be lost, when at the Rapture we no longer need faith or hope, for sight will behold Him for whom so long our hearts had sought. Then only love will be the life force.
We can get so busy making a living, and worrying over details that should be turned over to Him, that we can lose sight of that day when we actually stand in His presence! Fearful and wonderful thought! That meeting in the air with Him, will leave many saved as through fire. Many will be rewarded for faithfulness to His leading. He needed somebody like us right where we are, so that's why He put each of us where we are. When we learn faithfulness to responsibility there, He is well able to move us elsewhere. The more faithful we are, the brighter shines that blessed hope. To fail responsibility, may bring apprehension!

~THE HOPE OF SALVATION~

~THE HOPE OF SALVATION~
Scripture Reading: I Thessalonians 5:4-9
"You, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light, sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us....."
In the great conflict between light and darkness, it is clear that believers are involved. We, who are "of the day," are called upon to be awake and watching, sober and counting upon the armor of God. In this passage, only defensive weapons are mentioned, the breastplate and helmet.
For the Roman soldier of that day, the breastplate was front and center and the key item from which the rest of the armor anchored. In the spiritual analogy, this "breastplate of faith and love" would be the fidelity and love of God for us. What a sense of protection and security this gives! How much we need this in our conflict with the enemy.
Similarly, the helmet, protecting the vital organs of the head where the senses register every input and the control center for instructions to all body members, protects us with ..."the hope of salvation"! This "hope of salvation" is not to be confused with "I hope so" ...salvation. This hope is the certainty of our deliverance from the conflict, no matter what! Being thus protected and cared for, are we not free to pursue the battle with all holy abandon? Glory is ahead!

~REJOICING IN HOPE~

~REJOICING IN HOPE~
Scripture Reading: Romans 5 :2-5
"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By Whom we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." This hope that Paul was rejoicing in is ours because of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is only because of our "position in Christ" that we have this confident expectation. And it is ours, not because we have been justified by works (Romans 4:1-8 ), or by ordinances (4:9-12), or by law obedience (13-25), but by faith.
In Romans 8:30 the apostle writes, "Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified." Our future glory with Christ is certain because we are "in Christ" and Christ is in us. In Colossians 3:4 we read, "When Christ, Who is our life shall appear, then shall we also appear with Him in glory." Again we read in Paul's Philippian letter, "Christ shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself" (3:21).
Is it any wonder that we are "rejoicing in that hope?" For the child of God the future is always bright. As the days and years pass by that hope becomes even brighter; but let us not forget that God is able to meet our present needs as well: because the "Love of God is shed abroad in our hearts!" (Romans 5:3-5).

~THE HOPE OF CREATION~

~THE HOPE OF CREATION~
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:20, 21
Tornadoes - Hurricanes - Floods - Raging fires - Drought - Famine. What do these things have in common? They are symptoms of a creation "groaning and travailing in pain until now."
Is it always going to be this way on earth? Things appear to be on the downswing weatherwise, worldwide. Scientists bemoaning the loss of something called the ozone layer, etc.
Sin has brought a curse upon God's perfect original creation. Just as Adam's sin brought physical death upon all men (Rom. 5:12), so too, it brought creation under the curse. Genesis 3:17-18: ".....cursed is the ground for thy sake... thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to thee......"
Disobedience to God was calamitous in consequences to man and creation. Is it to be this way forever? What is the "hope of creation"?
The deliverance in verse 21 of Romans 9 comes after members of the Body of Christ have been taken into His presence. Verse 23 states it is the redemption of our bodies that will trigger future earthly condition changes. While we, members of the Body of Christ, are physically on this planet earth in our mortal bodies, creation too, must wait for its hope. First, the members of the Body are changed and then creation.
The phrase in verse 21 "bondage of corruption" is sobering. It states why the earth is in such turmoil. Sin has caused the "bondage or corruption" and we abhor such humanistic signs as: "Love your mother - earth." The ungodly do not know this is a present evil age and that fervent heat awaits this sinful earth as described in II Peter 3:10. As 2 Peter 3:13 states there will be: "........a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness."
