It is being confirmed right now (02:32 AM Central Standard Time 06-08-2006) on the news that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is dead. He was killed in an air strike some time in the last 48 hours. This is the coward who has slaughtered so many innocent people and beheaded innocent kidnap victims. The devil has plenty of room for him.

IRAQI Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has announced the killing of the al-Qaeda chief in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Al-Iraqiya state television reports.

"The prime minister announces the killing of Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of an organisation known as Al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia," the television reported.

The report said Zarqawi had been killed south of Baghdad.

The US military said it would have no comment until after the prime minister had spoken publicly.

Meanwhile Reuters reports that Zarqawi was killed in a US air attack in Baghdad, according to an American ABC news report.

"Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed in Baghdad during a bombing raid," ABC said.

A Pentagon press officer could not immediately confirm the report.

Iraq PM says Zarqawi killed: TV

By Mariam Karouny 6 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki announced on Thursday that al Qaeda leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had been killed, state television reported.

In Washington, ABC News reported that a U.S. air attack on a Baghdad house has killed Zarqawi. "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed in Baghdad during a bombing raid," ABC said.

A Pentagon press officer could not immediately confirm the report.

Jordanian-born Zarqawi is blamed by the United States for the beheading of foreign captives and suicide bombings that have maimed and killed hundreds in Iraq.

Maliki had earlier won the approval of his Shi'ite Alliance for nominees for the interior and defense posts and will present them to parliament on Thursday, Shi'ite sources said.

"Last night the Alliance gave Maliki authorization to present the candidates for interior and defense minister to parliament today," Alliance member Bahaa al-Araji told Reuters.

Maliki apparently broke the deadlock by offering to present two Shi'ite nominees for interior minister -- Jawaad al-Bolani and Farouk al-Araji -- in a bid to satisfy several leaders in his fractious Alliance.

Maliki's Sunni Arab nominee for defense minister -- Iraqi ground forces commander General Abdel Qader Jassim -- remains the same, said the sources.

Parliamentary approval for any candidates Maliki offers could help pull him out of a political crisis that has hurt efforts to impose a security crackdown against a Sunni Arab insurgency and sectarian violence raising fears of civil war.

Sunnis and Kurds have told Maliki they would back his candidate Araji for interior minister but three rival parties in his Alliance want Bolani, a former army colonel under Saddam Hussein.

The interior ministry came under intense scrutiny under the previous minister, accused by Sunni leaders of sanctioning death squads, a charge he denied.

The political stalemate that has prevented Maliki from filling the top security posts since he took power on May 20 has been set against some of the most gruesome violence Iraq has seen since a 2003 U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam.

Police found a total of 17 severed heads in Diyala province north of Baghdad over the last few days and gunmen dragged 24 people, mostly students, out of their cars in the same area and shot them dead on Sunday.

Guess where he went. Yup, now he will finally admit that Jesus Christ is Lord. There is no other God.

There is cheering in Baghdad as the news becomes known that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is INDEED AND OFFICIALLY DEAD! This coward is responsible for the cold-blooded murder of thousands of completely INNOCENT men, women, and children in Iraq. I can't imagine that he was an inspiration to so many other terrorists around the world. How could anyone be proud of killing completely innocent men, women, and children. There is NO honor in acts such as this, and that would be appropriate for a COWARD without any honor who would blow up children from the shadows and RUN. He was very good at running and hiding after his cowardly deeds, but he was never known for attacking someone who had the capability to defend themselves.

It will be a challenge to find a worm to replace him. The job qualifications will be to slither through the dirt like a worm and not have a brave bone in his body. He will have to also be void of conscience and be willing to kill the most helpless, preferably women and children who can't strike back. He will be missed only by the COWARDS involved in like activities. It's a good day for the innocent people of Iraq.

Brother, sister, I want to see how he answers Jesus. He will have to admit, that there is only one Jesus Christ.  John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.

Amen Brothers, I think this is the best news since the death of Saddam's 2 sons, and this can only be topped by the death of osama (been hiding)

that's him 'been hiding', but I got news for him, God knows where he's hiding, and what he's doing... I don't know what these fools think, but I do know what they will be thinking when they finally end up where they belong.

It's about time and even many of his "comrades" won't miss him. However, I doubt if it will make any difference in the Iraqi situation. Zarqawi has been marginalized for some time and has lost popularity due to his brutality. The violence will be continued without him.

If there is one thing we should have learned since 9/11 it is that these sort of people have to be eliminated quickly. Bin Laden is actually almost totally ineffective, isolated and without funds,  but by letting him live we have given him time to spread his philosophy to thousands who carry on what he was doing whether he lives or dies. The same is true of Zarqawi. The biggest mistake we have made since 9/11 is not making it a priority to eliminate these people and to do it quickly.

You are correct, Rhys. He will be replaced by another now. The question though that remains is will the person that replaces him be as effective as Zarqawi was in recruiting and forming more such people as themselves or will their strength be gone and dissipate even further.

This is something the coalition forces have taken into consideration and are currently going after the people that are most likely to take his place. The question here is how quickly can they do that.
