1  Theology / Debate / Re:Is contraception against the will of God on: April 22, 2005, 02:22:28 PM
[quote author=Silver

God expects us to act responsibly, and sometimes this means not having too many children in a marriage.  Contraceptives are a RESPONSIBLE way to avoid the burden of too many children.

There is nothing in the bible whatsoever about the use of contraceptives.

Many, many married couples use contraceptives (so no, most of the time its not for premarital sex, Saved_4ever).  What’s the reason to use them in a marriage?  Because sometimes it is outright stupid and foolish to have children, and God expects us to use our brains.

God bless,
Silver

I have no numbers in front of me but I would contest that the number of people using contraceptives (not that everyone would even admit to such) is MUCH higher among non married peoples.

To Corpus and Dreamweaver I'd have to say, those two similar if not the same, expositions seem a little off from the what the scripture is actually saying.  I have seen this same scripture used to say the er um "self pleasure" if you will is wrong and I can't see that at all from these verses.  I'm going to have to kindly disagree with the thought derived here.

At least though, it doesn't say that Ananias and Sapphira were killed for not giving money to the church hence proving that one should give EVERYTHING to the church.

Hey wait.... are you REALLY all riled up over tibby's comments?

Ppffft he's so easy to blow off it's not even fun.

He's fulla hot air.  I find it humorous he and I should seem to show up at the same time.  We had many verbal "altercation" (if you will).  I learned how to deal with him and he likes to get you riled up.  Him calling myself or anyone else a hate-monger is funny.  He can spew just as much "hate" as the next person.

Take him with a grain of salt.  Or more like that gnat that keeps bothering you.

Hey tibby   Tongue

Mwahahaha we still seemed to have scared off your typing skills though.

I don't know of the scriptures some will use but some would say that it subverts the point and plan of God to do so.

Some will argue that its only purpose is to have wrongful sex (very strange idea from those I've heard use it, if you're married).

My Aunt feels this way and fully trusts that if the Lord wants you to have a child you will get pregnant and like wise vice versa.

Since being saved she and her husband have stuck by this belief and have only had one child since in 11 years.  It's enough to make me believe it to be true.

Most of the time contraception is used as a means to have premarital sex and believe that it's existance promotes such behavior.   To this I can sort of agree but I personally have no scripture to give for it and have not bothered to study it.  I'm not married so at the moment any sexual activity would be sinful and blatantly against the Word.
5  Theology / Debate / Re:King James Version 100% pure on: April 21, 2005, 03:30:04 AM
I wonder if Christians who speak languages other than English have the same problem with different translations of the Bible.

I honestly would love to learn biblical Hebrew and Greek.  I think I would get some much more out of scripture more quickly.  Right now I have to look up each word separately in Strong's concordance and then look for the Hebrew or Greek.  It takes a long time but it really helps me understand the scriptures better.

I don't understand why anyone can get so obsessed with the King James version?  I don't use it because I can't understand the Shapespearean English language used in it.  I am truly thankful that someone decided that the Bible should be translated into all languages so that everyone can read and understand the Word of God in their own written language.

It is far from Shakespearean english.  Shakespear's style is older than the KJV and "harder" to understand.  It takes but a little time to get used to and is much more acurate than current English which is not as direct and definate.  Like anything worth learning take some time to understand God's word.  There's nothing more important to learn.

If you were unfamiliar with terms and understanding a vocation or such you would take time to learn that.  How much harder is it to take time to understand and learn old English?

EXACTLY so really if Tery Schivio was to continue living the Lord would preserve her.  However he took away the very ability to even be able to swallow.  I don't see how we can say he was wanting her to hang around.

If you can actually comprehend what I wrote you might be able to understand.  I have never called the bible stupid just peoples miss use of it.    Undecided

I just wanted to make sure to come in and thank all of you for your prayers.

The Lord has finally given me a new job with many prospects.  however the most important aspect of this new job is that it enables me to be able to participate in my church much more again as well as have my son in Church at least every other Sunday.

I am most grateful for the blessings God has bestowed me regardless of how much I do not deserve them.

God bless and again thank you for your prayers.

11  Theology / General Theology / Re:how do we know that the Bible is true on: April 19, 2005, 02:13:00 AM
Truly, in the end the only thing that makes the bible "true" is faith.  This will sound silly to those without it and a good reason "not to believe".

The fact of the matter is unless you are a born again, washed in the blood believer, the bible will not mean much to you.  Unless the Lord opens your heart up to accept the truths contained there in, you will not believe.

I can tell you I used to war against it.  It wasn't until I had the gal to read the word in an attempt to refute it that the Lord brought conviction upon my heart.  This testimony alone has baffled my unbelieving friends and alas they still don't get it.  They all still know that there is something "different" about me though.

12  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Persecution in the U.S. on: April 19, 2005, 02:05:05 AM
And so as good Christians we continue to pray for our country, it's leaders and the guidance of the Lord.  We continue spread the good news of Jesus Christ and His saving Grace regardless of all these things.

No one can or will subvert the Lord and His goals and unless we truly believe this in the deepest parts of our hearts we will give no real glory to the Lord.  If we follow the word and act accordingly we can do no more.

If this country turns completely over to the world then that is how it must be.  We must remember that BROAD is the way that leads to distruction.  It is quite obvious that we are truly a minority in the world.
13  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Terri Schiavo – Revisited on: April 19, 2005, 01:54:03 AM
Wow!!!  I have to just say wow at most of you and your assertions.  You'd do well with the propoganda machine.  Some of you are either completely ignorant or willfully ignoring some facts.

Since you all have no trouble drawing out the husband as evil because of his actions let's look at some things.

A) WHY, was Terry Schivio in this state in the first place?

Let's not be blind folks she didn't have some random stroke because of "bad genes" or "getting old".  She had a stroke because she was killing HERSLEF in the first place.  She had a major eating disorder which is waht CAUSED the stroke in the first place.  So we can see her vanity and obsession with her outward appearence brought on her condition.  (funny how we can change our minds so easily ie: if this person had killed someone else well with an almost joyful shout we claim they brought on the death penalty and the right to be killed "AN EYE FOR AN EYE!!" so says the bible AMEN!!! Roll Eyes  )

B)Was she a Christian?  No, so we already know that her beliefs and practices were not in order with the Lord.  Is this an evil crime?  Sort of depends who I ask I guess.  If you're gay it would seem a resounding they got/get what they deserve etc, if they're just unsaved  and law abiding well then that's different.....

C) The claims of murder are so unfounded and ridiculous it makes me want to cry.  You're all as bad vegans with your claims.

Was she "brain dead"  no.... but she was in a permanent vegitative state (as good as brain dead for all intent and reasonable purposes).  No respectable physician gives someone in her condition more than 3-5 years (at the most) to "recover" from that state.  IT'S BEEN FIFTEEN YEARS.  She was NOT EVER going to get any useful brain function back.  Did any of you even LOOK at the difference between a normal brain scan and her brain?Huh  Someone claimed "quality of life" .... Yes let's consider the quality of life she had or anyone like that.  It wasn't any quality what so ever.

Quote
Giving someone food and water is not considered to be extraordinary means in keeping someone alive. We all need food and water to live.

Could this be any more twisted?  Talk about learning how to taint this to propogandize them.  Giving food and water to someone is one thing because they EAT IT THEMSELVES!!!  Forcing a tube down someone's throught because they are INCAPABLE of swallowing on their own and using an IV to give them "water" is a far cry from the statement you made bep.  Quite frankly I am shocked and appalled to see a response like this from you but I'll leave it at that.

Then I hear stupid statements like this:
Quote
If it was Gods will for Terri to have died at the time of the stroke she would have. Medical science can not control the will of God.

Why is this stupid?  If we use the same logic (which personally I do) that means that likewise LACK of medical science will not stop the Lord's will to keep someone alive either will it?  It must be convenient to use which ever side of that argument suits your purpose.  Regardless of human interaction God's will shall be done in both life and death, forgivness or judgment.

This issue happens EVERY day and has ALWAYS been decided by the courts in the courts.  What on earth made someone make such a fuss about this particular case?  Who is it that made this such an issue?

I hear some claiming wrong doing on the part of the judicial system while lacking the knowledge that congress completely over stepped their bounds.  I guess as long as it fits our current motives allowing the government to decide judicial issues is ok until it affects something you don't like.  Congress had no right to make an injunction on this case and it should be settled in the courts like it ALWAYS is.  The government has no right to step into this issue.  You'd all be picketing the white house if they started nixing your court decisions on other matters.

This family wanted to keep Terry alive for themselves because THEY couldn't let go.  I can only imagine how hard it would be but regardless she was not responsive (after several unbiased tests family doesn't count...they reallly WANT to see a resonse when there is none) and never would be.  Their daughter had a stroke because of her own actions and the consequences were severe.

The Lord puts us through trials and tribulations to refine us and mold us into the works of art and glory that he see's fits.  I lost my father to massive coronary in large part do to his lack of care for himself.  Does heart desease run in my family?  Yes, my grandfather died at 50 of a heart attack, my uncle has had three of them and my father died just shy of his 46th birthday.  To the best of my knowledge NONE of them took care of themselves to avoid it either.  Should I blame God for taking my father? No Should I be angry that my father didn't take care of himself better?  No, not really maybe disapointed but to be angry would harbor bitterness which is against what the Lord tells us.

This was NOT murder and none of you knew or know anything more than the blatant media showed you.  If you had, I can't fathom how you could stick to such a ridiculous stance.  You fight for criminals to be put to death, but fight for a person who can't even chew or swallow food on thier own.  To defend the govn't while ignoring their blatant attempt to shift attention from Mr. Delay's poor actions, desictions and the obvious attempt to capitalize on the vocal religious (and I'm thinking that's exactly what you are right now) for political gain scares me quite frankly.

I seriously hope you all actually (as in really investigating ALL the information on this situtation) pray about this and truly consider it.

I am seeing a lot of John Kerryness about you all.  You're coming off as a bunch of flip floppers!

God bless,

Jason

If you are unfamiliar with the inards of computers that would be a god way to learn.  I could help you build your own computer if you like.  I would even build it for you or with you if you live close enough. (shipping on a fully built system gets pricey).

I will also help you buy what you actually need based on your computing.  Dell sells cheap computers and that's what they are.  As soon as you try to get anything worth while it gets pricey.  I have beat them out and made money on a good quality system and for a $1000 you can build quite a machine.  The only thing I can't compete on is a monitor but I think everyone should make a trip to the local store and see what they like.  It's the biggest component of your system you interact with and can be kept from computer to computer.

I personally prefer HP over Dell but I also like AMD over Intel, and HP is the only large OEM that sells AMD systems.  Compaq is owned by HP so they are the same thing.

You let me know and I will direct you the best I can.  Start by telling me what you would actually like to do with your computer.
