The Grapes of Wrath
by Pastor Paul M. Sadler

“And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs” (Rev. 14:20).

The great winepress of God is the area around the holy city of God. It extends from north northwest to south southeast of Jerusalem, from Mt. Megiddo, known as Armageddon (Rev. 16:16), to Bozrah (Isa. 63:1-4). Tactically, the Scriptures seem to suggest that the Antichrist will launch an attack simultaneously from both the north and the south. The center of the battlefield will be the narrow Kidron Valley, called the Valley of Jehoshaphat, located just east of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. According to the Spirit of God, the area of the battlefield is said to be “a thousand and six hundred furlongs,” a distance of exactly two hundred miles.

Christ will crush the Antichrist’s forces of evil with merely a spoken word and the brightness of His coming. When He tramples His enemies in His almighty power, their blood will stain His garments (Isa. 63:2-4; Rev. 19:13). The blood from this innumerable host of godless unbelievers and their horses will run high to the horses’ bridles, according to the Apostle John, writing in the Spirit. Many commentators shrink from taking a literal interpretation here, saying it is utterly preposterous. We feel, however, more comfortable taking God at His Word. On average, an adult male has about five quarts of blood. Millions upon ten millions of men would bleed a deep river of blood. Interestingly, the Spirit emphasizes that the winepress is “trodden without [outside] the city” of Jerusalem in direct connection with the blood rising to the horses’ bridle. In all likelihood, the blood will probably run the deepest in the valley of Jehoshaphat (Kidron Valley), which is a rocky, mountainous ravine that’s about 20 miles in length.

Responsibility: Only the believer in Christ can fully understand the seriousness of the coming wrath of God. Many of the unsaved are clueless, and Satan would like nothing better than to keep it that way. We must therefore bear in mind that, if an unbeliever refuses to receive God’s gracious offer of reconciliation and foolishly rejects Christ as his personal Savior, he must be warned about the bloodbath that lies ahead.

Dan Coats, Director of National Intelligence, told20 the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this week, “The release of information not only undermines the confidence in our allies, but our ability to maintain secure information we share with them, and they jeopardize sources and methods that are invaluable in finding out what’s going on and what threats are.”

The seriousness of the leaks became even more evident after the bombing of a concert venue in Manchester, England. Shortly afterward, the New York Times published an article containing leaked intelligence information about an ongoing investigation — and then slammed Trump for the leaks.

Consequently, the British announced that they would no longer cooperate with American intelligence officials on the investigation. Moreover, Prime Minister Teresa May even suggested that the special relationship between Great Britain at the United States was at risk. Trump was able to reassure our allies at the NATO summit in Brussels on Thursday. At least for now.

But the problem isn’t going away as long as his administration is infested with Obama-era vermin. These individuals are leaking information to the media with the sole intent of damaging the president and undermining his ability to govern. Now that’s collusion.

As for collusion with the Russians, numerous public officials have conceded that there’s no evidence. This includes former Obama CIA Director John Brennan and Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Feinstein is a member of the Gang of Eight, a select group of House and Senate intelligence committee members briefed on FBI and CIA investigations. “There are all kinds of rumors around,” she stated. “There are newspaper stories, but that’s not necessarily evidence.”

Upon reviewing information at the CIA and being asked whether she saw any evidence of collusion, Feinstein said, plainly, “Not at this time.” Again, this isn’t just coming from the unhinged likes of Rep. Maxine Waters, but a high-ranking Democrat senator with access to the latest intelligence information.

Not that we can necessarily trust the FBI21 to conduct an honest investigation…

Meanwhile, despite Brennan’s unrevealing congressional testimony earlier this week, prominent Democrats such as Rep. Adam Schiff, a ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee, responded as though Brennan had revealed some critical evidence.

Byron York writes22 in the Washington Examiner, “Brennan gave the committee old information — he frankly admitted it was old — that did not take into account what has been learned in recent months from other sources.”

What Brennan did say is that leaks are deadly. “What I have found appalling is the number of leaks that have taken place over the last several months,” he said last week. “The real damage to national security is the leaks. These individuals who still stay within the government and are leaking this stuff to the press need to be brought to task.”

As for York’s reporting, it’s a truthful outlier amid an anti-Trump media onslaught. For all the stories23 about Trump being a threat to national security, the real threat is the collusion between Obama-appointed informants and the likes of the Washington Post, New York Times and CNN.

OPINION IN BRIEF

David Limbaugh: “Demagoguery and propaganda are enemies of good governance, but nowhere is that more apparent than in the federal budget, on which Democrats are shameless and too many Republicans are feckless. Sages from American history presciently predicted that our republic would be in jeopardy if voters acquired the power to vote themselves money from the public trough. The U.S. Constitution did not contemplate that the federal government and federal politicians would be able to secure their elective offices through legislative transfers of wealth, but the sordid practice has been with us for decades, and we are paying the price. … Liberals have an easy job. All they need to do is promise benefits and apply dishonest marketing strategies to paint themselves as caring and their opponents as ogres. They don’t need to designate how those benefits will be funded, and they slam the so-called rich for not paying their fair share — an abominably false claim.”

Mid-Day Digest

May 26, 2017

IN TODAY’S EDITION

Trump tells NATO members standing right behind him to pull their weight.
Montanans might just have cheered a GOP candidate’s handling an activist reporter.
The real national security issue is all the leaking Obama loyalists in the White House.
Daily Features: Top Headlines, Cartoons, Columnists and Short Cuts.

THE FOUNDATION

“National defense is one of the cardinal duties of a statesman.” —John Adams (1815)

TOP RIGHT HOOKS

Trump’s Welcome Bluntness1

NATO has been a subject of some controversy for President Donald Trump. During last year’s Republican primary campaign, Trump alleged, “NATO is costing us a fortune” and is “obsolete” because other nations aren’t pulling their weight. At the time, it was jarring because conservative politicians don’t talk that way about our allies. Trump walked back the “obsolete” charge, but otherwise he’s stuck to his guns.

Just yesterday at NATO headquarters in Brussels, he called out several NATO member leaders as they literally stood behind him. “These grave security concerns are the same reason that I have been very, very direct with Secretary [Jens] Stoltenberg and members of the alliance in saying that NATO members must finally contribute their fair share and meet their financial obligations,” Trump said, “for 23 of the 28 member nations are still not paying what they should be paying and what they are supposed to be paying for their defense. This is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United States.”

“We should recognize that with these chronic underpayments and growing threats, even two percent of GDP is insufficient to close the gaps in modernizing readiness and the size of forces,” he continued. “We have to make up for the many years lost. Two percent is the bare minimum for confronting today’s very real and very vicious threats.”

Some critics pounced, citing this as evidence that Trump won’t follow through on America’s Article 5 obligations to come to Europe’s defense. But that’s just utter silliness that, frankly, serves Vladimir Putin’s agenda. At an event unveiling a memorial to 9/11 and NATO’s first and only invocation of Article 5, Trump praised NATO for responding “swiftly and decisively” after those attacks. He added, “We will never forsake the friends who stood by our side.” How do those remarks constitute any waffling on U.S. commitments?

Trump’s loose lips can indeed be a problem, and no doubt our allies would appreciate consistency. But his admonition to NATO members who don’t contribute fully could be the impetus for a needed course correction for the old alliance. Furthermore, it’s certainly part of the larger strategy of his first foreign trip — cleaning up Barack Obama’s mess and fighting terrorism2.

MSM Blames Trump for Victorious MT Republican’s Assault of Journalist3

Yesterday, Republican Greg Gianforte defeated Democrat Rob Quist in a special election to fill the Montana at-large House seat vacated by Ryan Zinke after he was tapped by Donald Trump to head the Department of the Interior. Gianforte’s win comes amid an eleventh-hour controversy over a physical altercation with a Guardian reporter who was pressing Gianforte to answer a question on health care. The confrontation, which was caught on audio, resulted in Gianforte being charged with misdemeanor assault.

Democrats have been working overtime seeking to flip seats in regions that heavily voted for Trump, and thus far have achieved little success. Yet this seemingly gift-wrapped controversy in an already tight race must have seemed like a golden opportunity to finally show that the Resistance™ was bearing fruit. In fact, the mainstream media did its utmost to assert that Gianforte’s action was proof positive of the Left’s charge that Trump has encouraged and perpetuated bigotry, racism and even violence across America.

In reality, Quist was a flawed candidate with a checkered past who simply didn’t cut it. Gianforte was a well-established, successful businessman who has heavily invested and helped to improve the economy of the state. He’d also previously run for governor. While failing to win, he proved he knew how to campaign. And really, outside of his body-slamming the reporter, he had few controversies.

Ironically, Democrats' favored tool of early voting might have cost them the election. Prior to the assault, over a third of Montanans had already cast their vote. This incident proves to be a rather convincing argument against those proponents of early voting.

The most important point, however, is that while journalists bemoan the lack of trust Americans have for the MSM, all while blaming conservatives, talk radio and Trump, the truth is that most of the fault for the distrust rests with journalists themselves. When journalism becomes activism for leftist agendas, don’t be surprised when the populace stops trusting the media’s narrative. Gianforte did apologize for his actions against the reporter, who by the way had trespassed in order to badger the candidate, but many Montanans actually appreciated the candidate’s takedown of the reporter. Honestly, many in Montana don’t view the Guardian reporter as an innocent victim, but as a member of the MSM hell-bent on attacking Trump and conservatives.

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS
Obama’s Leaking Loyalists18

By Brian Mark Weber

Despite the utter lack of evidence, the mainstream media continue to prop up a theory that there was collusion between Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russians, and any rumor or unfounded suggestion is reported as fact. However, a far greater problem than the alleged Trump-Russia connection (and the only one supported by evidence) is the leaks coming from the White House and from within the intelligence community. They are without question damaging our national security and undermining the president.

The impression created by the media is that Trump is so inherently incompetent that members of his own staff are doing the leaking. The image is one of utter chaos in the West Wing. In reality, many of the leaks are likely coming from political appointees of Barack Obama who remain in the White House. In the waning days of his presidency, Obama transferred these political appointees to civil servant status in order to make it harder for them to be terminated by the incoming president.

Remember when candidate Obama used to rail against the cynicism in our politics? Turns out he was right.

As The Daily Signal revealed19 last December, “After President Barack Obama exits office, at least 88 of his political appointees will likely remain working in the federal government under a Donald Trump administration, according to numbers from the Office of Personnel Management.”

It’s not atypical for employees under a former president to carry over to the new administration. But Obama clearly went out of his way to ensure that key individuals would retain their status long after Trump took office. It’s not their status that’s the problem, but the likelihood that they’re using their access within the government to leak information to the media.

A bombshell report released yesterday — one so far avoided by every mainstream media outlet — reveals6 Obama’s NSA routinely violated Americans' Fourth Amendment-based privacy protections. Were Trump and/or his associates some of those Americans?

Either this blatant abuse of power now becomes an integral part of the investigation — or America has ceased being a constitutional republic.

And this investigation is a witch hunt.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Cal Thomas: “Trusting Saudi Arabia to combat terrorists and extremists and ‘drive them out,’ as President Trump called on the kingdom and other Arab and Muslim nations to do in his Riyadh speech, is akin to forging an alliance with the Ku Klux Klan to combat racism and anti-Semitism. Saudi Arabia has for years promoted the very evil they now ‘commit’ to fighting through a newly established Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology. Never forget that 15 of the 9-11 hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia. President Trump’s speech was written by Westerners, delivered by a westerner and based on a faulty western premise, namely, that radical Muslims can be persuaded to abandon their goal of establishing a worldwide caliphate. It is a central theological principle of Wahhabism, an austere form of Islam based on a literal interpretation of the Koran, which Saudi Arabia has for years promoted in children’s textbooks, in mosques and through its media. No reporter asked the central question that should have been put to Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir during his press availability with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson: Since Saudi Arabia’s domestic and foreign policy is based on a theological worldview, have those views changed and if so, how did that ‘revelation’ come to you?”

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS
A Genuine Investigation or a Witch Hunt?27

By Arnold Ahlert

America will now endure an investigation led by former FBI director Robert Mueller regarding “Russian influence” in the election and Donald Trump’s campaign. One driven by an overwhelmingly slanted28 Leftmedia campaign determined29 to shape a relentlessly anti-Trump narrative, one anonymous felony-committing30 source after another.

Yet what — exactly — is Mueller investigating? As former CIA director John Brennan told31 the House Intelligence Committee Tuesday, there was “information intelligence about interactions and contacts between U.S. persons and the Russians” — even as he admitted he didn’t have “sufficient information to make a determination whether or not there was cooperation or complicity or collusion.”

That’s the evidentiary “standard” for precipitating a special counsel-led investigation? Then why did Democrat exchanges with the Russians never precipitate one?

Bill Clinton was paid32 $500,000 for a 2010 Moscow speech by Renaissance Capital, a firm with ties to Russian intelligence. Uranium One, a company whose sale to the Russian government was approved by the Clinton-led State Department — giving them control33 of over 20% of America’s uranium supply — donated millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation.

Clinton campaign manager, John Podesta, enjoyed a relationship with Joule Unlimited, a Kremlin-financed company that employed him as a director and gave him 75,000 shares of stock. His brother Tony lobbied34 on behalf of Sberbank, an institution completely beholden to Vladimir Putin, and one accused by Ukraine’s Security Service of financing terrorism.

Couldn’t those contacts could be characterized as “cooperation or complicity or collusion” by law enforcement officials and a hysterical media — if it suited their purposes? If this investigation doesn’t examine Republicans and Democrats, it’s a sham.

Another element of these machinations that doesn’t pass the smell test is the appointment35 of Mueller himself, championed as a paragon of integrity and impartiality.

Impartial? “While Mueller technically reported to Comey as deputy attorney general, Comey, two decades his junior, treated Mueller as a close friend and almost mentor,” Politico reported36 last week.

If Mueller is the consummate straight-shooter we’re assured he is, why not recuse himself for this transparent conflict of interest? “The law governing the special counsel (28 CFR 600.7) specifically prohibits [Mueller] from serving if he has a conflict of interest in the case,” Fox News contributor and attorney Gregg Jarret explains37. “The rule has been interpreted to mean that even the appearance of a conflict is sufficient for disqualification.”

Jarrett presumes Comey himself is being investigated. Yet on Monday, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz revealed38 Comey’s scheduled testimony was postponed — because he “wants to speak with” Mueller prior to going public. Thus, unless this is Comey-Mueller version of the Clinton-Lynch a “Tarmac Moment39,” we now know Comey is not being investigated.

Why not? In a masterful connect-the-dot piece of journalism, columnist Diana West explains40 a substantial part of the assertion the Russians hacked the DNC computers is based on statements made by security experts from CrowdStrike, the private cyber security firm hired and paid by the DNC.

The FBI? At a March 20, 2017 House Intelligence Committee hearing, Comey testified the agency “never got direct access to the machines themselves.”

At the same meeting, NSA Director Michael Rogers, another Obama administration holdover, was asked if his agency directly accessed the computers. “The NSA didn’t ask for access,” he stated. “That’s not in our job…”

Rep. Will Hurd pressed the issue with Comey. “So, director, the FBI notified the DNC early, before any information was put on WikiLeaks and when — you have still never been given access to any of the technical or the physical machines that were hacked by the Russians?” he asked. “That’s correct,” Comey answered, “although we got the forensics from the pros that they hired. … Again, best practice is always to get access to the machines themselves, but this, my folks tell me, was an appropriate substitute.”

Second-hand information provided by a biased source is an appropriate substitute? For what? What stopped Comey from getting a subpoena and seizing the machines?

By itself, this example of Comey’s seeming determination to avoid conducting a thorough investigation should warrant his investigation. Yet the FBI also allowed Hillary Clinton testify about her personal server without recording or transcribing the conversation. And the agency granted wholly unnecessary immunity deals to Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson that included two side agreements — one limiting the FBI’s scrutinization of documents to a time period before the most likely evidence about obstruction of justice occurred, and the other a promise to destroy the aides' computers after their examination. Even more egregious, Mills and Samuelson were allowed to function as part of Clinton’s legal team even though they were subjects of the same FBI investigation.

If all of that was done with Comey’s knowledge and presumed approval — how can he remain inviolate?

According to yet another unnamed source, CNN is reporting41 that Comey is sharing his Trump memos with Mueller. What about memos with regard to Obama, Clinton, or Loretta Lynch? The same Loretta Lynch whose meeting with Bill Clinton prompted Comey to assert42 the DOJ “could not credibly complete the investigation and decline prosecution without grievous damage to the American people’s confidence in the justice system,” in testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee?

“If the massive intelligence capabilities of the NSA and the CIA are being used for internal political purposes, the United States of America, as we know it and the Founders envisioned it, no longer exists,” warns43 PJ Media’s Roger Simon. “We are a post-modern totalitarianism and the Russian collusion scandal was just an excuse to impose it — or, more scarily, to cement what was already there.”

IN TODAY’S EDITION

A new report says ObamaCare has doubled premiums, but media focus on GOP’s plan.
So Obama’s was regularly spying on Americans…
There are some troubling conflicts of interest in the Trump-Russia probe.
Daily Features: Top Headlines, Cartoons, Columnists and Short Cuts.

THE FOUNDATION

“If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions.” —James Madison (1792)

TOP RIGHT HOOKS

Obama Doubled Your Health Care Premium1

The dumpster fire known as ObamaCare just keeps burning hotter. The Department of Health and Human Services released a report2 this week on the laughably named “Affordable” Care Act and, in what should come as a surprise to no one, it showed that the average cost of individual health care plans has doubled since 2013. That year, the average month premium was $224, but by 2017 it was $476.

In fact, we in our own humble shop can verify the HHS numbers. In 2008 — the good old pre-Obama years — our company health insurance premiums cost $382 per month per family (we’re a very small group). By 2013, as ObamaCare’s effects were beginning to be felt, our monthly premiums had risen to $554 per month. In the ensuing years, we’ve reduced coverage to keep costs under control, and yet to renew our plan in 2017 will cost a gut-wrenching $1,291 per month. We’re shopping other options.

Now let’s flashback to 2008 when Barack Obama was stumping for his health care plan. He promised, “We’ll lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year.” And he didn’t just say this once but repeatedly. Then in 2012, after the passage of the onerous law, Obama made another promise: “You should know that once we [have ObamaCare] fully implemented, you’re going to be able to buy insurance through a pool so that you can get the same good rates as a group that if you’re an employee at a big company you can get right now — which means your premiums will go down.” Obama was lying, and his disastrous law is hurting more people than it has helped, by far.

Along with the rest of the nation, we obviously missed out on Obama’s health care utopia, because our premiums have tripled for less coverage (no, we couldn’t “keep our plan”) since he promised all these fantastical savings.

Meanwhile, from the world of leftist propaganda, the only story on health care being covered today is the newly released report from the Congressional Budget Office on its projection of the impact of the House Republicans' American Health Care Act3. The big news is that this plan could leave an estimated 23 million Americans without health insurance. But in a free society where individuals are not forced by government to purchase health insurance, there will be those who choose not to4, so of course there will be a decrease in the number of insured. The far bigger issue in a nation that prizes individual liberty is the cost of insurance and health care. But when the premise is “universal coverage,” we get stories about the millions without it.

Obama and the Democrats created this health care nightmare and foisted it upon the American people, and yet the Leftmedia-leading Washington Post has the gall to completely ignore the HHS report on what actually happened to premiums because they’re too busy blasting Republicans over a CBO projection on an ObamaCare repeal and replacement bill the Senate has yet to consider. Just a reminder: Republicans are the ones seeking to save Americans from this total mess. Maybe it’s journalism that dies in darkness5.

Obama’s NSA Illegally Surveilled Americans for Years6

More information has come to light revealing the degree to which Barack Obama and his administration violated protocols designed to protect Americans from unlawful government surveillance. Conveniently, in October of last year, just two weeks before the election, in a closed-door hearing before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, the Obama administration self-disclosed that since 2011 the National Security Agency had routinely violated Americans' privacy rights in failing to meet privacy protection standards.

This disclosure of protocol violations was significant enough that even the FISA court called it a “very serious Fourth Amendment issue.” So how bad was the problem? Well, according a story from Circa7, “More than 5 percent, or one out of every 20 searches seeking upstream Internet data on Americans inside the NSA’s so-called Section 702 database violated the safeguards Obama and his intelligence chiefs vowed to follow in 2011.” In 2011, Obama loosened privacy rules, which precipitated a three-fold increase in the number of NSA data searches as well as unmasking of Americans. In other words, Obama worked to make it easier to surveil and collect data on Americans, contrary to the claims of his former national security advisor, Susan Rice. (And she knows a thing or two about lying and unmasking8.)

On Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) warned, “If we determine this to be true, this is an enormous abuse of power. This will dwarf all other stories.” Even the leftist American Civil Liberties Union blasted the report, with the ACLU’s legislative counsel Neema Singh Guliani stating, “I think what this emphasizes is the shocking lack of oversight of these programs. You have these problems going on for years that only come to the attention of the court late in the game and then it takes additional years to change its practices.” She continued, “I think it does call into question all those defenses that we kept hearing, that we always have a robust oversight structure and we have culture of adherence to privacy standards. And the headline now is they actually haven’t been in compliance for years and the FISA court itself says in its opinion is that the NSA suffers from a culture of a lack of candor.”

Forget Russia, maybe this latest revelation will open the door to truly delving into just how much lying and spying Obama and company9 perpetrated to interfere with the election.

God's Grace

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” (Philippians 4:23)

The basic form of today’s verse appears 13 times in the New Testament. In Scripture, repetition is not for lack of something to say but the Holy Spirit’s intentional emphasis on something.

God extends His grace to the very creation itself by merely keeping the universe together (2 Peter 3:7), intending thereby to “speak” and supply knowledge (Psalm 19:1-4) sufficient to display His very nature and power in such a way that there can be “no excuse” about His existence and care for humanity (Romans 1:20).

In seven of the 13 times, this “grace of our Lord Jesus Christ” is focused on “you.” God’s grace is very personal. Everything that He has done is because He loves you and me beyond any grasp of our earthly imagination. No one is beyond the touch of God’s grace: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11). “We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

Once, in contrast, God says some will turn “the grace of our God into lasciviousness” and deny Him who has bought and paid for all the horrible sin that they embraced to spite such grace (Jude 1:4). No wonder the apostle Paul calls such people “abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate” (Titus 1:16).

The Lord twice focuses His grace on our spirits, indicating God’s intimate knowledge of our innermost thoughts (Romans 8:26). Paul noted that God’s grace is “exceeding abundant with faith and love” (1 Timothy 1:14), and he insisted that His grace is designed to be “glorified in you” (2 Thessalonians 1:12). Like today’s verse, most of the prayers for us end in “Amen.” And that’s the way it should be. HMM III

Spiritual Victory
by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

If we go to the Scriptures and claim, by faith, the Spirit’s help in overcoming our sins, we enter into the enjoyment of the fullness of spiritual life and blessing. If we fail to do so, we wither and die — as far as our spiritual experience is concerned. We can never lose our salvation, of course, for “everlasting life” was obtained by faith in Christ, not by walking in the Spirit. This is confirmed by the fact that the same apostle who pleads: “Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God,” hastens to add: “WHEREBY YE ARE SEALED UNTO THE DAY OF REDEMPTION” (Eph. 4:30).

But failure to appropriate God’s gracious provision for victory over sin does result in death as far as our Christian experience is concerned. This is what the Apostle means, when he says, by the Spirit:

“FOR TO BE CARNALLY MINDED IS DEATH; BUT TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED IS LIFE AND PEACE” (Rom. 8:6).

“FOR IF YE LIVE AFTER THE FLESH, YE SHALL DIE: BUT IF YE THROUGH THE SPIRIT DO MORTIFY [PUT TO DEATH] THE DEEDS OF THE BODY, YE SHALL LIVE” (Rom. 8:13).

To the careless Corinthians, the Apostle Paul exclaimed:

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (I Cor. 6:19,20).

Let me joyfully be a hewer of wood, or a drawer of water!

("Every Day!" Author unknown, 1872)

"Lord, what will You have me to do?" Acts 9:6

What an honor it is to be permitted to do anything in the service of the King of kings and Lord of lords! But this honor have all the saints.

Happy it is, when we are constrained by the love of Christ to enter on a course of devoted service, and to ask, "Lord, what will You have me to do?"

You know, O Lord, what work I am best fitted to do. I would not choose my own employment--but would follow Your direction. Let me not attempt what is above my capacity. Let me not shrink from what You enable me to accomplish. Let me joyfully be a hewer of wood, or a drawer of water--if this would please You.

Or if You call me to arduous service, to stand in forefront of the battle, to defend Your cause and Your truth--let me not draw back from my post, for You will impart needful courage, and make Your strength perfect in my weakness.

Joyful is the thought that You have something for all Your children to do . . .
some ignorant ones for them to instruct,
or some troubled ones for them to comfort,
or some needy ones for them to relieve--
some work of faith or labor of love--for all of them to perform!

God's Complete Supply

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

The key to this promise in today’s verse is the need that must be met by the riches of the great King as we render our service in His Kingdom. But how vast those needs can be and how different the supply is!

Millions of Israelites needed food in the wilderness, and the manna came fresh from heaven each day for 40 years (Exodus 16:35). Gideon needed victory over the innumerable Midianites, and God caused confusion to fall on his enemies (Judges 7:22). Elijah needed a powerful demonstration of God’s authority, and fire came down from heaven (1 Kings 18:38).

In the New Testament, a crippled man needed a new hand (Mark 3:5), a blind man needed new eyes (John 9:5-6), and a dead man needed life (John 11:43-44). Jesus made the best wine anyone had ever had when the party needed supply (John 2:10-22). He calmed the sea when the disciples needed freedom from their fear (Mark 4:38-39). And He pulled Peter up from the sea when he needed rescue (Matthew 14:30-31). No matter the size of the need, the resources are more than sufficient.

More often than not, however, the need is spiritual. We all need God’s forgiveness from the “sickness” of sin (Mark 2:17). When we first come into His Kingdom, we need the “milk” of the Word (Hebrews 5:12). We all need the wisdom to “walk honestly toward them that are without” (1 Thessalonians 4:12).

And our great God has the resources to supply all our needs. HMM III
