That was called a "rumble seat" and it came in the old Ford Roadsters in 1929 through 1932 I think. Yes it was a popular car to be restored or souped up in the 50's. That car can really move if a 302 is dropped under the hood.  Grin Grin Some of them were soft top convertibles so you probably could still stand up in them.  Wink Grin Grin

nah you're going back way too far. The car I'm talking about was a sedan, not convertible and the little jump seats were inside the car there was a big space between the back seat and the front seart and inbetween there was this little round stool that would pop out as an extra seat. The car mut've been an early 50's model. Possibly a Buick or a Pontiac.

It sounds more like a Cadilac. My uncle had his own Cadilac transmission shop and owned somewhere around 20 caddies from 1949 to 1958. I remember a couple of those cars seemed to fit the discription you are giving. If it was a Buick or Pontiac it would have to have been a pretty unique model where not many were made.

I was just a little girl (yes! believe it or not I was young once),  Grin
so It may have been a Cadillac, I just remember I loved sitting in that little seat and when I got tired of sitting I would stand up.

I did find an old Merc' on the internet that had a jumpseat but I don't think it was original equipment.

I believe in 1954 or 1955 they started putting rear facing jump seats in some of the station wagons of domestic cars .... Buick, Pontiac, Ford, etc .....

YES, I remember the old party lines, and I also remember that kids weren't allowed to use them. Phones were for adults who had important business. Our entire telephone number was 3 digits, and I can't remember how many families used the same phone line.

AND, someone had to remind me about the homemade sling-shot. If you guessed anything about a broken window and someone getting into trouble, you guessed right.  Grin

Someone also mentioned forts. YES, we had a good one, and we had mud-ball fights with the neighbors. I found all kinds of ways to get into trouble, and it seemed that I always got caught. I learned to just plead guilty and throw myself on the mercy of the court.  Cheesy

That did usually result in a lighter sentence.   Wink Grin

Dreamweaver,

Brother, I really never had a single thought about becoming a police officer until I saw a job opening notice one day. I still feel like I was led to become a police officer, and I don't regret the decision at all.

I certainly wasn't any little angel while growing up. Maybe the experience of being caught helped me to learn how to be a catcher.  Cheesy
