60556  Theology / Apologetics / Re:I need help and prayer for someone on: November 03, 2004, 09:54:45 AM
I just ran into this same statement (Universal Salvation) on another forum. I guess I am behind the times on this one and am going to have to look into it. I agree with you it is a very dangerous teaching from what little I gather on it.

My prayers are with you and your brother.

Joh 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Did you know that Zondervan announced on 19 October this year that they are coming out with yet another Bible? This one is designed for teen boys ages 13 to 16. The owner of Zondervan is also the owner of Sun, a UK newspaper. Now I have never seen the "Sun" but I understand that on page 3 there are always displayed young girls, improperly dressed. Thiese girls are commonly called "P3girls".

It is currently planned to pull the maps and concordance out of an NIV and replace them with pictures and testimonies of some of the P3girls.

felix102,

Did you know that the KJV is written in a 4.5 grade level and the NIV is written in a 6th grade reading level?

You are wrong. I have read this teen study bible myself. I asked that question as I wanted to understand your comments on it.

In my experience with teens that have not had an extensive Christian upbringing and are new to Jesus Christ that the "alternate definition" would have a tendency to stick out to them and they wouldn't read any further as that is the "language" that they understand the best. It would have been best just to leave the "alternative definition" out of it completely.

I must admit that I do have a problem with the NIV also as portions of the Bible was left out in its translation.

blackeyedpeas,

If things turn out that way my family and I will be seeing you in Borneo. Grin

Please pass on to your son that there are many back here pulling for him and his shipmates and we all thank him for carrying on where we left off. That is coming from an old Chief Petty Officer and his friends.

And you are right this is a battle between good and evil. All the other issues fall under that as a secondary result that supports the main one.

The majority of the active duty Soldiers and Sailors that I talk to daily are for Bush and they are unable to respect Kerry. One thing I was taught in the military was, in order to be a good leader you must first gain and maintain the respect of your troops.

60561  Entertainment / Politics and Political Issues / Re:Election 2004! on: November 02, 2004, 09:52:48 PM
Yes, at least our leaders there are showing some indication of humility.  That's a very big lead.   Wink

Would we ever see Kerry (or P. Clinton) doing that??  I don't know.  Maybe flipping the bird to the photographer, I guess.  Sad

Right now, Tuesday eve, from over at Drudge:

Popular Vote 11% of Precincts Reporting
George W. Bush   55%   8,101,550
John Kerry   44%   6,502,610

Electoral
Bush 102
Kerry 077

So right now, P. Bush definitely in the lead, but that's only 11% of precincts.  89% still to go.  So it's still very early.

'Just thinking, tho, what if Kerry DOES win - militarily, to me, the absolute unthinkable.

I just see us, militarily, overseas, in a total rout, if Kerry wins.

And, in our Supreme Court - we have possibly four seats coming open, in the next four years?

Yikes!  With a liberal President, our Court will become even more liberal than it already is!

Just those two realities, I think, would be the beginning of the end, if not quicker, for the U.S. - quicker because of a castrated military, but perhaps longer as the court gradually becomes more and more a liberal, socialist court, and legislates us into subjection to the U.N.

That's the way it looks to me - a deathnell militarily, and in our courts.

I agree with your summation on a Kerry administration. Our military would become less than a police force. With Kerry in office then former P. Clinton would become a shoo in for Sec Gen of the UN. That with a drastic change in the courts would tie us in to full control by the UN.

60563  Theology / General Theology / Re:Just a couple of questions on: November 02, 2004, 09:41:03 AM
I have limited time this morning so I will give you a brief statement on this.

Mat 5:21  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
Mat 5:22  But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

This does not necessarily mean brother as in sibling nor does it mean that we are to hate him.

If you can check back with me here I will present the rest the Bible has on this.

and I've already violated any time limits - by far.   Undecided

*sigh* I waz alwayz the last one finishing tests, too.   Tongue

HMMMM.  WAIT!   THERE  ARE  SIX!

I just now noticed another one in the 'ofs'.   Roll Eyes

Dumbkopf!

How dumb can you get.    Roll Eyes

*sigh*

And I've had to 'study' it too, at least four times, just to 'find' all six.

*sigh*

It's all for naught.  I'm dumb.  It's true. *sigh*    Cry

But it IS a good game.  Actually a little sophisticated.

How would you know it single out 'fs' as a letter people would repeatedly miss?

Why do we miss them?

Must have something to do with the way our lips pronounce them - linguistics.

B/c the 'f' in 'of' is pronounced entirely different from the 'f' in 'files', so we miss it completely.

Because we're 'lip' reading, when we try to find them.

I'll betcha that's why.  But TimV ain't here no mo, so we can't ask'm.   Embarrassed

   Cry

When reading most people do not actually read the word "of".
Our minds for some reason pass over this type of word. Try writing a paragraph sometime using "of" frequently leaving it out in numerous occasions. Most people will not even realise that you left any out because their minds will assume it to be there.

LOL. Both are funny yet so sadly true.

MY nightmare is also along those lines but with Bill Clinton getting the position of Sec Gen of the UN. It is a position that he has announced that he will be going for in 2006 when Kofi Anons time is up. It is believed that if Kerry makes President that he will get it.

60567  Theology / General Theology / Re:How to Handle Contraditions in Scripture on: November 01, 2004, 01:49:12 PM
Silver Surfer,

I do understand what you have been saying. There is a difference between the "Law of Moses" and the Ten Commandments. It is a difference that many people do not understand.

The Law of Moses has to do with the sacrifice of animals, the how and wherefores of setting up the sacrifice altar plus a few other laws given by Moses. These laws were done away with, (or I should say changed) with Jesus and the cross.

The Ten Commandments were given by God to Moses on the mount. Yes these commandments do still pertain and as followers of Jesus we are to keep them. The important thing here is to understand what it means to be under the Grace of God through Jesus Christ. Those that attempt to keep these commandments without accepting this grace first will be condemned to an eternal death.

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

If we love Jesus we will have the desire to abide by these commandments. Will we succeed even after accepting Jesus as our Saviour? No for we are still in the flesh and the flesh is weak.

Mat 26:41  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

He will continue forgiving us for our weakness (sins).

1Jo 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jo 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Can we overcome those sins when we are tempted? With His help, yes. When tempted we must take it to Him just as we must do if we were weak and fell into temptation.

That is the wonderous benefit of grace.

Rom 6:14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

blackeyedpeas,

I understand the health problem and how it can affect a person. I am suffering from the Gulf War Illness. A problem that has hit many Gulf War Veterans. There are times that I cannot think straight, remember things, and sometimes cannot get out of bed because of it. Not complaining here just saying that I do understand. I join in prayers with Bronzesnake for your health and well being and in your request.

Thank you for clarifying your statement. I didn't mean to sound contentious either. I feel that such things are minor details anyway being that the most important is that we will not be subjected to the condemnation of hell by having our name in the Book of Life through the Grace of God through Jesus Christ.

May God bless you both.

60570  Theology / General Theology / Re:Long Hair. 1Cor.11:1-16 on: November 01, 2004, 10:57:11 AM
The definition of the word 'custom' " a usual practice, habit. social convention carried on by tradition."
Are you saying that we should be dressing as they did in the early church? Are women in your church braiding their hair? that is forbbiden if we were to follow your interpretation .

Blessings,
bluelake

What verse 16 is saying is that they had NO custom that defined a requirement for the length of hair. That he (Paul) really was not concerned with such a trivial matter as length of hair. His main concern in this letter (chapters 10 and 11) to the Corinths was the women in the church that were acting like the pagan priestesses and prophetesses (acting like men) and was telling them not to follow that example.

So that leaves us with 1 Tim 2:9 and 1 Pet 3:3.

First lets look at 1 Tim 2:9.

Here it is telling them their place in the church and how to go about properly conducting that position. Being "modest" in appearance is just a part of that. Modesty here is in comparison to women of that time and in that area that were putting their hair in real fancy broids way high on their heads (called beehives, if I remember right). Modest apparel was not saying that women have to wear dull looking clothes such as straight black or gray dresses. To be modest here is saying to be properly covered and not to wear all kinds of gold and pearls or other such adornment. Simple ear rings or a wedding ring, perhaps a simple necklace, not outlandish but simple. This was in comparison to those women there that wore jewelry in their hair, a dozen neclaces, a ring on every finger and such all over their dresses.

Does this mean that women cannot put their hair in a simple twirl on top of their head or a simple bun? Not at all as it is a simple, modest hair style.

1 Pet 3:3

Here the main idea behind this chapter is the relationship of a man to a woman and woman to the man. That the woman should be more concerned with having her heart right (the inward adorning) toward God and toward her husband than to spend a lot of time on the outward adorning.

People that take these verses as a single verse and not read the whole chapter, very frequently misunderstand the intent of them. One must read the entire subject to get the proper message being relayed.
