136  Theology / Debate / Re:a question for all of you on: June 25, 2004, 10:25:53 AM
25. Not that it matters. I would ask you why you asked that, but I dont want to get off topic. I have a major in economics. And in philosophy. That might be why I renounced my formerly methodist beliefs.

When did you become a Christian?
137  Theology / Debate / Re:Obesity... on: June 25, 2004, 03:03:10 AM
Gluttony is a sin.
To be obese is not a sin. It can be a result of sin the same way cancer and other illnesses can be a result of sin.
To not do anything about obesity could possibly be considered a sin by some.
138  Theology / Debate / Re:Correct vs. incorrect interpretations on: June 25, 2004, 02:57:52 AM
...Which means that God intentionally saves some people, and damns the rest to eternal hellfire.

Beautiful. Roll Eyes

That is a belief that is derived from Calvinism.
Not all Christians believe that way.
Stop being so stereotypical and maybe you'll start getting some answers and a better understanding of Christianity.
To continue the way you have makes me wonder if you really want answers or if you just want to be a troll.

nimble- just curious- how old are you?
140  Fellowship / Parenting / Re:Enrolling in Public School.... on: June 24, 2004, 12:44:11 PM
AAAA- how many children do you have and did you ever have to help them make a transition in life similar to  this?
141  Fellowship / Parenting / Re:Enrolling in Public School.... on: June 24, 2004, 12:17:54 PM
It's one thing to politely mention a spelling or typographical error, it's totally different to try to make the other person look stupid.
If you must make someone else look bad to get your point across, then you need to sharpen your debate skills.

I will gladly discuss or debate this topic with those who wish to continue like adults.
I used to be a moderator on a Christian board and have seen all sides of the public school vs. private school vs. homeschool debate.

We have prayed about this decision.
We live in a small town and know the teachers and the principal of the school.
We made the decision because I will not go where God does not lead.
We prayed about how to educate our daughter when she was going into Kindergarten.
All doors for private and public schooling where closed to us. All doors for homeschooling were opened for us.
This year all doors for private schooling and homeschooling have been closed for us. All doors for public schooling have been opened for us.
In the past, when I have not followed His lead, I have made a big mess of things. I'll not intentionally do that again.

It's interesting that someone would mention the school nurse. We have one nurse for the middle and high school. She is a good friend of mine and she helps me through prayer and support with my ministry to help women who've had abortions learn about the love of Christ and she volunteers for CPC.

The middle school principal is a Christian man, deacon in our church and friend of my husband.
The high school principal is a Christian man and an elder in our church.

My husband and I have already signed up for the PTO and I've signed up to volunteer in the classrooms. With my work schedule, I'll probably only be able to volunteer one day a week.
142  Theology / Debate / Re:Women in leadership roles.... on: June 24, 2004, 11:54:45 AM
So Paul's teachings are outdated?
Do we get to pick and choose which parts of the Bible still apply today?
BTW- Christians are still being murdered today for their beliefs.

ebia- anyone's explaination will do.
143  Fellowship / Parenting / Enrolling in Public School.... on: June 20, 2004, 01:45:16 AM
My husband and I have decided to enroll our 11 year old daughter in public school this fall.
She will be in sixth grade.
She has always been homeschooled.
Anyone have any advice?
144  Theology / Debate / Re:death penalty right or wrong? on: June 20, 2004, 01:18:05 AM
As long as that prison has windows or doors, the prisoner can find a way to escape.

As long as that person is in prison, the overburdened taxpayers will be punished as well.

So it comes down to killing people to save money?  Very Christlike.

So it comes down to honest, hard working people not being able to provide a home for their families because they are paying for a murderer to have free room and board.
Very Christlike.
145  Theology / Debate / Re:Women in leadership roles.... on: June 18, 2004, 01:15:13 AM
Evangelist- sorry, I couldn't get to your link.

BlackmanX- care to give an explanation of what Paul was talking about when he said women should not be in leadership roles in the church or when he talked about male headship in the home?
146  Theology / Debate / Re:Seventh Day Adventists on: June 17, 2004, 03:30:48 AM
Candace and Left Coast-
I'm enjoying reading what you have posted in this thread.
I really don't know that it has that much to do with SDAs (yes, I'm aware that Ellen White is a woman and the founder of the SDA religion.)
I have started a thread on women in leadership roles and I would love to hear input from both of you (as well as others) on your thoughts about women's roles in and out of the home and the church.
Thanks!

Yes, Ellen was what started the whole thing.  Wink
I'm not too sure how much time I'll have in the next 2-3 weeks to contribute, I will be out of town on business.  Undecided

That's too bad.
I was looking forward to reading your posts on the topic.
I hope you have a blessed and sucessful business trip.
I will pray that your travels will be safe.

tell me. what makes you beleive in god?

Even satan believes in God. It's not that I believe in Him, it's that I want to give my all to Him. He gave everything for me and has shown me a love like no other ever can or ever will.

Quote
there is no proof anywhere.

What would be proof to you?

Quote
I think its pretty stupid that people beleive in god just because their parents them it was true or a missionary told them it was true.

I think it's pretty stupid when people use silly stereotypes to try and make Christians look like a bunch of zombies just going with the flow.
I grew up with an atheist dad and an agnostic mom.
I was saved at the age of 28 and the first time I met a Christian missionary I was somewhere in my early 30s.

Quote
the truth is you dont really know.

I know the same as I know my husband and children love me and I know I love them.

Quote
the bible could just be a book of fiction. and you might never know.

When I was in high school (my teens are pretty sure that was just under 1000 years ago) I fell in love with reading classic novels. The kind that men like Steinbeck, Williams, Twain, etc. wrote. If the Bible is fiction, then it was poorly done and would not have lasted all these years.

Quote
you could just go nowhere when you die. so, what makes you beleive?

Well, please show me where the Bible has been proven wrong. If you can show that the Bible has ever been proven wrong, then I'll question what it says about the afterlife.

Quote
i'm agnostic by the way

How can you be sure about that?  Wink

Should women be able to be pastors, preachers, priests etc?
What type of leadership roles should they have in the church?

How about at home?
Who should be in leadership at home?
