In fact, there are quite a few spices that taste good and aren't bad for you at all.

I know, I do most of the cooking at home.

I just haven't found a way to make Melba Toast taste good.

Try a little bit of garlic power, not garlic salt. Also I use "Smart Balance", for my butter which tastes pretty good. That is a butter substitute, with none bad fats.

I just haven't found a way to make Melba Toast taste good.   Cheesy

The best way I've found is to just not eat it.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I eat home made whole wheat bread instead, lightly toasted.

Pastor Roger,

Brother, that homemade whole wheat bread sounds wonderful, and I love the aroma of bread cooking. It would be fine for us if the fiber is high enough, and you just gave me a great idea. THANKS! I remember eating homemade bread and I plan to remember it again. Both of us like raisins, so I suspect that the recipe will contain raisins.

It's much higher in fiber than melba toast and taste a whole lot better too.

Melba toast is right around .9 grams per serving

Whole wheat bread has anywhere from 2 to 5 grams per serving depending on the recipe used.

I just went to check and make sure that I would be telling the truth. We've been buying bread that has 6 grams of fiber per slice and 48% of daily requirements for fiber with just two slices of bread. I like it but my wife doesn't. She compares it to eating a Brillo pad.  Cheesy

It is a pretty heavy bread. It's not like most of the whipped air type bread that most people buy. BUT, you've made me decide to make our own. I might get with you and see if you're willing to share your recipe. In fact, many people might enjoy a recipe thread for healthy food. I know that I would. I quit trying to eat Melba Toast, mainly because I just can't stand it (dunked or not). I think that I would rather eat cardboard.

That sounds like a gluten free bread that has had the fiber boosted with adding something like Inulin, Millet or Flax or even a combination of them. Leaving the gluten out is healthier but it makes for a heavier bread that is less sweet tasting. There are some store bought breads that have other means of boosting the fiber. Something called resistant starch that is made from corn is the primary one. It is next to impossible to get it for making home made bread and personally I don't care for the breads that are made with it.

If you want lots of fiber besides breads and whole grain cereals go for some beans, re raspberries or blackberries. You'll get anywhere from 6 to 15.6 grams per cup. Add some of these to your breads for some great variety. Lentils have 15.6 grams per cup and makes for a great bread. Black beans are almost as high and also make for a great bread.

Instead of high jacking our coffee thread for this anymore I think that I will try making another thread for this to see how it goes.

I have to eat as sugar free as possible because of diabetes, and I'm collecting diabetic and sugar free recipes. I also found some great tasting sugar free soft candy. Since it does have fat in it, I still have to be careful how much I eat. I bought Splenda to see if it's fit to eat; I haven't tried it yet. No matter what you eat these days, someone will tell you it's bad for you.

I just don't want to be on insulin; being on the pills and having to refrain from eating sugar is bad enough. Because of high blood pressure, and high everything else, I'm in danger of a stroke or a heart attack. I've known many people (including my dad) who had a stroke, and it's not something I want. None of them were ever right in the head. Well, actually it improved my dad's personality. Anything would ahve been an improvement. The only time he treated me good was when he was drunk--until after his illness.

It's definitely time for a cup of coffee. I can almost smell it now. My wife and I are both sick with the flu, a bad cold, or a virus of some sort. For whatever reason, my wife has the worst of it with a high fever. We're watching things pretty closely and plan to see the doctor if things don't get better soon. We both took the flu shots, so we really don't know what's going on. I've just felt real bad, but my wife has had fevers over 102. Everyone stay warm and take care of yourselves. We're also expecting some rough winter weather tonight or tomorrow. For now, we don't plan on going anywhere unless it's to the doctor. All of this Al Gore global warming sure is COOOOOOLD!   Grin

Love In Christ,
Tom

Sorry to hear you and your wife are sick, brother. There is a virus of some sort that seems to being round that is causing some people to run high fevers with it. Our twins had it and one of them even broke out in a rash from the fever.

Our prayers are with you both.

Thanks for the prayers. We both appreciate that.

We don't do chicken soup very often when we're sick, but we are about to have chicken and rice made from scratch. If chicken soup would have helped, this will help.

We're also having strange weather. It's very cold and we're having a thunderstorm right now. The weatherman said that would turn into ice and snow, so I'll guess that it won't.   Cheesy

Everyone try to stay warm and dry. AND by all means, have a cup of coffee.

 Cheesy

GOOD EVENING ALSO!

I keep forgetting that we have folks from all over the world using the forum.

I guess that we could borrow a phrase from Australia and cover it all:

Good'ay Mate!

Yes, it is a good day in the Lord. Another wonderful Son-Day.

I understand that this year the flu season has been quite a bit worse than it has in the last few years. I know that it is now hitting a majority of my family with fevers between 102 to 104. I'm praising God as so far it hasn't hit me too bad so I am able to care somewhat for the rest that it has hit. I am praying that all out there are doing well in this. It is time now for me to take somewhat of break and get some COFFEE.

Hello Pastor Roger,

You and your family will be in my prayers.

If I understand correctly, the flu shots this year only covered about 40% of the stuff that actually hit. My wife and I both had it, and we're just now regaining strength. I don't know how high the fevers got, but my wife had 102 + at the beginning of it. I'm sad to say that you might not be able to avoid getting it if it's already spreading in your family. It appears to be extremely contagious, and I think that just breathing is more than enough to get it.

The only thing I know to do is wash your hands frequently, keep your hands away from your mouth in between hand washings, and maybe take some extra vitamin C. AND, this probably won't work if you're taking care of someone who already has it. This one isn't close to being the worst flu I've seen, but it does make you pretty sick for about 3 days or more.
