RIP, William Rehnquist

This is really gonna shake-up DC. The Clintonian Reactionaries have already sharpened their hacket men to oppose to Roberts, and now they'll have someone else to castigate.

The big question is....Will a replacement be named before or after Roberts confirmation hearing?

Hey Phil -
Quote
Nixon was such a colorful character.
"Colorful."  I personally appreciate your obvious restraint.  Grin  Cheesy  Cheesy  Cheesy

Thanks to R.N. (I guess) pulling out of SEA when he did, it saved me a probable tour and possible death.  Since I didn't have to go into the service and learn (among other things) discipline, I went on a many-year-mind-altering-substance-abuse-binge.

Nowdays I ask myself if I should thank Tricky-D or curse him... Lips Sealed

Back to judges - The Bush administration did a good job (I think so far) in picking a sterile personna in Roberts.  I just wish we knew what Roberts REALLY thinks.  I think they will do the same with the next pick.

Personally, I think that Janice Rogers Brown would be a fine supreme, but the racist left would filibuster that in a porn-belt minute.

What makes me more than a little nervous is the timing of the pick - it's all in the 'background' now.  It is an extremely bad time in US history to be making a decision that will ultimately affect generations of Americans.

I wouldn't have GW's job for all the Rice in Houston.   Grin

As all these things loom before us: Katrina, the SCOTUS, the frontal assaults by the ACLU - Jesus sure makes things simple.   "For whoever believes..."

Thank You, Lord.

And since you brought up porn. Didyaknow, Rehnquist sided with Larry Flint in his 1st Amendment case that went to the SC?? Rehnquist is painted as conservative, but he was more of centrist.

The first amendment is a tough one, for sure.  As Christians we want to maintain our power of prayer and public demonstration of Christ's love (so we can take Him to the ends of the earth) while limiting another's ideology in the same arena.  This is clearly not only a constitutional dilemma but a personal Christian dilemma.  I don’t believe our founder’s had any idea something like “pornography” (was there even a word for it then?) would be entwined with freedom of speech and freedom of prayer issues.  But then – I’ll draw fire for this, but I'm one of the few conservatives who believes a 'desecration’ law concerning the American flag is equal to idolatry.

I think that under our founder's watch Larry Flint would have been victim to public hanging.  I think in the mind of Larry Flint that would make him a martyr.

Here’s a question for you; Mr. Flint has surely been witnessed to many times over.  When, as a Christian, do we quit witnessing Christ to an individual who clearly doesn’t want to hear it, is threatening legal action if you persist, and is clearly an agent of Lucifer?
