I have had the privilege and honor to have been in several conversations recently with a gentleman that saw WWII first hand. He was a 1st Sgt 3rd Army. With his permission already given, I would like to share some excerpts from a few things that he has written.
We had a man in our Co. that always said there was no such thing as a God and religion was foolish etc.
After a few days in France,in the hegderow area a flight of P-38s hedgehopping under the Kraut radar popped over "our" hedgerow and were gone just like that. We neither heard or saw them coming and they were gone. Just the roar.
Our resident agnostic yelled over to me "Sarge -Holy Mother of God what was that?".
When I was able to stop laughing I yelled back to him "You tell me how God can have a Holy Mother when he doesn't exist and I'll tell you".
That day there was a foxhole conversion and our resident agnostic disappeared for ever.
That was my introduction to the Tiger real up close and personal. I had seen some in Normandy area but never that close and I was glad the FFI were in control of the tank and I never imagined that I would ever get that close and yet be able to walk away.
It was not unheard of that the Krauts used a Tiger with an 88 on it as an anti-personnel weapon. When that barrel swung around to face us it looked as big as the Grand Canyon and in a situation like that you get religion real fast.
This was another case where our resident agnostic kept repeating the phrase Oh MY God! Oh My God!
The time of trouble in a persons life will either open their eyes to the truth or it will harden their hearts even more. It is a time that we need to realize what we have always known from the beginning of time .... there is a God and He wants to help us if we only accept Him.
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
