Mommy dearest, (sorry - I just HAD to address you that way!)
First, I ask, “Does your literature support and confirm that Jesus Christ is God, and that the only way to the Father is through the Son?”
If they say “no” I then ask, “Are you willing to at least entertain the idea the Father and Son are one?” If they say “yes” – then we have some serious discussions ahead of us!
If they say “no” – then what is to discuss? They are scoffers.
If they ask me, “Are you willing to at least entertain the idea the Father and Son are NOT one?” I will say “no, absolutely not – Jesus lives in my heart and I know that is an untruth.”
If someone is willing to listen to the Truth, I will share. If someone is so adamant that it is apparent they will never accept Jesus as God, then that is a different story. As it says in scripture:
Proverbs 9:7-10
He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, and he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, reprove a wise man and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. As Christians, the Truth is written in our hearts. Those who will not hear the Truth are scoffers. Those who are willing to hear the Truth show wisdom.
(FYI – In my personal experience I’ve learned that most Mormons are willing to discuss all and any scenarios – they are actually a lot of fun to debate. They seldom get angry and always leave with a smile, even when they’ve not made a “convert”.)
