The verb baptized does not mean water. It can be likened to taking an oath. An oath in the name of Christ Jesus.
Yes, for the oath to be visible it is performed in water in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord. Baptism, the noun, is the final results that I have given my oath and now I have clothed myself with Christ. I am now a citizen of the kingdom of heaven. Baptism is NOT something we perform. Baptism is performed upon us. We are now members of Christ's body and we all been given drink in one Spirit. Baptism has put us into the death of Christ. We are dead to all things, but made alive in Christ Jesus our Lord. BUT, baptism is NEVER water baptism!

Gal 3:27
For as many of you as been [baptized[v_aor.pas.ind.2.pl.] [into[eis] Christ,
[you clothed yourselves[v_aor.mid.ind.2.pl.] with Christ.

1Cor 12:13 And
for [in[en] one Spirit we are all [been baptized[v_aor.pas.ind.1.pl.] [into[eis] one body, whether [we are] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we are] bond or free; and we are all [been given drink[v_aor.pas.ind.1.pl.] in one Spirit.

1Cor 1:15
Lest any should say that [you all been baptized[v_aor.pas.ind.2.pl.] [into[eis] my name.

1Cor 1:13
Christ has been divided? no. Paul was crucified for you? no. Or were you all been baptized into the name of Paul? no.

Rom 6:3 Or
you are unknowing that as many as we are, [we were baptized[v_aor.pas.ind.1.pl.] [into[eis] Christ
Jesus, [we were baptized[v_aor.pas.ind.1.pl.] [into[eis] his death.
