IN TODAY’S EDITION

After an Islamic terror attack in Barcelona, CNN dares to compare it to Charlottesville.
There was no collusion between Trump and Putin. The CIA says so.
Aborting Down syndrome kids isn’t the same as eradicating Down syndrome.
Daily Features: Top Headlines, Cartoons, Columnists and Short Cuts.

THE FOUNDATION

“The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government.” —Thomas Jefferson (1809)

TOP RIGHT HOOKS

CNN: ‘Say, Islamic Terrorists Just Copied White Racists’1

Europe experienced yet another outrageous terror attack on Thursday — and again it was carried out by suspected Islamic terrorists who drove a van into a crowd of pedestrians, killing 13 and injuring more than 50 others in Barcelona, Spain. Clearly, plowing vehicles into crowds is the new Islamist terror tactic of choice. This attack comes only five days after the Charlottesville riot where a young woman was killed when a white supremacist rammed his car into a crowd of protesters.

So we’re not surprised that this was CNN’s “in-depth reporting” on the Spain terror attack: Correspondent Jim Sciutto said, “In light of the uproar of the last several days, five days apart you have a white supremacist in Charlottesville use a vehicle to kill, and here you have attackers at least following the modus operandi of terrorists using vehicles apparently to kill as well, and those shared tactics that should be alarming.” Anchor Wolf Blitzer, rather than questioning Sciutto’s obviously faulty and ridiculous assertion, chose instead to reinforce the flawed connection, responding, “Yeah, there will be questions about copycats. There will be questions about what happened in Barcelona. Was it at all, at all a copycat version of what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia? … They used the same killing device, a vehicle.”

Clearly CNN has an agenda to connect2 the murderous act of a white supremacist with the terrorist attack of suspected Islamic terrorists. But it’s utterly ridiculous to suggest that those who perpetrated the terror attack in Barcelona were inspired by the Charlottesville attack. The idea that the use of a vehicle as a murder weapon is somehow a novel concept first seen in Charlottesville is flat-out absurd. What of Nice, France, or London, England? Barcelona is the eighth such vehicular attack in Europe in 2017 alone.

But CNN’s fake news commentary wasn’t limited to its reporting on the Spain terror attack. Earlier in the week CNN published a dubious map of “hate groups” in the U.S. We say dubious because CNN relied on the grossly biased and left-leaning Southern Poverty Law Center3 for its listing of such “hate groups.” The SPLC profits handsomely from its efforts, including a $1 million donation4 from Apple just this week. But however well-intentioned the organization began, it’s now little more than a left-wing hate group itself. Its listing wrongly classifies several conservative groups as hate groups simply because their political positions aren’t leftist-approved. With alt-leftist hate groups like antifa5 justifying violence against those they claim promote hate, CNN has put conservatives at risk6. At CNN, it’s less about reporting the news and more about promoting leftist propaganda.

Publisher’s Note: August Break Next Week

Fortunately, Congress has adjourned for its August recess, though the din of the Beltway Demo/Leftmedia rancor7 will take no holiday. Because The Patriot Post team operates on a very tight budget, both in terms of manpower and financial resources, our content and quality would suffer if we were a man-down during the year while providing our editors and staff a week off with their families. Thus, as they all need a break from the rigors of relentless publishing deadlines, we pause our operations for a week in August.

Of course, our Top Headlines8 and Right Opinion9 sections will be updated throughout the coming week. Our Patriot Humor edition will be delivered on schedule Monday, and you’ll hear from Mark Alexander next Wednesday. (If you’re not subscribed to Patriot Humor or Alexander’s Column, log in to your account10 and select those options.) We’ll be back on the regular publication schedule on Monday, Aug. 28.

Busted: CIA Refutes Demo/MSM Collusion About Collusion11

By Mark Alexander

According to Daniel Hoffman, former CIA Station Chief in Moscow from 2012-2017, there is no evidence of collusion between Donald Trump12 and Vladimir Putin — as we have asserted repeatedly13.

Hoffman told NPR14, “Overall I haven’t seen any evidence of anyone actually colluding with the Russians — of Russian intelligence colluding with a campaign to cause harm to another.”

In his New York Times op-ed, “It Wasn’t About Collusion15,” Hoffman says Putin deliberately left a trail of breadcrumbs from Trump Tower to the Kremlin.

On the meeting with Trump Jr.16, Hoffman says, “It pointed to a discoverable influence operation rather than some effort to establish a clandestine channel for collusion.”

Hoffman told CNN, “I think the evidence from that meeting points to an effort by the Kremlin to influence rather than some sort of a covert back channel for collusion. Vladimir Putin wants to soil our democratic institutions, and I think he found the best way to do that would be to tie us to the Kremlin.”

In other words, as we have also repeatedly argued, the whole “Trump/Putin collusion” charade has been propagated by the Demo/MSM propaganda machine7 to undermine the legitimacy17 of Trump’s election.

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS
The ‘Brave New World’ of Down Syndrome Eugenics32

By Brian Mark Weber

In the novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, readers are presented with a dystopian vision of the future in which the whole process of conception and birth is delegated to the scientific community. Parents have no emotional connection to their children, and motherhood itself is considered embarrassing and obscene.

The novel, written in 1931, seemed far-fetched at the time. Yet it wasn’t long after Huxley penned his dark and frightening tale that science and politics began to consider the implications, and the possibilities, of playing God with human reproduction in order to bring about desired results.

Columnist David Harsanyi writes33, “[‘Negative selection’ eugenics] was the rationalization behind the coerced sterilization of thousands of mentally ill, poor, and minorities here in America. It is why real-life Nazis required doctors to register all newborns born with Down syndrome. And the first humans they gassed were children under three years old with ‘serious hereditary diseases’ like Down syndrome.”

But why wait? Aborting unborn children with Down syndrome is gaining acceptance once again, and the latest wave of news is from Iceland. Yet the child’s suffering or the elimination of a human life doesn’t seem to be part of the conversation, nor does the post-abortion health of the mother.

What’s interesting is that, according34 to Kevin Burke in the Washington Examiner, “About 80 percent of parents facing the same diagnosis, who were provided with the option of perinatal hospice care for the child and family, chose to carry their disabled child to term.” Apparently, most parents planning to abort their children don’t receive this advice.

Burke adds, “Those who advocate for routine screening to detect fetal disabilities also fail to advise parents of the potential for serious post-abortion reactions. The fallout from this loss can place a tremendous strain on couples as they struggle with the shock and pain that can follow the abortion. Some abortion advocates may concede that some women suffer symptoms of depression and grief immediately after termination of disabled babies, but they see this as a short-term condition. Research, however, confirms that women often suffer symptoms of emotional trauma and complicated grief years after such procedures.”

Sadly, and just like the people in “Brave New World,” Icelanders no longer seem to value human life. Parents who fail to think of their unborn child as human are less likely to keep their child when the options are presented to them.

As Helga Sol Olafsdottir, a counselor at Landspitali University Hospital, helpfully explains35, “We don’t look at abortion as a murder. We look at it as a thing that we ended. We ended a possible life that may have had a huge complication … preventing suffering for the child and for the family.”

A thing? If children are considered “things,” then it can’t be long before countries like Iceland start passing their own version of Nazi Germany’s Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring.

While those on the Left may rush to defend a program that frees parents from the burden of raising a disabled child, they should seriously think about the implications of going down this path.

The situation is not much better in the United States, where nearly two-thirds of American women whose prenatal screening tests reveal Down syndrome choose to have an abortion. Fortunately, there’s still some resistance at the political level.

Harsanyi notes, “A number of U.S. states have passed or want to pass laws that would ban abortions sought due to fetal genetic abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, or because of the race, sex, or ethnicity of a fetus. Such a U.S. House bill failed in 2012. Most Democrats involved claimed to be against sex-selective abortion, but not one gave a reason why. Probably because once you admit that these theoretical choices equate to real-life consequences, like eugenics, you are conceding that these are lives we’re talking about, not blobs.”

And what if science develops to the point where we can identify other traits in humanity that parents may find undesirable: a genetic heart condition or a low IQ — or, where it would really hit home for leftists, homosexuality? Gender-based abortions of girls are already the norm in Communist China. When society reaches the point where only desirable children are allowed to enter this world, are we still a civilization? And if a free society lacks the moral compass to speak out against this practice, how can we oppose another government that one day might decide that Jews, Africans or Christians are a “problem”?

These are the questions that should be asked before science allows us to discover even more “undesirable” traits in unborn children, and before the political class yields to social and cultural decay. Let’s face it: We’re living in a Brave New World today. But unlike the society in Huxley’s novel, we must summon the courage and decency to end the ghastly practice of eugenics.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Ken Blackwell: “One wonders if even Abraham Lincoln is safe from the Left. He spent much of his career favoring colonization, that is, sending freed slaves back to Africa. Worse, as he famously wrote Horace Greeley, ‘If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it.’ Why honor a man who really didn’t want to free the slaves? Perhaps America’s Founders also should be dumped into history’s wastebasket. Many were slave owners. Their attitudes toward women and Native Americans were unenlightened. After just a couple of generations, U.S. leaders conducted brutal campaigns against the continent’s original occupants and an aggressive war against America’s neighbor, Mexico. More recently elected officials fail new tests centered around social liberalism too. Measured by the Left’s standards, even President Barack Obama was dilatory in backing same-sex marriage. So why build any monuments to him? We need a statute of limitations on expecting historical figures to be perfect and prosecuting them for thought crimes.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “When we lose the right to be different, we lose the privilege to be free.” —Justice Charles Evans Hughes (1862-1948.)

Upright: “Don’t be deceived into believing that the anti-Trump angst factories on the Left are only about Trump. To be sure, these leftists hate Trump with a white-hot passion, but their primary goal is to thwart, suppress and ultimately silence political conservatism. It is to reinvigorate Barack Obama’s failed progressive agenda by any means necessary.” —David Limbaugh

For the record: “Fighting Nazis is a good thing, but fighting Nazis doesn’t necessarily make you or your cause good. By my lights this is simply an obvious fact. The greatest Nazi-killer of the 20th century was Josef Stalin. He also killed millions of his own people and terrorized, oppressed, enslaved or brutalized tens of millions more. The fact that he killed Nazis during WWII (out of self-preservation, not principle) doesn’t dilute his evil one bit.” —Jonah Goldberg

Village Idiots: “I can’t stand for the national anthem. I can’t stand right now. I’m not going to be standing until I see the equality and freedom.” —NFL player Michael Bennett

Blind squirrel finds a nut: “I do think there is a sort of confirmation bias that some media outlets feed and it does trouble me… Obama said things that weren’t true and got away with it more for a variety of reasons, and one is the media was much more supportive of him. The Obama White House thought I was self-righteous and a huge pain in the ass.” —CNN’s Jake Tapper

Alpha Jackass: “I hope Trump is assassinated!” —Missouri state senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal

Braying Jackass: “Let’s blow up Mount Rushmore.” —VICE magazine

Belly laugh of the week: “There are limits to free speech. You can’t speak more than 24 hours per day, for instance.” —Frank Fleming

And last… “Since Charlottesville 11 people killed and 40 wounded in Chicago, 5 killed in Baltimore, but at least the left can argue over statues.” —Newt Gingrich
