My Army Basic was July, 1967, at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and it was 150 Degrees (F) in the shade at 0200 A.M. The first thing they did was indoctrinate us on all of the poisonous snakes we would likely see before morning.
(Small Print - I might have exaggerated some about the temperature - BUT not the snakes.)
B-4-2 Up Tight and Outa Sight Drill Sergeant!
We saw the swimming pools that the recruiter promised, but we never got to use them. It was a wonderful place, and I think that we ran through every swamp within 50 miles. BUT, we loved it and wanted more PT, and the Drill Sergeant was happy to oblige.
