 Grin

My Army Basic was July, 1967, at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and it was 150 Degrees (F) in the shade at 0200 A.M. The first thing they did was indoctrinate us on all of the poisonous snakes we would likely see before morning.   Grin  (Small Print - I might have exaggerated some about the temperature - BUT not the snakes.)

B-4-2  Up Tight and Outa Sight Drill Sergeant!

We saw the swimming pools that the recruiter promised, but we never got to use them. It was a wonderful place, and I think that we ran through every swamp within 50 miles. BUT, we loved it and wanted more PT, and the Drill Sergeant was happy to oblige.   Grin

One thing I loved about basic was how the TI (training Instructor) kept telling us that we were lower than whale manure.  Grin In Alabama during the last half of my basic I was persecuted by the sergeant for being a Christian.

We hardly ever saw our Company Commander. He was an E-6 that was going to retire shortly after we our basic training was finished. A short-timer with a real short-timer attitude.

Heh, my TI was a little californian who looked like a chiwawa (sp) He was llike 5'5 and had to look up to see us.  He was our chow runner the last night of basic because we got 0 demerits on parade. So we had a good time after that. We had about 10 people got recycled...we started with 42 and closed out with 32. It was nuts. But our TI was nuts, but we respected him and he was cool. I'm in Miss. now, and will be headed to Germany when i finish up here. Things are alot more relaxed here, and i'm half way through with stuff here. Smiley Yay. Anyways, got laundry and other stuff to do, seeing as tomorrow is back to the work week. Laterz.

YEAH Joshua!

CONGRATULATIONS!

It sounds like things are going good for you, and I'm happy to hear from you. You are in our prayers. It sounds like you got a good duty assignment, one that I hope you will enjoy. The adventure begins.

Ref. your TI, they're supposed to be a little bit nuts.   Grin  You would have been short-changed if your TI was completely sane. Take care and have fun. You will be in our prayers.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Another congratulations brother. Germany is a pretty good tour of duty. Many people try to get assigned there and never make it.

5' 5" you got a toughy (nuts) then. Us short ones have to be the nutty ones in order to make it.

Congrats brother

Good job on the basic.  And keep up the good work in the school.

Germany is nice, I spent one night there and by what I saw it was pretty, the people were nice.  I do not remember how to ask where the bathroom is...but oh well, people generally figure out what you are asking for by the time your legs cross and you start to wince Smiley
