Muslims benefiting from double standard, says Christian law firm

The chief counsel of a Christian law firm says it is becoming increasingly apparent that there is a double standard when it comes to accommodating religious practices at public schools and universities.

USA Today recently reported that some public schools and universities are granting Muslims' requests for prayer times, prayer rooms, and ritual footbaths. Richard Thompson, chief counsel for the Thomas More Law Center, cites one example -- Carver Elementary School in San Diego, where he says officials created an extra recess to accommodate Islamic prayers.

"Muslim students were allowed to go into this room, the door was locked, and a Muslim teacher led the students in prayer," says Thompson. "The Supreme Court of the United States -- in case after case [over] the last 50 years -- has forbidden those kinds of activities for Christians."

Ironically, the legal group filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against San Diego's Poway Unified School District in May after school officials ordered a veteran teacher of 30 years to remove from his classroom walls banners they said promoted a "Judeo-Christian" viewpoint. Carver Elementary is not in the Poway District.

Thompson says at places like the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Muslim students have also been given preferential treatment. He says it is all part of a concerted effort to force everybody else to accept their religion.

According to Thompson, Muslims are interested in ultimately creating an Islamic state. "They said even ten years ago, we are not here in America to be equal with other religions. We are here to make Islam dominate and have an Islamic country in this nation," he says.

The Thomas More Law Center hopes to file lawsuits in both the Carver Elementary School and University of Michigan-Dearborn cases.

That's scary.  I have read the same thing said by a couple of Middle Eastern Muslims in an Islamic forum.  Hopefully, our gov't will wise up to all of this and handle this situation better.
