Center for Christian Statesmanship reopens on Capitol Hill
The Center for Christian Statesmanship has reopened on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, just two weeks after being shut down by Coral Ridge Ministries. The center, which focused for more than a decade on interpersonal evangelism and discipleship outreach on Capitol Hill, will reopen under the ministry of Evangelism Explosion.
Pastor John Sorensen, executive vice president of Evangelism Explosion International, says the need for a strong, Christian influence in America's capital is critical.
The Center for Christian Statesmanship "doesn't have a political agenda at all," Sorenson asserts. "All that happens in Washington through the center is ministry to the members of the House and the Senate and their staff and the interns that come into Washington, DC, every summertime," he says, "so all of the outreach events of the center are geared toward evangelism, discipleship, and the raising up of young men and women who will be Christian statesmen."
The Center for Christian Statesmanship will now be able to continue its essential work, the pastor points out. "We had a number of the members of Congress call us and tell us how important it was that this center continue," he notes.
"In fact, several made this comment to me," Sorenson adds. "They said, 'There isn't another ministry that we're aware of that ministers to us without any political agenda whatsoever.'"
The executive director of the newly reopened center will be an unpaid missionary on Capitol Hill, George Roller. He will raise his own support, just as all other missionaries with Evangelism Explosion do.
