Iran Wants to Negotiate with America's 'Alternate President'...

A top MP said on Friday the Tehran parliament would favour talks with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) after her controversial visit to Iran's ally
Syria, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

"We are ready for talks with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi," said Mohammad Nabi Rudaki, deputy head of the influential national security commission in Iran's conservative-dominated parliament.

"Parliamentary talks can discuss bilateral problems and bring US, European and Iranian nations closer. They could also consider Iran's peaceful nuclear issues," he said.

But Rudaki added that "this willingness does not mean a resumption of political ties with the occupying and bullying US government."

Pelosi's office said on Wednesday she had no intention of visiting
Iran after a top US lawmaker signalled she might be interested in doing so.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos (news, bio, voting record) said after accompanying Pelosi to Damascus to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad amid stiff White House opposition that he had tried for more than 10 years to get a visa for Iran.

Tehran and Washington have had no diplomatic ties since Islamist revolutionaries raided the US embassy in Iran in 1979 and held staff hostage for 444 days.

The US is spearheading an international campaign to thwart Iran enriching uranium, which it alleges to be a cover for weapons development. Tehran denies the charges, saying its nuclear programme is for purely peaceful purposes.

Saudi Paper: Pelosi is the 'Alternate President'

At the Saudi Gazette, here’s an editorial published shortly after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the House of Saud: The Alternate President.

Quote
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reminds us of the ambitious office worker who is surrounded by dunderheads who can’t or won’t get the job done. So she rolls up her sleeves and says for all the world to hear: “Well, it looks like I’ll have to do it myself.’

Pelosi, the rabble-rousing Democratic leader – or better yet the Alternate President – apparently has decided that President George Bush’s refusal to sit down and negotiate with Syria and Iran is just plain silly. If we are going to inch closer towards peace in Iraq, slow down Iran’s nuclear ambitions and create a stable region, perhaps folding our arms across our chests and frowning is not the right approach.

Alternate President Huh

There is no such thing as an "Alternate President" in the Uited States. Specified by the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. Vice President of the United States, President of the Senate Richard "Dick" Cheney is before Nancy Pelosi. In fact, Nancy Pelosi maybe guilty of treason, by her actions, in Syria.

That is true but it is a satiric title given to her because of her attitudes, statements and actions.
