Romania keen to expand trade ties with Iran
Arak, Markazi prov, Sept 23, IRNA

Romania-Trade-Iran
Romanian Commercial Attache in Tehran Mircea Bonca in a meeting with members of the Chamber of Commerce and a number of tradesmen of the city here Saturday, called for expansion of bilateral relations.

He said that given the high potential of Markazi province in the agriculture, industry and tourism sectors, his country is willing to broaden trade and economic relations with it.

Bonca put the value of the intermediary products annually produced in Romania at 11 million dollars and the relevant per capita income at 5,000 euros.

Turning to the high investment security in his country, he said that Iranian tradesmen, including those from Markazi province, can establish relations in the required fields.

"The Iranian market has the potential for investment in industrial and agricultural sectors, which is of special interest to Romania.

"Last year, Romania exchanged 1,193,000 dollars worth of goods with other countries," he added.

For his part, Head of Arak Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines Saeed Gorgbandi said that Romania's trade cooperation with Iran mostly centered on joint economic commission meeting, specialized talks on the project of gas transfer to Europe, transport, chambers of commerce, exhibitions, banking as well as trade, agricultural, industrial and mines exchanges.

He put the value of exchanges between the two sides at 131 million dollars, out of which 9.6 million dollars account for export of Iranian goods to Romania.

"Given the provincial high potential in the fields of industry and mine, agriculture and food industry as well as Romania's readiness for joining world trade, he said that the Romanian tradesmen can broaden trade ties with Markazi province," he added.

Romania is situated to the southeast of Europe and north of the Balkan Peninsula. It has an area of 237,500 square kilometers and a population of 21,698,000.

Romania is cooperating closely with Iran in the field of oil and gas equipment, automobile manufacturing, electrical industry, dam building, cement production factory, petrochemical industry, plastics, foodstuff, mines and production of masts.

The major Iranian products exported to Romania in 2005 include iron, steel, copper and aluminum products, minerals, electrical appliances and machinery, wood pulp and paper, chemicals as well as rail and auto parts.
