ROOTED AND BUILT UP IN CHRIST
By HARLAND L. SHRIVER,
Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:6, 7
Without a doubt Col. 2:7 figures not to be something the believer does for himself, but finds as a direct result of walking with the Lord. Many people wonder how they might be built up in the most holy faith. How may we?
Being built up in the faith, or being 'rooted and grounded' results directly from the application of God's Word to our hearts. Since faith (instilled faith) comes from the Word of God, and that by hearing in our hearts, growth is commensurate and in proportion to our divine appetites. How much do we, as David, 'find' God's Word, and by it eat, and thus it becomes the joy and rejoicing of our hearts? That is the question.
Rather than complain of the lack of wealth today among God's people, let us become a committee of one to methodically, patiently and prayerfully instill God's Word in hungry hearts. Does this not bear the image of God's requirement as seen in II Tim. 2:2, viz: "teach others also"? What greater calling can the child of God exhibit than that! Then ... one shall indicate how rooted and built up, one is in Christ.

THE ETERNAL PURPOSE IN CHRIST
By Donald Weffald
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 3:11
"Who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the Church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:9b-11).
Here we are told by the Apostle Paul that the Church is part of the "eternal purpose" of God. Although the Church is subject of the "mystery" that had been "hid in God (Ephesians 3:9) and "in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men" (Eph. 3:5), it definitely was not afterthought. It is part of the grand plan "purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:11). Purposed in the Greek is poieo and means "to do (Lat. ago), i.e. to follow some method in expressing by deeds the feelings and thoughts of the mind" (Thayer). God had it in mind all along. God always does things with a purpose..
The Church is now making known the "manifold wisdom of God" to "the principalities and powers in heavenly places" (Ephesians 3:10). This is the Godward side of the wonderful truth of the dispensation of the mystery. What God is do now through the Church is displaying His wonderful wisdom to the angelic beings. And look at what He has done through Christ! He has taken ruined sinners and made them saints (Ephesians I:1). "In whom (Christ) also we (the Church) have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Ephesians 1:11).

THE LOVE OF GOD IN CHRIST
By Pastor Floyd Baker
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:39
In our premarital counseling we spend a great deal of time in Ephesians chapter five looking at the responsibility of the wife and the husband to each other in the marriage. One of the most difficult instructions we find is when the wife is told "submit yourself unto your own husband, as unto the Lord." What we point out to the husband to be, is that the wife "needs" the security of his love. That is why we see that the husband is "to love his wife as Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it." There is security in love!
What blessed security the child of God has in God's love. This is why Paul could write, "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the LOVE OF GOD which is IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD" (Romans 8:38, 39). How needful it is for us to realize that God has our welfare in mind in all that He does and allows in our lives. This is the reality of Romans 8:28.
We have the confidence that in death, absent from the body is at home with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). But what about life, when things appear to go wrong? Yes, Paul declares that not even life with all of its problems and difficulties will remove us out of God's love. This love as we note is "in Christ Jesus," and we are in Him for time and eternity. How wonderful for us to rest in that love, and to enjoy it each day. May we too be "persuaded" of the wonderful love of God.

~Daily Inspirational ~ LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OCT.23, 2006
LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS
By Pastor Dick Ware
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:2
"Life in Christ" is the answer for a Christian who is having the "Romans 7 experience." The Christian in Romans 7 has a God given desire to live for the Lord; but is having a dead Christian experience because the "indwelling" sin nature is still "present," and is overthrowing him (7:18-21). He is also trying to get deliverance by obeying "The Mosaic Law," but it is stimulating the sin nature (7:5). He comes to realize that the sin nature is connected to his physical body, and he is crying for deliverance (7:23, 24). The answer to his cry is found in our verse for consideration: "For ----The Law of the Spirit of Life---in Christ Jesus---has made me FREE from---The Law on sin and Death!"
The new-found position "in Christ Jesus," brings with it "The Law of the Spirit of Life." This "life" is ours because we are "in Christ Jesus," and it is applied to us by the Spirit of God. As a "law of life," it is an established rule; and it works itself out in a body of rules found in the Pauline Epistles for the Body of Christ. It is alluded to in: I Corinthians 9:21; 14:37,38; and in Galatians 6:2.
"The Law of the Spirit of Life---In Christ Jesus," produces "God's life" in our spirits. When we obey it in our spirits, it will even "give life" for God's service to our mortal bodies (Rom. 8: 11). These bodies that have been used to serve sinful desires, the Devil, and the world system; can now be used for God's service! This is possible because of "The Law of the Spirit of Life" that is ours "in Christ Jesus"! Therefore, it is only reasonable that we be "transformed by the renewing of our minds," and that we "give our bodies to God" (Rom. 12: I, 2)!

REDEMPTION IN CHRIST

~Daily Inspirational ~ REDEMPTION IN CHRIST OCT.24, 2006
REDEMPTION IN CHRIST
By Dick Johnson
Scripture Reading: Romans 3:24
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:23, 24).
Prior to salvation, everyone is dead in trespasses and sin and by nature the children of wrath (Ephesians 2: I, 3). In this condition, the future holds only judgment and eternal punishment. However, God provided a remedy for our sin and its outcome by sending His Son to be a substitutionary sacrifice on our behalf (Romans 3:25). He paid the penalty for our sin and, therefore, redeemed or rescued us from our need to pay the penalty.
We truly have been bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20). By shedding His blood, our Saviour paid the greatest price possible, and yet paid the only price that could meet God's requirement for righteousness. We have redemption through the blood of Christ, the forgiveness of our sins according to the riches of God's grace (Ephesians 1:7). As a result of this demonstration of righteousness, we have received the gift of righteousness (Romans 5:17).
By God's grace, Christ's death was our death, and His resurrection was our resurrection. God has made us alive together in Christ and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:5, 6). This position is true for everyone who believes the gospel of our salvation (Romans 3:22; 5:8-10; I Corinthians 15: 1-4).
What should be our response to our redemption in Christ? Does our freedom from the penalty of sin give us a license to sin? God forbid! (Romans 6:1-11). On the contrary, our response should be to glorify God in our body, presenting it as a living and holy sacrifice (Romans 6:13; 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:20).

ONE BODY IN CHRIST

~Daily Inspirational ~ ONE BODY IN CHRIST OCT.25, 2006
ONE BODY IN CHRIST
By Pastor Ivan Burgener
Scripture Reading: Romans 12:5
One Body - the first and only time this is mentioned in all of Romans. The setting is a practical one where Paul, having finished the doctrinal portion of the letter, now turns to telling just how all the great truths of justification and redemption effect the life of the believer. Not only is he "in Christ," but so also is every other believer. This makes us all one in Christ - one Body in Christ, to be exact---and this has many practical consequences.
Service to the whole Body is service to Christ since the Body is one and made up of the many members. Since this Body has Christ as it's Head, Christ is served when the members are served and the whole Body benefits! The illustration of the human body is too good to miss---or did God perhaps have that in mind a long time before? In any case, just as the many members of any body do not all do the same thing, neither do we as members of Christ's Body. Sometimes we lose sight of this great practical fact and spiritual truth. Any time we are wishing we were fitted differently so we could perform a different function in the Body, we are at that same time implying that God made a mistake. He really should have fitted us for other service. We don't really mean to say so, but might not that actually be the case? We should think soberly about this whole matter, for God is the one who has dealt to each of us our own special capability to serve as He has seen fit.
On the other hand, God may have fitted us to serve and we are too slow to realize it. With His help and prayerful exercise, we should venture out to see how the Lord might use us. And as with natural talents, exercise brings development beyond expectations!

~Daily Inspirational ~ THE TRUTH IN CHRIST OCT.26, 2006
THE TRUTH IN CHRIST
By Ralph Balog
Scripture Reading: Romans 9: I
How wonderful it would be if every member of the Body of Christ could state: "I say the truth in Christ!" What a unified message of grace would be proclaimed to a lost and dying world. Paul speaks, in our text verse, from a heavy heart. He had to defend his Gentile ministry everywhere he went. And now from the extreme depths of his compassionate heart comes the call to "hear what I say," because "I speak the truth in Christ." None of the Jewish Kingdom apostles ever had to defend their message and ministry in such fashion.
Paul wanted the Romans to know not only his love for them, but also for "my kinsmen according to the flesh" (vs. 3). He knew what Israel, nationally, was deliberately passing up ---"truth in Christ"---to follow the traditions of the early fathers.
In 1984 it is not "truth in Christ" to proclaim the earthly ministry and message of Christ as "good news" for sinners today. What was once truth can now be false teaching in the light of new revelations from the glorified Lord Jesus Christ given to and through the Apostle Paul. Though for all intents the Body of Christ today is predominantly Gentile, we, too, know that through Israel's fall we are now made near to God by the blood of Christ. When we speak "the truth in Christ," we too can claim our conscience will bear witness with the Holy Spirit and His written Word, rightly divided.
May we never lose sight of Paul's burden for those outside of Christ. We too were there once and God's grace is sufficient to save those not yet in the Body of Christ.

HIS PROMISE IN CHRIST

~Daily Inspirational ~ HIS PROMISE IN CHRIST OCT.28, 2006
HIS PROMISE IN CHRIST
By Donald Webb
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 3:6
Ephesians 3:6 might be better understood if stated thus: "That the Gentiles should be joint heirs, and a joint body, and joint partakers of His promise in Christ by the gospel." This verse is actually answering the question "what is the mystery?" What is the mystery or secret (verses 3 and 4) which was not made known in other ages (verse 5) but now made known by revelation to Paul (verses 3 and 5)? It is that the Gentiles should be joint heirs, a joint body, and joint partakers of God's promise! We might ask "joint with whom?" With the Jew (2:11-18)! We would further ask "joint in what?" Joint in a new heavenly organism, the Body of Christ. The secret is that in this hitherto unprophesied age of grace believing Jews and Greeks are now reconciled into one new man---a joint body---by the cross (2:15,16). Israel and her kingdom program have been set aside and now our greater commission is to "make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery" (Ephesians 3:9)!
But what are we joint heirs to? We're joint heirs to inherit the salvation of God (2:5-10). Next we're a joint body, that is that any man, without national distinction, upon believing the gospel is placed into this new organism---the Body of Christ (I Corinthians 12:13). Finally, we're joint partakers of His promise in Christ by the gospel. What is His promise in Christ? It is the divine principle which God promised before the world began but did not fully reveal until Paul, that of eternal life in Christ for all (Jews or Greeks) who believe the gospel (Titus 1:2; 3:4-7). This promise is centered in Christ i.e., the finished work he accomplished on Calvary's cross. It is assured by God's own faithfulness to His immutable counsel and oath. It is received through believing the gospel of grace. How wonderful to know and proclaim the secret!

TRIUMPH IN CHRIST
By Dick Johnson
Scripture Reading: II Corinthians 2:14
We have no right or excuse, as members of the Body of Christ, to hide behind our faith and stand silent and ashamed in the face of adversity. God gave us victory over sin and death because of the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ at the cross (I Corinthians 15:57). In fact, by being one with Christ, we are sustained by the power of our Lord's resurrection (Ephesians 1:19, 20).
In the context of our passage, the Apostle Paul knew that he and his co-workers were being led in triumph in Christ by faithfully speaking in Christ in the sight of God. He was experiencing the victory and power of the resurrection.
Can we make the same claim as Paul? Yes, at least in terms of our position in Christ. By God's grace, we indeed have the victory in Christ and we are ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor. 5:20). We know for certain that He who began a good work in us will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).
However, God wants us to experience the glories of our position in Christ. Since we are ambassadors for Christ, let us live as ambassadors. Since we are light in the Lord, let us walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8). Since we have the power of the resurrection, let us be strong in the Lord (Ephesians 6:10). Since we are saved, let us take hold of the eternal life to which we were called and fight the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12). We can know the joy of being led in triumph in Christ!

~Daily Inspirational ~ HOPE IN CHRIST OCT.30, 2006
HOPE IN CHRIST
By Pastor D. Bekemeyer
Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 15:19
It has been said, "Even if there was nothing beyond this life, I would have no regrets that I lived for the Lord Jesus." While such a statement may sound noble, it can only be made with disregard for our text which says, "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." Please notice two things concerning the truth of this verse.
First, notice that we do have hope in Christ during this life. But on what is our hope based? Evidence that demands a verdict? Archaeological discoveries? Personal experience? No! Our hope is based on what God's Word says about Christ. In this life, we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7) and with our eyes of faith, we look on that which is not seen (2 Corinthians 4:17). Because of this, we know that our lives have purpose and meaning. We run with certainty and we fight successfully (I Cor. 9:26).
Second, notice that we do have hope in Christ beyond this life. What if we suddenly realized that there is nothing beyond what we now have? Everything would change. As believers in Christ, our plight would be the most miserable of all who are in the world. Our belief would be in vain, our labor unrewarded and our eternal destiny insecure. After death, anything could happen.
Our hope depends on the Lord Jesus Christ being all that He claims to be. Praise God, we need not doubt that!

PERFECT IN CHRIST

PERFECT IN CHRIST
By Pastor Floyd Baker
Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:28
"To whom (His saints vs. 26) God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory WHOM WE PREACH, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present EVERY MAN PERFECT IN CHRIST JESUS: whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily." Along with this we read in Ephesians 4:13, "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a PERFECT man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."
Many times 1 Corinthians 13:13 is referred to and we are instructed that "love is the ultimate" in God's will for our lives. But this verse must be understood in the light of the context. Paul has been showing the transitory purpose of certain gifts such as prophecy, tongues, and knowledge and in this light love is said to abide. What we are to realize is "that which is perfect" is in view and in Colossians and Ephesians "that which is perfect" (same Greek word) is present. We do not minimize love but it has to be put into proper perspective. Love is not to be apart from the "full-knowledge" of God's truth for the administration of grace but along with it.
Notice the words Paul uses to describe his God-given instructions to present every man "perfect in Christ Jesus." "To which end also I am constantly laboring to the point of exhaustion, engaging in a contest in which I am controlled by His energy which operates in me in power" (Wuest).

~DIRECTED PRAYER~
By M. Stanford
"Be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is" (Eph. 5:17).
Prayer to God must come from God. There can, be no prayer in the full assurance of faith apart from the known will of God in the matter. "The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know His will" (Acts 2 2:14).
"I do not think that a petition that misses the mind of God will ever be answered (1 John 5:14). Personally, I feel the need of trusting Him to lead me in prayer as well as in other matters. I find it well to preface prayer not only by meditation but by the definite request that I may be directed into the channels of prayer to which the Holy Spirit is beckoning me (Rom. 8:26, 27)." - J.O.F.
"When we once have the deep, calm assurance of His will in the matter, we put in our claim, just as a child before his father. A simple request and nothing more. No crying, no beseeching, no wrestling. No second asking, either." - J.O.F.
"The Lord may see it needful, for the trial (development) of faith, to seem for a season not to regard out supplications; yet, if we patiently and believingly continue to wait upon Him, it will be manifest in His own time, and way, that we did not call upon Him in vain." - G.M.
"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him" (Ps. 62:5).

~TYRANNY OF SIN~

~Daily Inspirational~ ~TYRANNY OF SIN~ JANUARY 6, 2006
~TYRANNY OF SIN~
"You were set free from the tyranny of Sin" (Rom. 6:18, Wey.).
The tyranny of sin over the lost necessitated the death of the Lord Jesus on the Cross. The tyranny of sin over the saved necessitated the death of the believer in the Lord Jesus on that same Cross. The dual truths of Calvary: His death for our sin, as payment; our death with Him unto sin, for deliverance.
"The believer sees that Christ by dying for him has completely delivered him from the penalty of sin. So it is his privilege to see that because he is identified with the Lord Jesus in that death, he is also delivered from sin as a ruling principle. Its power is broken. He is in that sense 'free from sin' (Rom. 6:18, 22)." - E.H.
"Through my life-union with Christ in His death and resurrection, 1 have 'died to sin' His death to sin is my death to sin. In my very humanity Christ so took me up with Himself in death that, when He died unto sin, I too was executed and there died to sin's reign and power. Has Christ so dealt with sin that He has exhausted its every claim and dominion? And do I share with Him His death unto sin? With bold and explicit reckoning, then, let me count on my death-resurrection relationship to God through the Lord Jesus. In Christ crucified I have been discharged from sin's domination." - L.E.M.
"When victory does not tend to worship, we and God part company, so to speak, as soon as the victory is achieved. How sad to see victory often leading to mere joy, instead of still greater dependence on, and delight in, God!" - J.N.D.
"But now, being freed from the bondage of sin. . . your fruit is growth in holiness" (Rom. 6:22, Cony.).

A DIVIDED HEART

~Daily Inspirational~ ~A DIVIDED HEART~ JANUARY 30, 2006
HOSEA 10:2
"Their heart is divided;
now shall they be found faulty:
he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images."
***********
A DIVIDED HEART
"Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty " These words remind me of Hebrews 8:8 where it says "for finding fault with them, he said, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel "
What was Israel's divided heart? It was that they were not true to God's Law but broke it in idolatry! They went whoring after other Gods. They forsook the God of Israel and were continually showing their breach of the Covenant of the Law. God in His long-suffering allowed Israel again and again to manifest their failure under the First Covenant because He was going to prove them to need a Savior who would mediate a better Covenant.
Finally, in Acts 7:53, the dispensation of law came to a dramatic close as Stephen full of the Holy Spirit, declared to Israel "who have received the Law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it!" Thus it is here, dispensationally speaking, "...that where sin abounded (under the Law) GRACE superabounded" (Rom. 5:20). Yes, indeed, God found fault with them in their divided heart, but that just showed them to be sinners like all the rest of us! God has effectively shown ALL (Jew and Greek) under sin that He might have mercy upon ALL (Romans 11:32). What is this mercy? "Christ died for our sins.was buried.....and rose again the third day....." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us..." (Galatians 3:13). "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified (declared righteous) by faith apart from the deeds of the Law" (Rom. 3:28)." "Believe oh the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved..." (Acts 16:31)

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE SON IN SALVATION

~Daily Inspirational ~ THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE SON IN SALVATION AUGUST 13, 06
THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE SON IN SALVATION
By Paul Hume
Scripture Reading: John 17:1-3; Eph. 1:7-12
It was the distinct pleasure of the Father to plan our salvation through bringing about the "Golden Chain of Redemption" (Rom. 8:28-30, Eph. 1:3-6). We say it reverently, that the Father's plan would have been powerless and ineffective had it not been for the fact that it was the role of the Son of God to purchase our salvation. Thus we read of His having been "foreordained before the foundation of the world" in relation to His suffering and sacrificial death as "a Lamb without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:18-20).
The primary mission of the Lord Jesus in His, first advent was redemptive and not regal. His second advent will be regal. He came, as Hebrews 10:7 states, "to do thy will, 0 God." That will of the Father included His drinking that awful "cup" in the garden of Gethsemane (which I believe related to His being forsaken and cut off by His Father while He was to become the sin-bearer for all mankind); it involved His suffering and deep humiliation as a malefactor both from His arrest in the garden to His agony on that Roman cross; it involved the terrible agonies which His Holy Soul suffered while the Father was laying upon Him "the iniquity of us all;" it involved His experience of death--a thing that He; the eternal Son of God, had never, ever experienced; and it involved Him being buried in a borrowed tomb--the Creator and Lord of Glory dead and buried (think of it!!).
What was all of this for? To redeem us--buy us out of the slave market--from Satan's power, sin, self, this present evil age, and the power of death itself. What wealth is packed away in those blessed words, "In Whom (Christ) we have (as a present possession) redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace" (Eph. 1:7)! With Fanny Crosby we must sing anew:
"Redeemed--how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed thro' His infinite mercy,
His child, and forever, I am."
