~Daily Inspirational ~ THE LIVING GOD NOVEMBER 17, 2006

THE LIVING GOD
by C. R. Stam

"My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God" (Psa. 42:2).

The recent "God is dead" theory had little true comfort or satisfaction for men in trouble or sorrow.

For years we supposed that the term "the living God," in the above passage, had reference to God’s power to help, in contrast to the impotence of dead heathen idols. A careful examination of the context, however, leads us to believe that it has rather to do with His ability to respond. The gods of the heathen, by contrast, were like children’s dolls; they could not even change their countenance or respond in any way.

"The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

"They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;

"They have ears, but they hear not, neither is there any breath in their mouths" (Psa. 135:15-17).

But the true God is a living God. He does see, hear and respond. The Psalmist, in Psalm 42, compares himself to a stag, panting with thirst. It is sometimes supposed that the scene is one of a stag pursued in the chase, but the passage says nothing of this. Palestine is a dry land and entirely apart from being hunted down, a deer might well pant for streams of running water.

Be this as it may, the stag, in this passage, is not seeking for help; he is thirsting for refreshment, and so did the Psalmist long for the refreshment of fellowship with God, the living God.

How wonderful it is that we may know the living God through faith in Christ! This is why the Apostle Paul declares in Heb. 10:19:

"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus... a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us through the veil, that is to say, His flesh. "

By His death at Calvary our Lord tore away the veil that kept us from entering into God’s presence, and now in response to our need He says:

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Heb. 4:16).

Yes, God is a living God!

~Daily Inspirational ~ A GODLY HERITAGE NOVEMBER 18, 2006

A GODLY HERITAGE

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:5

"Unfeigned faith" was what the Apostle Paul remembered about Timothy. In the midst of prayers for him, a desire to see him, and consciousness of his tears, the Apostle was confident that Timothy's faith was not hypocritical, but genuine.

The importance of true faith as opposed to a pretended faith can be seen in the warning about the Gospel of the Grace of God. The Lord Jesus died for our sins.  He was buried and rose from the dead.  When someone accepts the authority of the Word of God concerning this, and trusts that this was God's work for him personally, we know he has genuine faith. Only pretenders do not hold this because they have believed in vain. Read I Cor. 15: 1-4. Notice how perfectly this fits with Ephesians 6:23-24, "Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen."

While this sincere faith in Timothy obviously came from the Word of God, Grandmother Lois and Mother Eunice not only had true faith in themselves, but taught the Bible to young Timothy, "....from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures" is the key to Timothy's faith, because faith comes by the Word of God. The Lord used Lois and Eunice as the human instruments to make     Timothy wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Let us praise God for Christian parents and relatives who promote the faith of the Bible, and faith in the Saviour! It is a goodly heritage (Psalm 16:5-6).

~Daily Inspirational ~ SALVATION FROM START TO FINISH NOVEMBER 19, 2006

SALVATION FROM START TO FINISH
By HAROLD STEINBRON

Scripture Reading: II Timothy 1:9-12

"Before the World began"; that's how long ago God scheduled my life, salvation, and place in His glorious presence. Sometimes I'd worry and fret about whether I was going to make it through to next weeks pay-day! As I look back now over many years, to that concern about lasting until pay-day, I wonder, did I really believe God had known me before He made the world! I think not! It was a theory with me, I knew the Bible stated it, but it had not been reckoned SO by me. Unbelief must be a very serious insult to the One who planned my existence long before my parents were born! My God was too small!

The person who truly lays hold of the Eternal God and truly believes what these verses teach will truly thank God even when everything that could go wrong does; and at the worst possible time---and then the bottom falls out!  The peace of God that only the God of peace can bestow will bring an inner calm and freedom from turmoil that will be apparent to those about us.

Verse 12 mentions suffering "these things". One would assume that God's choice servant who wrote half our New Testament would live a trouble-free, leisurely life. Not So! "My Grace is sufficient for thee", was God's answer to Paul's request for relief from a grievous thorn in the flesh. God is apparently wanting to inform us that since He has planned our life and eternity from start to finish, we must not shrink from hardship, bodily suffering, or rejection by our fellow man. The holy calling is not unto ease, but unto faithfulness unto Him who called us.

~Daily Inspirational ~ WAITING ON GOD NOVEMBER 21, 2006

WAITING ON GOD
By Miles Stanford

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him" (Ps. 37:7).

In times of crisis, we are prone to question His care; in times of calm, we tend to forget our need of His care.

"Don't look at earthly difficulties. Saul said, 'Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not ... therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me (I Sam. 13:11,12). It is fatal to look around and at consequences, especially in times of crisis, for it will be impossible to be still, and wait God's time for deliverance. Jesus came to them in the fourth watch of the night (Matt. 14:25). It is always His way. God is never behind time! However dark the path may be, wait; do not go before Him, don't force yourself, like Saul. 'The crisis demands action,' we say! Nay, 'dwell in stillness and wait for clearness' --- wait until you are sure of the will of God, and leave the 'Philistines' to Him." --- T.A-S.

"Victory comes through the reckoning of faith and not through struggling and striving. 'But,' it may be asked, 'are we not exhorted to 'fight the good fight?' Yes, that is so, but you must please finish the text, 'Fight the good fight of faith,' and faith never struggles for victory. Faith stands in victory."

"The unbelieving heart looks at the circumstances, and leaves God out. Faith, on the contrary, looks only at God, and leaves circumstances out. Faith delights in man's extremity, simply because it is God's opportunity. It delights in being 'shut up' to God --- in having the platform thoroughly cleared of the creature, in order that God may display His glory."

"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation [is] from him." Psa. 62:5

~Daily Inspirational ~ UNITY OF DESIGN NOVEMBER 22, 2006

UNITY  OF DESIGN
By Miles Stanford

"So now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death" (Phil. 1:20).

If we look to other Christians as examples to follow, we will soon be discouraged by the prevailing low standard. If we look to Christ as our example, we will be utterly discouraged because of His infinitely high standard. Hence it is essential that we understand that the Lord Jesus Christ is our life; He is not a legal example to emulate, but the source of life from which we grow.

"It is not in any conventional standard of frames and feelings that the disciple is to find the measure of attainment required of him. It is not by any painful reproducing of another's spiritual history that he is to acquire the true comfort of spirit which he longs for. Outward imitation, though it be of the perfect Example Himself, has little place in the order of spiritual growth ---little place because little possibility. 'Without Me (i.e., apart from Me, in separation from Me) ye can do nothing.' To abide in Christ is the only secret of Christlikeness; for only thus is obtained the likeness of unity, which is perfect and enduring, instead of the likeness of conformity, which is only partial and transient." --- A.J.G.

"In the pathway of discipline and trial we learn by bitter experience the truth of Paul's confession, 'In me ... in my flesh dwelleth no good thing.' Coupled with that is the lesson that God waits with infinite patience, like the potter, to work out a design of grace and beauty with such frail material.." --- M.H.F.

"And He is the head of the body, the church; who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in all things He might have the preeminence" (Col.. 1:18).

~Daily Inspirational ~ ABIDING FAITH NOVEMBER 23, 2006

ABIDING FAITH
By Miles Stanford

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him" (Col. 2:6).

One day we came to Him in utter need and reliance, and received life. Every day we are to abide in Him in utter need and reliance, that He may live that life in and through us. We are born again by faith, and we are to live anew by faith. "He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).

"There are earnest Christians who are zealous for a free Gospel, with acceptance of Christ, and justification by faith alone. But after this they think everything depends on their diligence and faithfulness. While they firmly grasp the truth, 'justified by faith,' they have hardly noticed the larger truth, 'the just shall live by faith.' They have not yet understood what a perfect Saviour the Lord Jesus is, and how He will each day do for the sinner just as much as He did the first day when they came to Him.

"They know not that the life of grace is always and only a life of faith, and that in the relationship to the Lord Jesus the one daily and unceasing duty of the disciple is to believe, because believing is the one channel through which Divine grace and strength can flow into the heart of man. The old nature of the believer remains evil and sinful to the last; it is only as he daily comes, all empty and helpless, to his Saviour to receive of His life and strength, that he can bring forth the fruits of righteousness to the glory of God." --- A.M.

"Rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving" (Col. 2:7).

~Daily Inspirational ~ CONTINUOUS CROSS NOVEMBER 24, 2006

CONTINUOUS CROSS
By Miles Stanford

"For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake" (2 Cor. 4:11).

The indwelling Lord Jesus is the source of our life of liberation; the Cross is the means to it. As we abide in Him and He in us, we are to reckon upon the finished work of Calvary to deal progressively with self. It is on this basis alone that the life of Jesus will be manifested in our mortal flesh (2 Cor. 4:11) .

"God has taken the old creation and has condemned it in Christ, and is now working on the new creation. There is no place in the plan of God for the betterment of the old creation. He does not bring about some kind of transformation of the old man so as to produce some kind of resemblance to Christ in Christian character and conduct. There is only one place for the old creation, and that is the Cross.

"But it is not enough for us to say it is there crucified with Christ. Crucifixion was a lingering death, and while we stand once for all upon the fact of God, which is eternal and unchangeable, when our Lord Jesus Christ went to the Cross He took more than our sins with Him; He took our old man and dealt with the source of all our sin, and dealt with it satisfactorily. While we stand on that fact, there has to be the daily working out of the victory which Christ has won for us; there has to be the daily dying to this old self.. The Holy Spirit has to work into us the death of the Lord Jesus Christ in all its wonderful power and purpose." - G.W.

"Being made comfortable unto his death" (Phil. 3:10).

~Daily Inspirational ~       INDWELT TO BE FILLED        NOVEMBER 25, 2006

INDWELT TO BE FILLED
By Miles Stanford

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you" (Rom. 8:9).

The believer knows that he is indwelt by the Holy Spirit on the testimony of the written Word; others know when the believer is filled with the Holy Spirit by the growing manifestation of the Living Word.

"There are believers who need the reminder that deeper than mind and feeling and will, deeper than the soul, where these have their seat, in the depths of the renewed spirit, there comes, at rebirth, the Holy Spirit to dwell forever. His indwelling is there, first of all, and all through, to be recognized by faith. Even when I cannot see the least evidence of His working, I am quietly and reverently to believe that He dwells in me. In that faith I am rest-fully and trustfully to count upon His working, and to wait for it. In that faith I must very distinctly deny my own wisdom and strength, and in childlike self-abnegation depend upon Him to work.

"His first workings may be so feeble and hidden that I can hardly recognize them as coming from Him; they may appear to be nothing more than the voice of conscience, or the familiar sound of some Bible truth. Here is the time for faith to hold fast the Master's promise and the Father's gift, and to trust that the Holy Spirit is within and will guide. Out of the hidden depths His power will move and take possession of mind and will, and the indwelling in the hidden recesses of the spirit will grow into a being filled with His fulness." --- A.M.

"Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His" (Rom. 8:9)..

~Daily Inspirational ~     WHY DID GOD CREATE?         NOVEMBER 26, 2006

WHY DID GOD CREATE?
By Dr. Wm. Hallman

Scripture Reading: Gen.1:1; Psalms 33:1-22

In Hebrew there are just seven words in this opening sentence. They are composed of 28 letters (4x7). The subject and predicate have 14 letters each (2x7). The objects, "the heavens and the earth," have 7 letters each. Such perfection is outstanding and noteworthy. This verse also contains the five factors which are considered a manifestation of the unknowable. They are: Time - "In the beginning," Force, _ "God," Motion, - "created," Space, - "The Heavens," and Matter, - "the earth."

God created, first of all, To Declare His Pleasure. "For thy pleasure they are and were created" (Rev. 4:11). God, not only, has natural and moral attributes, but also social. There are such attributes as concord, unity, fraternity, design and beauty in His nature. So here, in creation, He displays the delights of Deity.

He also created, To Demonstrate His Power. "Great is our God, and of great power" (Ps. 147:4-5). How big is the universe? Astronomers measure distance by "Light Years." Light travels 186,000 miles a second. Multiply this by the number of seconds in a year, and one has a "Light Year." They say the nearest fixed star is some 11 light years away. "By Him all things consist" (Col. 1:17). He is the One Who upholdeth all things by His power.

Creation also Displays His Perfection. "The wondrous works of Him which is perfect in knowledge" (Job 37:16). Any part of God's universe will show forth exquisite beauty, symmetry of design, and absolute perfection. Whether it be the tiny snow flake or the unwanted dandelion flower, they are beyond man's ability to duplicate in perfection.

But, best of all, He created To Determine His Purpose. All things were created by Christ and for Him (Col. 1:16). Here creation is set in the context of redemption. Before each object of this verse (1:1) there is a particle composed of the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet. aleph and tau. Meditate on this in the light of Isa. 41:4; 44:6: Rev. 1:8,11. Yes, this verse determines His purpose in Redemption and Reconciliation.

~Daily Inspirational ~       THE CROWN OF CREATION        NOVEMBER 27, 2006

THE CROWN OF CREATION
By Dr. William Hallman

Scripture Reading: Gen. 1:26-31; 2:7; Psalm 8

Whence came man on the earth? Did he develop, through untold billions of years, from a simple form of one-celled life? Science can prove no such thing. If evolution were true it would be in continuous operation, and there would be forms of life half-way from the ape to man. How good to turn to this record, and find that this original creation presents both animals and man as coming by direct creative fiat or decree by God.

Man was created, first of all, by God's Sovereign Power. "And God said, Let us make man," ... "And the Lord God formed man. " It is Elohim, the triune God, Who in consultation, acted to create man. Here is unity of purpose, a unanimous decision made in Heaven by the Trinity to create man. What a noble thing it is to have our beginning in a direct creation from above, rather than from the scum of the pond below!

Man was also created through God's Sovereign Process. "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, .... male and female created He them. "The Image Dei, the image of God, is the chief possession of man which relates him to God. It is man alone, who like God, is self-conscious, with ability to rationalize, to create, and to make moral judgments. The "image" establishes relationship; while the "likeness" establishes similarity of character. God takes from the ground and forms a body; then breathes into this body His breath of lives. Man then comes forth as a living soul. Here he stands the crown of God's creation.

Man is created in the third place by God's Sovereign Purpose. Physically, "God made man upright" (Eccl. 7:29). The actual form that sinful man still bears (Gen. 9:6; I Cor. 11:7) was the form that God the Creator took in the person of Jesus Christ. Mentally, man had absolute power to have dominion over, and subdue the earth; also he had wisdom to name every living creature. He was also a moral being with power of choice; not a mechanical entity. Truly we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psa. 139:14). Meditate upon and rejoice in such passages as 2 Cor. 3:18; Col.3:10; Rom. 8:29.

~Daily Inspirational ~      THE BATTLE IS STRONG       NOVEMBER 28, 2006

THE BATTLE IS STRONG
By R. Edward Beauchamp

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:10-20

Since the first time that Darwin showed his manuscripts to different colleagues, knowing full well that it was a hoax and full of error, man has sought to find a way to make this joke into reality. Darwin expected ridicule and chiding but that was not the case. Men flocked to him and called him a great man of insight, a true philosopher. Thus, one of the foundations of Anti-Christianity and Atheism started to grow. The gospel according to Darwin caught on and spread into schools and quickly went from a theory to the "Law of Evolution." It is required study in our schools while prayer to God and the Bible is banned. Because evolution is a religion (Atheism and various Unitarianism's), it is used as a basis for anything contrary to all sound Biblical teaching.

Yes, our children are taught Satan's word but not allowed to hear God's Word.. Evolution saturates entertainment, toys, advertising, etc., and has created a standard that this Earth is very old. It is to be accepted that struggle, death and dying has gone on for billions of years. That is why Paul exhorts us to be prepared by putting on Christ and the armour of God: "and having done ALL (or having worked out) to stand, STAND THEREFORE "(Eph. 6:13). Man is searching for methods to find the answers to the age of this Earth. He has opted to turn his back on his own scientific proofs that this Earth is very young. As we study, we will find that the Earth is a very young planet, it has not been here for eons of time. Most substantiated and accepted scientific data sets the age of the Earth at between 6,000.and 10,000 years.

Just because a rock looks old, does not mean that it is old .. "In beginning---God" is the key. God can make the appearance of this Earth to look old to test us as to whether we will trust Him and His Word or man's empty explanations.

~Daily Inspirational ~    WHEN DID SATAN FALL - PART 1      NOVEMBER 29, 2006

WHEN DID SATAN FALL - PART 1
By Dr. William Hallman

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:11-17

Many would suppose that Satan was the cause of the failed planet Earth and therefore caused a pre-creation cataclysm. It would follow that God would have to re-create the Earth after the terrible fall and removal from prominence that Satan experienced. It is important to see where Satan is today and what is he doing. Does Satan have access to heaven today or is he barred from being in heaven?

A pre-Adamic cataclysm is the basis for the Gap Theory and needs further explanation both scientific and theological. In our texts, it is supposed that the cataclysm was caused by Satan's rebellion and fall. In fact, Lucifer, the highest of all created angels, the supreme of all of God's hierarchy, the covering cherub of the very throne of God, rebelled and tried to usurp God's dominion. As a result, God expelled him from heaven and he became Satan, the great adversary of God. Satan's fall was in heaven, in the "holy mountain of God," not on Earth. Scripture does not make any statement about Satan on Earth until after the heavenly rebellion (see Isa. 14:12). In this text, Satan "which didst weaken the NATIONS" is yet a future event, there were no nations prior to creation. This, too, places the completion of the "I will's" of Satan also into the future tribulation when the anti-christ is sitting on David's throne. Read Ezek. 28:15-17, Satan is cast to the earth ('erets #0776). There is no Scriptural reason to connect Satan's removal from office to a cataclysm on earth. Why would Satan try to ruin a non-existing creation that had nothing living? It's more accurately that Satan became jealous of God's plan for man on Earth after creation and his vanity caused the rebellion. Where is Satan today? Before the throne of God accusing the brethren. Gen. 1:32 includes the heavens and the earth and ALL the host of them as being very good. Therefore, Satan's sin occurred after the creation.

~Daily Inspirational ~   PART 2   WHEN DID SATAN FALL -    NOVEMBER 30, 2006

WHEN DID SATAN FALL
- PART 2
By Dr. William Hallman

Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 28: 11-17

Once in awhile, we hear that man's creation was God's answer to Satan's rebellion. For some reason, God was teaching Satan and the fallen angels a great object lesson, and since they did not keep their first estate, God created man in Satan's place. When Satan brought about Adam's fall, God decided to redeem man in order to demonstrate His power and grace before the watching angels. It is evident that the angels did have a great deal of interest in God's provision for man as seen in I Cor. 4:9, 6:3; Eph. 3:10 and I Peter 1:12, but this is not an afterthought of God. The main purpose for man's creation was to glorify God, man was the main character in God's plan. Because angels were always seen in Scripture as ministering spirits, sent to minister to man and Israel in particular, it leads then that there would be no reason for them to have been created much earlier than man.

Consider that even if Satan's sin could have caused a pre-Adamic cataclysm on earth, that would still not account for the geologic ages, with their evolutionary succession of identifying fossils. The real cataclysm, the flood, occurred after creation. The world was without form (water, no land) and was void of any inhabitants and darkness was upon the face of the deep waters, not land. Angels, including Satan, were present to "shout for joy" when God laid the foundations of the Earth on the 3rd day of creation (Job 38:4-7). On the 3rd day, "God called the dry land Earth" (Gen. 1:10).

This theory still does not bring us to any conclusion as to the whole problem of eons of suffering and death, for all this would have occurred not only before Adam sinned, but even according to the Gap Theory, before Satan (an angel) had sinned.

~Daily Inspirational ~   PART 3   WHEN DID SATAN FALL -   DECEMBER 1, 2006

WHEN DID SATAN FALL
- PART 3
Correction made By  R. Edward Beauchamp

Scripture Reading: Gen. 1:26,31; II Cor. 4:4; Eph. 4:17-18

Conclusions: It is evident and Scriptural that Lucifer became resentful when he discovered God would give earth's dominion to man rather than to him and the other angels. However, Satan could not have caused any great cataclysm for it would not be possible for God to state that the creation was "very (exceedingly) good (pleasant, agreeable)" if there had existed millions of years of suffering and death between Gen. 1:1 and 1:2.

Sometime during Genesis 2, the events of Ezek. 28:15-17 took place. Lucifer fell from his absolute authority as head of the angels and was sent to walk the earth (Job 1:6-7), the only inhabited place in the universe that Satan had not had control over (Gen. 1:26, 28). He is still the "accuser of the brethren" in heaven and will be until Rev. 12:10 when he and his other angels have gathered for the war in heaven against Michael and the faithful angels. Every reference to the permanent removal of Lucifer from heaven (that many would suppose happened in the book of Genesis) is a future event.

The reference noted in Job 2 is that Satan has been out as the prince and power of the air and had been looking for his next victim when the Lord asks him if he had considered Job. It is evident that Satan had left heaven for some time to roam to and fro to see what trouble he could cause. He then goes back to heaven with some other fallen angels and God asks (even though He knows), "Where have you been?" Satan evidently had and still has access to the earth but as time and methods change in God's plans for man, Satan now seems to be content to be reigning as a usurper in the earth (II Cor. 4:4; Eph. 4:17-18) and is content to be the father of all those accepting his philosophy of independence from God (John 8:44; Eph. 2:2). How important it is to study the, Scriptures so that we can answer the skeptics and are able to stand for the word rightly divided (II Tim. 2:15).
