rather than getting into government sensorship I think that it would be nice to only pay for the channels you actually want coming into your home.

I know it has something to do with the filtering they use for various packages. the filter allows certain Frequencies to come in and keeps the high end movie stations out until you pay for a different package (filter) to be installed.

until they can come up with a better way to controle what gets through the filter without having to install a mini cable box micro processor thing on everyones line (more money) we will be forced to get all and see all, so I opt to have none, see none and have my broadband internet and see only what I want to see. I know what you mean brother, cause I don't use a whole lot of the channels I have.  Though I started having sattilite service with Primestar.  Then Direct TV bought out Primestar. They keep adding channels, that I don't watch.  That and they want me to switch packages.  I have my speed channel, (thru Primestar) which is mostly Nascar, and racing.  There package would have me adding another 15 bucks so I would have speed channel.

Lilpilgrim -

I don't have a V-chip but have done some research since starting this thread.  Have you heard of Tivo Kidzone or SkyAngel?

Unfortunately, I have not. I know Tivo has some nifty features, but I don't know what those features entail.

Okay...I AM TELLING! Nya nya nya *picks up phone to call all wives*  Tongue

I only watch TV once a day..mostly shows that I enjoy, like MONK, some BBC shows and some Law shows. I don't what anything that has profanity in it, and forget the sex factor (I think that is a reality show these days). My kids have more blocked stations than they don't.

I blocked MUSLIM TV as well==now, to block ALL SPORTS CHANNELS!!!! Smiley

It gets hard to block just channels much anymore as well.
Even on like the cartoon channel there is mostly good stuff on there for the kids that they like and that I do not find offensive or anything.  But there are some shows that come on that we do not allow them to watch.  SO I cannot just block the channel and we get down to the show.  Fortunately my kids are good enough to know that when we say no we mean no and you better not get caught watching it Smiley  (and we can tell when one comes on because they come down and tell us and we go and play a game or something in the mean time.)

As far as the government censorship and such that was mentioned.  Let us not forget that the government in it's entirety, as a whole, completely, every bit of it, is here for us.  We have established a country that fosters freedom and tolerance, however we are also a country in which the majority set the standards (or they are supposed to anyways).  So if a majority of people do not want naked buttocks on the screen then the majority should be able to say NO and do not allow it.

However that being said we do have that right, but we never exercise that right, except on occasion.  If you are fed up with what Spike TV shows at 6pm during CSI with the "Girls Gone Wild" videos or the inappropriate "Axe" commercials.  Then get out from in front of the TV and send them a letter.  Get with people from your church that agree and everyone send them a letter.  Stop watching the channel, boycott the product.

I have a better idea.  Get up and go out on visitation and spread the Word of God and help your church grow.  Invite people to Sunday School.  Do not be a hypocrite and complain about what a certain channel is showing on TV and then sit there and watch it anyways.  They have ideas of what people are watching.  And marketing folks target those times.  You dont like the product they are marketing, don't buy and let others know why if it is ungodly.  Don't like the channel because they always show that stuff, then don't watch it.  Make a sacrafice to miss NASCAR or Monk (ouch) or something else for the cause of Christ.

Wow...that hurts even me cause I can sometimes be guilty of that.

Sincerely
Brother Jerry

I just responded to the "Most Haunted" post by a fellow member.  Television is a powerful tool for corruption (either spiritually or otherwise).  My son is always trying to watch that junk.

I would get behind any politician or public figure (and I know some have) that would stand up to this sewage on our airwaves.  I know we have options to filter but I mean come on......how do you know what to filter and what not?

Anyway,

M.L.

Should pastors study demonology? satan would love it if they didn't. Wink

I posted this on "Most Haunted" but I want to make sure I am being understood, so I'll post it here as well.

Hello my friends.

I understand why people would not watch this show. My sons are all men, otherwise they would not be watching it.

I watched, and allowed my sons to watch, as a study tool. Look, Jesus told us we had His authority and power to drive out demons.
We don't have to run from them. Today, my sons are far more educated, and better equipped to see through the lies and deception of these kind of occurrences. As we watched the program, I constantly pointed out to my sons exactly what was REALLY going on, rather than what they were told was happening. Whenever someone claimed to be in contact with a "ghost" I would immediately tell my sons, for example, "that's not a ghost - it's a demon, don't get involved with this" "that man is not in contact with a spirit guide named Sam, he is being fooled by a demon, and whoever messes around with such things is doomed to hell". I would rather have my sons know the truth from me, and God's point of view, than have them learn from one who believes this stuff.

I found it to be an excellent study tool. My sons are now very aware of the kind of trickery and deceit involved in all aspects of so called ghosts and those who believe they can converse with ghosts.
I found the program to be an excellent tool for teaching and learning. I now know all the jargin, and I am so much better prepared to deal with this than I was prior to watching the program.

It has actually helped me to steer my own sister, and my wife's sister away from believing in psychic and everything involved in that world.
Don't be so quick to assume, or judge. I didn't watch the show for pleasure, or because I believed any of it. I know full well that these are not ghosts, that they are demonic.

Watching a program is a world away from actually getting involved in the practice.
I posted a good while back about a very dear friend who was involved in native Indian cult. Part of the success I finally had in convincing "Dave" that he was dealing not with his "ancient ancestors", but with demonic forces came as a direct result from what I learned from watching the show.

Don't you know that many pastors and priests must, and do study demonology? How else do you think these leaders are able to understand and deal with such things?
A very important part of all of this is prayer. God wants us to be prepared. God wants us to fight evil - all kinds of evil.
Some of us are not suited for actually doing direct up close and personal demonic possession, and that's OK. We all have different gifts and purposes for Jesus don't we?
If we run and hide from such things, then we Will not be able or equipped to fight it off Will we?
Jesus told us we had His authority and power to expell demons, but if we are ignorant about the practice, then we cannot, and should not get involved in attempting to intervene on anyone's behalf.

Some of us must do battle with such forces, Jesus told us as much. We can't run and hide from demonic attack, someone has to deal with it, and that someone should study as much as is possible in order to be able to fight it.

So if it's not for you that's OK, you will have other gifts from God in order to better do His will, but don't be so quick to judge those of us who want to learn all our enemies tricks and practices.

God Bless my friends...

John

I put the T.V. up 2 years ago an that was the best thing that I have ever done for myself an my family. No instead of watching mindless stuff that was creating a wordly view on things of GOD. I started to have family time, getting closer realtionship with my wife again, bible study time daily, evening prayer with my family after bible study. So in return I was taking my place as head over the home that God has given me. [From: The Revolutionist His Bondservant Forever In Christ Jesus \0/
