Vietnam POW Gutterson, who became advocate for MIA families, dies

Associated Press
Jun. 23, 2006 07:25 AM

TUCSON - Former Vietnam War POW Retired Air Force Colonel Laird Guttersen has died. He was 80.

Guttersen, a longtime Tucson resident, pent five years in a North Vietnamese prisoner of war camp and later became an advocate for families of missing vets.

He died June 13th from complications of a stroke. He was 80.

Guttersen's F-4 Phantom was shot down over North Vietnam in 1968. After his release in 1973 he began calling on the U.S. government to give the public a complete accounting of all Americans missing in action or still captive overseas.

He also criticized the White House for not doing more to help the families of P-O-W's.

Guttersen is survived by his wife, Jennifer, six children and 15 grandchildren.

Services will be held next Thursday at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

My note; If WBC shows up, I feel sorry for them.

May he rest in the hands of God.
