I am opening this, because I haven't been out of SA either. Did visit UK for a week but I had so much talking to do (sister-in-law married a redneck) that I saw almost nothing of the coutry.

SA is a very diverse place with a colorful and rich people. We have 11 official languages, and then there are some that was to small to include. Shocked
We also have some that have blown over from Europe and such, but were not included in the officials, obviously.

This is our public holidays: http://www.info.gov.za/aboutsa/holidays.htm
We have deserts, mountains, forests, wetlands, valleys and the longest shoreline. Find some photos here : http://www.photonetwork.co.za/
Our food and clothing is just as diverse as our languages.

Life here is not worse then any other place. I like it here, although our unempoyement rate is reaching new hights. Corruption abounds, and crime is rife.

We have the best place to look at sunsets and sunrises on earth. IMHO.
And God is sending rain. What a blessing it is to live and work here.

Wow, the assumptions we make.  I assumed you were a North American woman who was a missionary in SA.  I didn't realize we had a "real native" on this forum.  Wonderful!

Thanks for the links.  I'll check them out so I can get to know you more.  I've always wanted to visit the UK.  (And do you mean redneck American or farm guy from UK?)  11 languages make for interesting times.  For example, in my area of Taiwan, there are 3 major languages so I've been in homes where bilingual folks were translating all  night.  ha

I rejoice with you that the Lord is blessing your land with much needed rain!   He is awesome!

It is sooo cool to see you again, ForHisGlory!  Thanks for the links, I will definitely check them out.  Now that I know you're native to SA, I'm curious about your "given" name?  I'm sure your mother didn't name you "ForHisGlory" unless that's what your given name actually means?  And I'd also love a recipe or two to try ~ would you mind posting something easy to start out with?  Is there anything about us that you're interested in, such as food or customs?  I'll share if you do!   Wink

Blessings-

Your friend and
sister in Christ,

Here is some converters. They will help you to do all the recipies.

http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_common.htm for weight
http://www.onlineconversion.com/cooking_volume.htm for teaspoons ect..

Apricot blatjan is a condiment to use on mostly meat. It goes really well with beef and pork. I refuse to eat saugages without it. Try it on burgers too, it tastes wonderful. It should be left to mature for at least 3 days. But do safe some to try imediately.

I'll get back with my favourite recipe later. Post yours for me.

What do you do in your church? Which of those do you like and enjoy the most? I like to hear about other congregations and the things they do. What does a usual service in your church look like?

and recipies. My son and I loves to cook.

I've been baptised Susanna Magrietha, but friends call me Grieta. Everyone else just use " Yes, Boss"  Cheesy
