Hitler was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1938.  Leading the campaign for years was the renowned author, Gertrude Stein.
As early as 1934, she told a reporter that Hitler should be awarded the Nobel peace prize:

"I say that Hitler ought to have the peace prize, because he is removing all the elements of contest and of struggle from Germany. By driving out the Jews and the democratic and Left element, he is driving out everything that conduces to activity. That means peace ... By suppressing Jews ... he was ending struggle in Germany" (New York Times Magazine, May 6, 1934).

Hm.  wow.  Thanks, wopik.  I had no idea.

I think Arafat was actually awarded it?   Not sure.

I remember reading that in the credits to the second skyscare flick, Airplane II, at the end of the movie, after they gave the credit for "Best Boy" (which actually is an assistant to the electrician), was the new credit, "Worst Boy:  Adolph Hitler".

Hehe.

Yes, Arafat was awarded it.

Goes to show how credible the coveted prize is when they let the worst elements of society have such honor.   Wink

Only one correction to make to your spelling error! I think that
you meant to say piece, not peace!

Well I wouldn't have put America first either.  They certainly provided much help when it was most needed but Great Britain [now the UK] had to fight for years by themselves and had the Nazis won even America's freedom would have been threatened.  It must not be forgotten either that our Scottish and Welsh brethren carried much of the burden as did our commonwealth brethren.  I thank them.  Our free Irish brethren chose to help the enemy under the guise of neutrality.

God bless

Hmmm.  Hitler, Arafat – if killing Jews is what it is all about it kind of makes you wonder why the Nobel committee, in their “infinite wisdom”, doesn’t give Pontius Pilate the “prize” posthumously.
In my opinion – the award and praise for peace should go to God each and EVERY year!

Huh
No, I meant "peace". Hitler's hypocritical style of "peace", war, destruction, murder, torture, innocent people imprisoned, suicide, was soon brought to an end throught the efforts of the people of the countries mentioned.

However many from these countries had to face his piece and many died to bring his peace to an end.

England, France, many other countries, and oh yes, America got in the way of his peace.
