1  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re:Stay away from IE on: October 10, 2004, 05:08:40 PM
Well, this is what I've been trying to tell people:

Quote
IE is no better than Mozilla or some other free browser.
IE has security issues (duh) as well as non-brand name
browsers. When it comes down to the mechanics of a
browser, they all suffer security problems. A browser by
any other name is still a browser. Adware/spyware/malware
coders are getting sophisticated in their programming skills
spybots are behind them in their dust. These programmers
are learning the tricks to get past how data is formatted on
a browser. For example, turning off executable downloads
from a browser does not mean person (hacker) cant run an
program with it on. They still can!

Education is the best way to deal with it, not changing your browser (although it might help for a while). Me, I'm still using IE....not because I think it's great, but because I've had very few problems that I haven't been able to handle with it, and who wants to give them the satisfaction? (I had one bad one, but it didn't come through ie and I had to reformat) But, because I got educated about security measures, and how to be careful, where to go for help if you can't fix it, I feel a little better (not safe, just better, lol).....

Oct. 31...

Quote
In the past, it was originally called Samhain (pronounced sow-in), the end of summer. This was a festival celebrated by the Celtic Druids to end the harvest season and begin the winter season and was celebrated on October 31st. This was the end of their year. November 1st was the beginning of the New Year.

and

Quote
Samhain (The Festival of the Dead) was observed in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. As evening drew near, they began preparations for the Vigil of Samhain (The Lord of Darkness). It was believed that the veil between the living world and the spirit world was at its thinnest, and that spirits could cross over and walk the earth once more. Communication with dead kinsmen was also believed to be possible at this time, and that all magical powers were enhanced greatly.

What is wrong with Jack Chick? personally i never heard of it until now about the website i was only going by what i could find on the info and if it looked credible or not so the only thing to make sure is right is to look up the hebrew word that Jack Chick, posted on his site to see how credible it is. But it seems to me that it makes sense in what he said. There just wasn't much info about this when i was looking for it this morning.

Michael

I guess the answer to "what is wrong with Jack Chick" is entirely dependent on your point of view. These "chick tracts" (a small selection) are not something I would want to hand to anyone as a witness tool....

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1000/1000_01.asp

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0074/0074_01.asp

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0273/0273_01.asp

There are many ways to witness; people do things in different ways...but one doesn't have to be rude to do it and you don't have to put others down in order to do it. Perhaps it's not so much that his "biblical" references are wrong (although I happen to feel there are some questionable areas, but that's only my opinion) but Jesus Christ can certainly outshine any chicktract, all on His own. Why give someone rudeness, when you can give them Christ?

I L-O-V-E Jack Chick Smiley

Yeah, I know. But even you will have to admit that he's not always right...

...sigh

Personally, I wouldn't trust Jack Chick's advice on anything. In this case, it's possibly right (seems to be quoting someone else), but very often it's wrong.

Keep looking.....

http://misslink.org/chapel/askaminister/religion/thedead.html

If the answer matches biblically, AND if these websites all have the same opinion as the chicktrac then it's probably right.

Never trust one source, except God.

(ps: I didn't read through all these, so I have no idea what your outcome will be)
6  Theology / Apologetics / Re:God's Office on: October 05, 2004, 01:35:11 PM
If you didn't want an answer, then why did you ask? Just to see what we know?

Since most of the answers I noted did come from the bible, not from our own minds, I'd call that humility/humbleness - turning to that which leads us instead of leading others with our "own understanding". After all, the bible does tell us to "lean not unto our own understanding...."

Quote
Do not mock at the one who asks if you don't know the answer; but better keep quite.

Better to give the answer the bible provides than to not answer at all. I will stand up for my God and if that means being mocked, then I am mocked. Christ suffered much more for me, than I for him.

I don't believe that I mocked anyone, however, if I did do so, then I ask forgiveness. It was not intentional.

peace and blessings

Asking him to come get me, would be right up there on the top of the list for sure..... Cheesy

But knowing that He is going to do that anyways, I think I would ask Him to make me a perfect conduit of His Love, and be an invincible wittness for Him   Smiley

Grace and Peace!

I'd ask Him to come get me - NOW - I mean  Smiley (I am not a very patient person  Grin )

Gracey

but, I love this too....

Hello Sister Gracey,

I remember a time when it was a fad to have one of troll dolls with the funny colored hair. I never did figure out what that fad was all about. That reminds me of another fad I didn't understand either - PET ROCKS.   Grin

However, I wasn't a complete square - I did wear bell-bottomed pants at one time.   Grin

Love In Christ,
Tom

Hey BEP -

.....I am still wearing my bell-bottomed pants  Smiley.

Ummmm, I didnt understand the troll thing either....but my kids thought they were cute!

The pet rocks I understand to some degree....no feeding, no walking, no cleaning up, no responsibility, no talkin' back, no explaining....pretend love....it's sad, but a lot of the world lives that way.

11  Theology / Debate / Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex on: October 04, 2004, 08:03:00 AM
I personally wouldn't enter a competition where men wrestled against women...just doesn't seem right.

But the concept of competing, whether man against man or man against woman is okay with me in other areas. I think if a woman wants to compete against a man (say, arm wrestling) then she competes under the same rules a man does. Equality. That doesn't mean you "let" anybody win...you do your best, each of you. Lots of women are physically stronger than men; lots aren't. The only concern I might have is someone getting hurt because they are not matched well physically and that can happen with men/men or men/women matches.

What is it technically about Christianity that makes it a subject that can't be taught in public schools?

Because it's real; because Christians believe in it, and will never say it's just a myth. It's a living religion (don't like that word), if you will. Satan would do whatever he can to stop it's spread.

Greek "gods and goddeses" are part of history (yes, so is our Christ, but He still lives) and so they can say they are teaching "historical religion". I don't think you'd find an awful lot of people around today who still believe those same gods or goddesses are/were real. They aren't a threat to anybody; merely carved images, idols....dead.

So why not create a system that makes sense instead of just having it appear?

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and everything in them.

He created man, he didn't evolve him. He created woman from man's rib, not from an amoeba.

Created he them, in his own image, no less. God doesn't need evolution. Unbelieving man needs an answer; a man of faith has his answer.

God is the ultimate miracle worker....  Grin

Quote
Regardless of what the religious view is, and just looking ast the facts, humans being the most intelligent animals is clearly false.  Humans may have the larger brain, but we only use 10% resulting in us having a much lower brain capasity than other animals.  Lets just look at human behaviour, destroying the planet, killing other humans for no reason, yeha these definately sound like the actionsof the mostintelligent animal on the planet.

Along with intelligence comes responsibility. Animals have no responsibility; humans do. Along with intelligence comes conscience...animals have none; most humans have one, but not all of them, apparently, or else they are ignoring it. Because the actions of some are apparently, somewhat less than thoughtful, does not make all of humanity the same.

God apparently thinks humans are worth something, or He wouldn't have given us His greatest gift....Jesus.

Quote
Animals eat other animals becuase they have no alternative, humans have the option, we can live health life styles without eating meat.  yes our body won't get certain things that it needs, but meat also provides the body with many unhealth things.

Animals have the same alternative man has, when you come right down to it. There are plenty of animals who are not carnivorous...and they survive quite handily.

God gave man the authority and dominion over animals...not over each other (God is my authority; He has dominion in my life). Equating meat-eating with the eating of humans makes no sense whatsoever. God's word has never said humans may eat humans....  What an odd argument to use.

Personally, I have no problem with vegans...my daughter calls herself a "pastatarian"....she doesn't like meat, but eats plenty of pasta, veggies, fruit etc..... She does, however, cook meat for her husband and has no problem doing that.

I don't see the point in this at all....if you don't like meat, don't eat it. But don't tell everybody else it's wrong, when God clearly says it isn't wrong.

peace
