Title: How did you get your screen name?
Post by: Whitehorse on October 25, 2003, 07:31:24 PM
I'm always so curious about how people choose their names. Tell us your epic.   :)

My last name is Thibodeaux. So, in Atheletes, we always go by last names for some reason, and in middle school, guys from the team would called out "Hey, Thibodeaux" and everyone, started doing it. after while, in high school, someone just said "Hey, Tibby" and it stuck. Now, everyone who knows me calls me tibby.

That is my lame epic. So, whitehorse, what about you? Ofcourse, we can take the biblical referance, but why that name?

A4C and S4E need not post ;D

Oklahoma Howdy to All,

I wanted something very plain and I like to eat blackeyed peas with ham, cornbread, and buttermilk.

BlackeyedPeasWithHamCornbreadAndButtermilk was too long, so I settled with Blackeyedpeas.   ;D

In Christ,
Tom

My screen name comes from a character that I write about. She's a hermit doctor.

Good question, Whitehorse.  Thank yo.

Willowburch:  She's a hermit doctor.    ???  Yikes.   ;D

Mine comes from Revelation 11:15,

"Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever."

...and from Rev. 19:6-8,

"Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying, 'Hallelujah!  For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.  Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready..."

...a veritable victory culiminating in a "symphony" or exultation to the Lord God Almighty....

    :)

Sapphire WEAPON is the monster that attacks Junon in Final Fantasy VII. It is never actually named in the game other than WEAPON, but it has been given the prefix "Sapphire" among FFVII fans, due to its blue color.

Mine comes from the name of an Inn where theologians used to meet to discuss the latest occurences in Christianity during the 1600s. Eventually the ideas discussed there spread the Reformation across Europe. The name of the inn was The White Horse Inn. It also reminds me of a friend who didn't know the Lord. But God gave me a chance to share the gospel with him, and he did ask lots of questions. But it was the last time I spoke with him, because he was killed in a car accident shortly thereafter. The white horse had special meaning in his life, but why it was special to him is a theequit!

Assuming you and Whitehorse are seperate people, this will get very confusing, very quickly.

Actually, WhitehorseToo and I are the same person-I had to switch names because I boobooed myself out of my account. I changed my email, which automatically sends you a new password when you do that, but I typoed my email address-twice-and locked myself out of my account. But BEP and Ray helped me get back on track. Thanks, guys!

A "theequit".   Hmmmm.   What language is that?  I guess that's a "theequit" too.   8)

You know, a few months ago on a Christian radio station I heard a half hour broadcast called, "The Whitehorse Inn", named likewise for the same reason--the Reformation in Europe...

I theenk.

Yep! The White Horse Inn is named after this very place and incident. Although, it still irks me to no end that they say, "Whith plenty of dishes on tap..."  ;D

But we'll keep that a theequit!

We seem to have gotten of the topic...so let me, as the mature, reliable adult that I am, return us thereto...

I picked my screen name because that is my desire.  Paul's "one thing" that he pursued was to know Jesus personally and experiencially, to see the power that resurrected Christ at work in his life and the lives of others, and to share in the sufferings that make that power, and that God so much more real.  I strive for this as well.  I want Him to be my All in All.   :)

*Runs off with all of the wabbits*

Since I live in Indiana.. and when I first got onto the net, and went to a chat site, they asked for a handle.. so I came up with "Hoosier"-- since a Hoosier is a person that lives in Indiana... So I kept it.. .. I have actually met one person that knew me from one site to another site. due to the fact that I kept it as my handle...lol

Romans changed my life.  This is probably not an original statement.  My life was pretty crappy.  I couldn't understand why wasn't living like I wanted to.  I considered myself a Christian, but I couldn't get over the hump ... to the next level.  I kept doing the things I hated.  I read chapter 6 and learned in 6:12 that I shouldn't "let" sin reign in my body.  What did that imply ... "let"?  That I had the power to not to.  I had stop thinking of myself as a sinner, and to think of myself as a saint who occasionally sins.  If you don't recognize the difference, let me know and we'll start another thread.  It's a huge difference.  Then I get to chapter 7 and it still sends shivers up my back to hear how Paul felt like I did.  He dispised the things he did.  To hear Paul struggle somehow made me feel ok.  Paul cries out "Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?"  That was exactly how I felt.  Then we climax to Romans 8.1 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" and then just takes off from there in some of the prettiest words you will ever hear for the rest of Chapter 8.  We learn that we don't even know to pray.  We learn that there is a pray meeting going on for us right now the Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.  We learn that who are we to be afraid of?  Who could possible condemn us?  Don't we know who we are???? We are children of God!!!!

Chapters 7 and 8 are gems and 8.1 is the cornerstone.  I would recommend everyone to read chapters 6,7,8 at least once a month.  It's the best medicine in the world to be reminded what being a Christian is all about.

Grace and Peace to you.

Romans 8.1 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" and then just takes off from there in some of the prettiest words you will ever hear for the rest of Chapter 8.  We learn that we don't even know to pray.  We learn that there is a pray meeting going on for us right now the Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.  We learn that who are we to be afraid of?  Who could possible condemn us?  Don't we know who we are???? We are children of God!!!!
"The Holy Spirit of God testifies with our spirits that we are children of God!"

Jesus tells us that we will no longer sin if we have faith in Him; based on other scriptures, I believe this refers to a sin that is precious to us and rules our life. It does not mean that we will never stumble as Christians. But if we see sin in our lives, and it is overcoming us, we have the power to resist and reject it. Christ gives us that power. And even if we have to regularly turn away from other sins that have ensnared us, we are doing what He has called us to do, and that is to obey. We will make mistakes, we will let Satan or our Old Nature beat us up now and then, but we are still the Children of God, a truth so powerful that even God's Spirit vehemently agrees with ours on this subject!

Yes, thank you, Romans 8_1:

I had stop thinking of myself as a sinner, and to think of myself as a saint who occasionally sins.

I understand Romans at one time was used as a text in several U.S. law schools...

Oklahoma Howdy to Romans8_1,

I really enjoyed your post. It was also a testimony that should help and encourage all of us. Ephesians and Romans are two of my favorite portions of the Bible. I say this because they seem to best portray the Grace and Love of Almighty God in HIS many GIFTS to HIS children. It is also here that the mystery not known to men of other ages is revealed and explained. The HEART of the Gospel of God's Grace is beautiful and precious. Thanks be unto God for HIS unspeakable GIFT!

Love In Christ,
Tom

Well, my name came from my prayer to God.
I pray daily that all that I do, all that I say, everywhere I go, will show that He is in my live. In this way HE gets all the GLORY. If it were not for Him, I would be lost, lonely and on the way to damnation.
I dream to hear these words from His mouth:

Job 42:7   ...for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
Job 42:8  ...my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

I wish to speak that which is right, like Job. ;)

It's great to see you on the forum.

I have both of my guard dogs watching after me right now. They appear to be asleep, but I know they are on duty.  :D  I haven't been attacked by a single thing while they were on duty. The youngest one only has about half of his teeth left, so I hope that he doesn't have to defend me from something much more vicious than a parakeet.  ;D

Thanks Dreamweaver! That was sooooo cute!  My cat, "Talker" was a stray hanging around the neighborhood and one day I answered the door to let my mom in and the cat just jumped into my lap! (I'm in a wheelchair) The scrawny little kitten had my heart right then and there.  I knew by looking at her that she had been on the street for quite some time; she was obviously under nourished and dehydrated, so after two or three days I took her to the vet.  This baby had an upper respiratory infection, ear mites, and pink eye.  But worse than that, a blood test proved she also has feline leukemia.... my heart broke for her!  She obviously loved me and I had fallen for her too - so the doctor said that with optimum care and a good diet she can very well live up to five years.  I knew she deserved a chance at life!  So I walked out of the veterinary hospital with a plethora of prescription medicine and a very sickly kitten.   Well, fast forward one year - she's fat and spoiled and loving and beautiful and I'm soooo grateful to God for whatever time He allows for me and Talker.

Blessings -

Hi gracie21,

Welcome to Christians Unite. I think it's a beautiful name. The name comes from the word grace which means kindness,  beauty, pleasant or precious. So that means that you have a precious, beautiful name.

God's gift to us is called grace for this very reason .... it is a precious, beautiful gift. The most precious, beautiful gift of all.
