There seems to be an abundance of threads dissecting the Catholic church. Why another? When I clicked on this thread I was hoping that it would be discussing other religions that try to pass themselves off as Christian. Like the Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc.

Are you on a mission to see how many threads you can start on the same topic? Or do you just start another thread instead of answering questions posed to you in the first thread?

Theology / Debate / Re:Knowing Christ's words

If an interpretation disagrees with any scriptural then the interpretation is faulty. All of scriputre has to agree. That's why it is so important to know Christ's words first. Then the bible will make complete sense to us if it does not contradict Christ's words. A good example is the belief that one can lose his salvation. A person may find a passage in the NT that sounds like we can lose our salvation. But when taken in light of Christ's words, that "no one can snatch them out of my hand," in order for all of scripture to agree, then there must be another meaning. The meaning that does agree with all of scripture is that the true sheep will listen to His voice and cannot be snatched out of His hand. The men, however, who "honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me", can be snatched out of his hand. There are true teachings and false teachings. True teachings do not contradict any scripture.
How do you know what you believe is really factual?
How do you know that someone hasn't fed you a pack of lies somewhere?
You're willing to slam others for their beliefs but you are unwilling to teach them anything. Why is this?
If you want to teach someone something- or learn something- first of all you need to find out why people believe what they believe and then find a common ground in your beliefs and theirs and go from there.
Slamming others without getting to know them isn't going to help you or them learn anything.
Now, you must have not seen my question to you in the thread "About Protestants" so I'm copying and pasting it here for you:
Heidi and others who support OSAS, please explain 2 Peter 3:9-17:
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The Heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and Godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the Heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with His promise we are looking forward to a new Heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him. Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means Salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contian some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scripture, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
BTW Heidi- just because we disagree on this issue, doesn't mean that either one of us doesn't have Salvation. It just means that one or both of us might be getting confused or quoting from the book of 2 Opinions.

Everyone will probably disagree with each other at some point and time. We're not carbon copies of each other. Just because someone doesn't agree, it doesn't mean that the Holy Spirit is not in them.
Jumping to the conclusion that someone is not saved or not listening to the Holy Spirit because they are in disagreement with you makes it pretty hard to carry on an intelligent conversation. It makes it hard for you to learn from others and to teach them.

I love the Acts of the Apostles. It's nice to see the similarities in the Early Church and the Church I belong to.
Yes, I attend a church that is definately a New Testament church. But is it THE New Testament Church? JustMe, Nickolai thinks the roman catholic religion is the one and only true church. If I had to join a religion it would not be his (Nickolai ) I'm Not Roman Catholic. I'm Eastern Orthodox. There is a huge difference. I haven't noticed a huge difference, but that's best saved for another thread.

why do you feel that way?
Dunno, but they make good cornflakes huh? SDAs make good cornflakes? I don't understand the humor behind that.
SDAs were started by Ellen White, who was supposed to be a prophet who lived in the 1800s (I think). My mother has been an SDA for years, but basically all she will tell me is that they wear only a minimal amount of jewelry, don't eat pork and worship on Saturdays.

What can we do about it? We've gotten so seeker friendly in some churches that we are more concerned with getting new members and having bigger churches that we've forgotten how important Spiritual growth is. I fully believe that we should always be striving to bring new people to church, but we should not present a watered down Gospel to get them to stay. A church full of Spiritual infants is not a good thing.

I'm an Addam's Family fan too. Besides, who can resist doing the finger snaps when the theme comes on?
My all time favorite shows would be either I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke or Andy Griffith.
I used to be a caretaker for a lady who had Alzheimers. I would take her to a restaurant near my house called the Mayberry Cafe. They have all kinds of Andy Griiffith stuff there and they played the show on about 25 different tvs. It may it nice to take her out to eat because she had the patience of a child and would get impatient waiting for her food to be served. Watching the show would keep her entertained and I didn't have to worry about her trying to steal other people's food.
