Tear down, or disassemble?  For a lack of better word.

misinform, mislead, confuse, perplex, puzzle; becloud, cloud, darken, obscure

I was just wondering. I think I did the opposite of edification to another brother. Even though I was just and in the right under the circumstances, I still felt that what I did was not right by the standard of life. I spoke the truth, but for the brother he was weak and not ready for it.

So I asked God to give me a chance to redeem myself. When I got home, God provided me with the opportunity to edify my sister with the Word.

So that's why I wanted to know the opposite of edification. Since I feel that what I did to the other brother was the opposite of edification, as I made myself right before God after I edified someone.

I understand Felix.   I was just pointing out how the opposite of edify is depressing.

Felix

The opposite of edification is the A.C.L.U. (anti Christian lawyer’s union)  Cheesy

Well, Let’s define edify:

Thayer’s lexicon says:

Edify-  oikodomeo, also oikodomos (Acts 4:11)-

1) to build a house, to erect a building:
a) to build (up from the foundation)
b) to restore by building, to rebuild, to repair
2) metaphorically:
a) to found, to establish
b) to promote growth in Christian wisdom, affection, grace, virtue, holiness, or blessedness
c) to grow in wisdom and piety
[/u]

I think the two definitions I’ve underlined are what we mean as Christians. When I think of what represents the opposite to me, I come up with..foolish talking, unseemly entertainments (most that’s out there), theological knit picking, any distractions, chosen or unavoidable, that grieve the Spirit or quench the Life in me or others.

1 Tim 1:4
Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. (KJV)

Rom 15:1-2
1. We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
2. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
(KJV)

2 Cor 13:10
therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. (KJV)

If you vented hard on the brother, then you need to apologize and make peace. On the other hand a brother with any growth at all may have been edified by your admonishment.

Col 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (KJV)

Did you sing to the brother?  Smiley

Col 3:3-4
3. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4.When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
