I know that I have been asking a lot of questions lately, but you guys give such good answers.  Grin  Ok one more question until I get stumped with another question.

What do I do or how do I act when I know that people are taking advantage of me?  I was wondering if I should keep my mouth shut and just help them even though they really are using me as a convenience and not out of need.  What do I do if it is rather frequent?  I know in the bible we give or help a person on what they ask us for, but what if they are starting to go nutty and WAY overboard?  I am getting a little angery at them.  I know that can't be what God wants.  Any suggestions?  Thanks guys again for answering all of my other posts with questions in them.

Hi Sister,

Actually this is a very good question. My wife and I run into this ver frequently. The Bible tells us that if someone asks us for something that we should give it to them.

Luk 6:29  And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.
Luk 6:30  Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

However I feel that there is a limit that we should go. Of the many that we help often times there are those that start demanding that help and refuse to do anything for themselves. When this happens we are unable to help those that have tried to do for themselves and really need that help. We end up having to tell them we can't help them any longer. It hurts us to do this but I believe it is important to help those that really need the help not those that are to lazy to do for themselves.

When we do this we tell them in as nice a way as possible.

I also think it is important how we help someone. An old saying goes, give a man a fish and eats for a day, teach him how to fish .... well you get the idea I'm sure.

Helping is a Godly thing to do but don't over extend yourself and if necessary to turn someone down do that in a Godly manner also.

See it is exactly those verses that got me confused on what to really do though.  I told her in a nice way to only ask for help if she needs it.  I was just wondering if I did the right thing.

Sister,

I can't tell you if you did what was right or not. You must listen to your heart. Pray about it and the Lord will speak to your heart. I do know that there are times and circumstances where we must say no.

There are times when we *give* when asked only we give what's said is needed instead of money. Or even give money directly to the business instead of through the person. Especially with online folks... some seem to make a living out of just asking for money.  Undecided

Amen, Sister that is a wise thing to do. We have given in that manner many, many times. One couple claimed they needed food and diapers for their children and asked for some money so they could go get them. We bought what they say they needed. They in turn sold the things we bought to a neighbor and used the money to get drugs. In such a case it is time to cut them off and time to help them in a different manner. In this particular case, we felt the children more important to help as the parents didn't want the help they really needed.

Another case a person kept asking for money and wouldn't work. I gave this person a job. It was the last I saw of them.
