My wife and I were reading 1 Kings chapter 13 the other nite during our family devotional time.

I was kind of take a back by the lying prophet and God's reaction to the lie he told his fellow prophet.

He lied to the Prophet who God had sent to Jeroboam. Because of lying prophets lied the Prophet who had been sent to Jeroboam disobey the Lord, yet the Lord took the life of the prophet send to Jeroboam but the lying prophet seemed not to have receive any punishment from God for his sin.

How do you explain this? Just wondering.

This chapter is primarily about the young prophet and King Jeroboam. The older prophet may have been punished, it just does not tell us this.

A bit more on this chapter.

The main points here are that there are four messages given.

1. A message from God to the young prophet giving him precise instructions and the consequences for not following them.

2. A message to King Jeroboam through the young prophet.

3. A lie from the old prophet to the young prophet.

4. A chastisement from God to the young prophet through the old prophet.

There are some lessons to be learned here and one of these involves the lie told by the old prophet.

1. We can receive messages from God in different ways.

2. We are to obey God or suffer the consequences.

3. When we receive a message through a man do not listen to it if it contradicts what God has already told us.
