What are your beliefs about the mental or physical torture of prisoners?
I guess I am one uninformed lady, but I think we should be able to use mental torture on war prisoners. Our soldiers go through training which involves them going through mental torture. My cousin was in Iraq in the special forces and he said he had to go through all type of mental torture in his training. As long as we aren't pulling out fingernails or putting body parts in vises, I think we should be able to use fear against our enemies. We know that our soldiers who are captured are certainly not treated well.

Hi Billie,

Our troops are not only prepared for going through mental torture but also the physical torture. It is because not all countries will abide by the Geneva Convention and afford our Troops the care and respect that they should. This does not mean that we should do the same as the other countries.

To risk sounding like a liberal my question though is what is defined as mental torture? Just how far do you think we should take mental torture? Should we be able to go as far as humiliating them or perhaps forcing them to violate their religious beliefs? Where do we draw the line?

If I were captured, I would sure rather have humiliation heaped upon me as it only hurts my feelings. Christians are persecuted continually in the muslim countries, and are killed.
They are forced to denounce their faith. I think we should be able to try to force them to denouce their faith, also. I guess I have a long way to go to be the kind of Christian I need to be. I know for a fact that they are forced to be muslims and have no chance to know other religions.
I just think we should be able to use tactics to make them confess. I think the Abu Gharid thing was blown way out of proportion.
I have been told by an Iranian friend that many muslims are actually atheists. He was leaning that way until I started witnessing to him. He hates the mullocracy. He told me he is going to study the Persian Bible to learn more about Christianity when he is off work around Christmas time. He is beginning to believe, when I first talked to him, (via internet), he was leaning toward Stalin and Marx. I have sent Left Behind, I & II to him and his family has watched it. I have also made an impression on his family.

I am glad to hear that you are getting somewhere with the person you spoke of. That is great news.

I understand what you are saying but think about it a minute. We cannot force them to denounce their beliefs or to accept Jesus Christ. Maybe outwardly but not in their heart. Just as you said .... many of the Muslims that are forced into that belief are actually Atheists? Hmmm .....  something to think about.

I think that there should be some methods used to attempt to get useful information from prisoners but we must be careful to not go into the realm of their world by doing as they have done. More times than not when information is forced from these people through torment it is information that is not any good as they give us anything just to stop us from tormenting them. It is a rare thing to get good valid information through such tactics.

No, I wouldn't go that far. There is no law saying that we must give any prisoner any kind of book nor that we cannot proselytize to them irregardless of what certain groups (such as the ACLU) say.

Witnessing to these people and trying to force them to denounce their beliefs are two different things.
