We haven't talked about really good FREEWARE in quite some time, so I thought it might be interesting to get an idea about the top programs being used.

By FREEWARE, I'm talking about completely free software with no strings attached (i.e. no advertising, not a trial, not crippled, etc.).

Many people might be satisfied with the standard shell and file management system that comes with Windows, but folks who do quite a bit of computer work opt for alternatives. Please tell us what you use and why.

I'm hoping this is fun and interesting for everyone.

Love in Christ,
Tom

Proverbs 3:24-26 NASB  When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence And will keep your foot from being caught.

I've never thought that the file explorer shell installed with Windows was very good. The features are limited and it's slow.

I used 2xExplorer for several years, and it adds tons of features and speed in a dual-pane environment. The same author makes xplorer2 and a FREEWARE version is available. 2xExplorer has been around several years and will spoil you with speed and features. I've been using the much newer xplorer2 for over a month, and it's GREAT!

xplorer2 is also a dual-pane environment, but many new features are added. It's also much faster than 2xExplorer, and both have a very attractive interface. Both treat zip files as just another folder, so you can simply drag and drop files into an archive without even opening your compression program.

xplorer2 is completely FREE and I'm sold on it. I still have 2xExplorer installed in case I find something bad about it, but xplorer2 appears to be a winner. I can do more with it "on the fly" in a few seconds than I can in Windows Explorer in minutes. There is no comparison at all in speed and features.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Colossians 2:6-7 NASB  Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

Ephesians 2:19-22 NASB  So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
