In Jesus, we see the fullness of God’s love, because, in Him, we see a God who sacrificed His life, in order to give life to those who hurt and betrayed Him. In, through and with Jesus, we can show God to the World by our acts of love. Unlike emotions (i.e. hatred, anger, jealousy, greed), which develop as reactions to our experiences in life, love, because it is unconditional, cannot develop as reactions to life's experiences. It is present in us, because God, who is love, put His life in us. Life’s experience teaches us that if there is fire in the building, get out of it as quickly as possible to save our life; or if some one hurts us, fight back to severe justice and then stay away from that person in order to protect our self; or if we have a good life, enjoy it. Yet we find that there are missionaries, who have left their good life and gone to dangerous parts of the world, in order to help people in need. Sometimes, they go even to help those who had killed their family or friends. We also see fire fighters, who rush into life threatening areas, to save lives of people whom they don’t know; people (like the Pope) who have forgiven and befriended people who tried to kill them; soldiers who carry injured enemy soldiers on their back to a medical facility in order to bring them help; and people (like Mother Theresa) who gave up their comfortable lives in order to help the poorest of poor. Obviously in these situations, it is not life’s experiences or intelligence, but pure love (which is God’s spirit), which makes them do what they do.
We as human beings have an inherent need for love, because we are made for love. We also originated from an act of love by our parents; and every good human relationship is based on love. Love, therefore, is at the very center of human existence and the life of our soul. Without it we are devoid of joy and peace, and without love (who is God) our spirit is dead. To be in love is to be in communion with God, because, God is love. Therefore, to be in love, is to be holy. Furthermore, we can never have true love for anyone, unless God (who is love) is number one in our life and we are in communion with Him. Love makes us truly human, gives meaning to our lives, fulfills the innermost yearning of our hearts and brings us peace. All our acts of love are God‘s works, which He performs through us. Our good acts therefore, are merely acceptance of the reward of love that God freely gives us. Furthermore, we share in God’s divinity by allowing divine actions, which are acts of love, through us.
