Ransom right or wrong

Has anyone read the article in Christianity Today, Why is Gracia Alone, it is about paying ransom to those held captive in other countries, and paying the captors ransom for the return of the one captive. She relates it to how Jesus paid the highest price, a ransom, for us. It has me thinking, I would appreciate your comments. The story also talks about how in some cultures it is customery to pay ransom, but in our culture it is wrong.
