My wife and I were discussing this the other day so I thought I’d put some thoughts down to bring about some reassessing of where we are as Christians who are not to be conformed to this world.
But what would be the possible results if women decided to give up their careers and jobs and go home?
Now before you go blow a gasket let’s clear the air here up front. I understand that due to emergencies or a true necessity a woman may have to pitch in to help support the household or herself due to several factors:
1. The husband passes away.
2. The husband is injured.
3. The woman is single away from home (for whatever reason) and not involved in the full-time church ministry.
4. The woman is married but has no children and may work under her husband’s authority at his business or similar.
But what I’m aiming at are those CHRISTIAN women that have children and who really do not have to work. I can’t expect lost women to think this way but this still could apply to them as well.
Also, I’m not aiming primarily at the women here for if she is married then the head of the household has a responsibility here. Some men are turning over what God called them to be and do to their wives thus putting undue pressures on them that were never intended. Shame on men who do this!
Now, after trying to defuse some of the objections up front let’s get on with the show!
If the women were to leave the work place let’s look at some possible results:
1. There would be probably be no unemployment problem.
2. Women would not be under the authority of another man.
3. Women would not be usurping the authority over the man.
4. The children would have a mother to come home to.
5. The women might even start taking responsibility in the raising of their children instead of turning them over to the state 8 hours a day.
6. Some women would not be tempting men with their alluring work attire.
7. Women would not seek to be doing physically what a man should be doing.
8. Women would not be under the undue pressure that God never intended for them to take.
9. There would be less confusion in the home regarding money.
10. The divorce rate might go down due to there would not be as many opportunities for temptation on both sides.
11. Women might have more time to serve their church.
12. Women might have more time to pray and keep the home,
13. The home would become more organized.
14. There would not be as much traffic on the roads.
15. Money would be saved on daycares, cars, wardrobes, etc.
16. Families would be able to slow down and spend more quality time together.
17. Health problems may go down due to the women being more relaxed and doing more of the great things God has called women to do.
18, Health would approve for then the women would have time to prepare more healthy meals from-scratch.
19. Money would be saved by not eating out since the women would have more time.
I’m sure there are some more that I’ve missed but I don’t have a lot of time.
Now here are some of the objections that are sure to come up:
1. We can’t afford our house payment or the house we want to live in!
Solution – get a smaller house or fix up the old one.
2. We can’t afford our 2 new SUV payments!
Solution – get rid of them and be more practical.
3. We won’t be able to buy a pool!
Solution – don’t buy one.
4. We have to pay for cable TV, Satellite, Broadband, etc.!
Solution – cut back.
5. We can’t drink cokes and expensive fruit juices at all our meals!!!
Solution – drink more water – it is cheaper and healthier.
6. We won’t be able to dress in the latest styles!
Solution – start making some of your children’s clothes or just be more practical.
7. We won’t be able to afford a vacation in the mountains!
Solution – go to the local zoo!
8. We won’t be able to give as much!
Give me a break! This might be the case in a small minority. If this is the case then I bet God will bless you anyway by you seeking to get your home more in line with his word.
9. What will the wife do all day?
Solution – maybe she could raise the little children, teach the little children, train the little children, keep the home, do charitable works in the neighborhood, pray more, read the Bible more, send out letters of encouragement, stay away from spas, malls, movie theaters, etc. There is plenty to do for a Christian lady involved with a family and a local church.
10. “But I won’t have any of my own money!”
Solution – trust your husband for a change.
11. “But my husband can’t provide for us!”
Solution – see the above 10 solutions and then trust God for a change.
12. “We are already in debt – what shall we do?”
Solution – see the above 11 – sell everything you have and quite working! If we give you the option of working till the debt is paid off then you will get in debt again and continue working.
Now I’m sure you can come up with more reason why you feel you just have to have a career, earn money, etc. But a family must differentiate between a need and a want. God said:
Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
God never promised to provide a want and we as Christian families spend a lot of time and money on “wants”! And these “wants” are dragging us away from God and towards the world!
Well there is my thought for the day. Wasn’t that fun?
Am I against women? Give me a break - I’m married to a faithful Christian woman who has the above convictions – she even helped me on this especially the solution to number 12.
God has given women a high calling and men and women have neglected that and even lowered that calling by letting women get involved in the workplace to the extent that they are. Both are to blame – the man for allowing or pushing the women and the women for desiring and choosing this when it is not needed,
God has seen fit to provide for us as we seek to raise 10 children away from public school. Are we perfect? Of course not? Do I trust God like I should? Of course I don’t. Is the above hard? Yes, we struggle in some of the above also. But my wife has always stayed home and she had this conviction before we got married and she is not alone in this conviction.
Yes, I understand Pro. 31. But read it real close before you seek to use it to justify the modern working woman of today!
I leave you with 3 verses for our edification:
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Titus 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
Titus 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
And finally one for the man:
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Well, I trust you will consider and ponder and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
May God bless!
What a wonderful question.
The Day Care Centers would close. That's the best part. I have been to some and I would never leave my precious baby with anyone. I remember investigating one place, there was a baby about 14 months old staggering around crying. He was tired. No one noticed him. I picked him up and found someone to put him down for a nap.
My advice, stay home with your babies. I did and I have never been sorry.
if you do have to work that is unfornunate. My heart goes out to those that must work.
Get Gramma to babysit.
