Resurrection

Dear friends,
I was wondering what opinions would be regarding the following scripture :
Quote
Hebrews 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
What does it mean when it says a "better resurrection"

I think it means, rather than denying their faith and being set free for the moment, they held onto their faith and received eternal life at the BETTER ressurection.

Andy 153:
Allow me to respond from the "A Commentary
Of HEBREWS
Based On The Greek New Testament" By Ernest R. Campbell, Th.D., President , Biblion College and Seminary.
I will delete the words that are written in the Greek language and show "()" where these words were omitted.
Hebrews 11:35 "
Women received their dead via ressurrection; and others were tortured, not having accepted the deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
In First Kings 17:17-22, we have a record of how the Lord via
Elijah
raised a widow's son back to life. In Second Kings 4:32-37, the Lord via
Elisha
restored a Shumanammite's child back to life. These two examples illustrate how women by faith had their children raised from the dead.
Next, we observe that others were tortured, the reason why they were tortured, and why they chose this option. The Greek verb translated "tortured () means that they were
beaten with rods and clubs.
This apparently refers to beatings similar to that which Paul and Silas suffered in Philippi (Acts 16:22-23; cf. 2 Cor. 11:25).
According to this context, the reason they were tortured was because they had not "accepted the deliverance." In other words, in the background, me must posit the fact that they were given an option,
either recant or be beaten to death.
The aorist participle indicates that because they did not accept the "deliverance" ()
and release
offdred to them, probably on the basis that they would worship foreign gods, they were exposed to torture unto death (cf.Daniel 3:5-18).
Now we raise the question, Why did these Israelites tenaciously profess the
One True God?
The reason stated is in order "that they might obtain a better resurrection." The fact of a future resurrection was firmly rooted in the minds of the Israelites. The Lord Jesus Christ affirmed the fact that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are alive proves that there is a resurrection (Matt. 22:31-32). He taught that those resurrected are as angels in heaven (Matt. 22:30). He also taught
two resurrections
-unto life and unto judgment (John. 5:28-29).
The apostle Paul also confirms that
the jewish hope involved the resurrection
of the just and unjust (Acts 24:15; cf. Acts 23:6).
Hope this helps.
God Bless.
