Q: What is the shortest chapter in the Bible?

A: Psalms 117

Q: What is the longest chapter in the Bible?

A: Psalms 119

Q: Which chapter is in the center of the Bible?

A: Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

Add these numbers up and you get 1188.

Q:  What is the center verse in the Bible?

A: Psalms 118:8

Q:  Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will for our lives?

The next time someone says they would like to find

God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to

be in the center of His will, just send them to the

center of His Word!

Psalms 118:8

"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Now isn't that odd how this worked out (or was God in the center of it)?

Asaph,

Awesome post. Should anyone ever question such a matter and desire to be in the center of his world...I will be certain to send them digging into the pages of his word. What better place to start then right smack in the middle! Once again great post!

Oklahoma Howdy to Asaph,

Brother, I found your post to be fascinating. Psalms is indeed a beautiful Book of the Bible. It's also interesting to note there is Bible prophecy in Psalms.

I was looking at a group of favorite Scriptures from Psalms when I read your post. I don't believe in coincidence.

Psalms 13:6  I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

Psalms 18:28  For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Psalms 18:46  The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

Psalms 19:14  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalms 31:3  For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy names's sake lead me, and guide me.

Psalms 35:9  Any my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

Love In Christ,
Tom

I'm not sure but I read somewhere that two of the psalms in the LXX were combined into one. This would account for the 154 count. In any case I seriously doubt the author had evil intentions.
update: I just did a search and found this:

14]  For example the LXX has 150 psalms but two pairs in the MT are combined in LXX (9/10 and 114/115), and two in MT are split in two by the LXX (116 and 147). Additionally, Psalm 9/10 and 42/43 are thought to be one Psalm.

Does this add up? I think it does after careful scrutiny. But I could be wrong. Come on you mathematicians.

Hello Brother Asaph,

YES!!!! - God is awesome and without comparison. I am also taking time to draw nearer to the Lord. I am really enjoying my Bible studies. The truth and beauty of His Word never ceases to amaze me. For me, new truths are revealed each time I study a portion of Scripture, regardless of how many times I've studied it before. Some of the younger folks might tell me that I'm losing my memory or have Alzheimer's, and that might be partly true.   Cheesy

Hey BEP,
It is a real pleasure hearing your encouraging words. I sense in you a real desire to know Him more and more. God's word is alive, and we can only be blessed when we read it to know Him more. The verse that says if we draw near to Him and He will draw near to us, is based on the fact that God is love. What a concept. God is love! This is His very essence.
Christ is the subject and center of all scripture. He is the hub of God's eternal purpose.  The central thought of God is Christ as the expression of God with His Body, which is the church. God's purpose is to have His expression in and through Christ with us (the Church). This is why He created us in his image so that we might express Him. Of course Adam fell and man fell short of God's glory. God's glory is simply God expressed. Jesus is the express image of God's glory.
Heb 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.
Christ died for us as a sacrifice for sin to bring us to God through His resurrection for His expression.
We are His body to express two things: His image and His authority. In this way He reveals his glory in us. By seeking God in fellowship we are being conformed to His image. This results in His authority being carried out through us. This also results in us loving our wives and children, friends and neighbors, etc., etc. We even love our enemies!
Thanks for the fellowship,
Keith

This just goes to show that all of God's Word has a important part in out lives. I was laid up last year for 4 months due to surgery and took on the challenge of finding the middle verse in God's Word. After counting all the chapters and all the verses, placing that information in Excel, I found the middle verse(s). Why do I say verse(s)...because the number of verses in God's Word came to and even number (Now that is using the KJV Bible (1912(?) edition).
Any way, I found the middle verse(s) to be Psalm 103:1,2: " 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:".

I had heard all my life (and I'm 42) that Psalm118:8 was the middle verse. This doesn't make either verse, to me, more important than the other(s). It just shows me that all of God's Word is important to His Children. And like many of you, I feel we serve an Awesome and Wonderful God! How precious He is to us all.

God Bless Smiley

Hello EaglePreacher,

I see this is your first post, so WELCOME to Christians Unite!

I see that we have several different answers for center of the Holy Bible, and that's fine. There really are a considerable number of variables in versions, revisions, printings, etc.

It's nice to have you with us.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Psalms 23:3 NASB  He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.
