I got a new Dell!
I have not been here for months, since my 8 year old PC was "a goner". So, I am back in business...and wanted to say....HELLO!

Welcome Back Country Cat!!!
We wondered about you and put you on a prayer list recently. I'm happy to know that it was only a fried computer. I had to go through that about 2 months ago, and it was a major pain, especially losing some family pictures and Bible studies that meant a lot to me. It did make me smarter, and I keep copies of personal things on a regular basis now.
Now, you can say - "Dude - I got a Dell".
I originally wanted a Dell, but I found a big sale on HPs and got much more for what money I had. My old computer that fried was an HP, and it endured many years of hard use. My kids got a Dell about 8 months ago, and they haven't had a problem of any kind.
Welcome Back!!
Love In Christ,
Tom

Brother,
I did think about that, but my favorite programs won't work on it, including my Bible study software. Yes, Windows are open for just about every kind of attack there is. They are being hammered so hard that whole countries are dropping that operating system. I think they are finally listening now, as SP2 for XP is coming out, and it appears to be ALL related to security.
However, it is a pain to install, and all devices, etc., must be updated before you can install Service Pack Two for XP. It looks like it will take a week or more just to prepare for installing it. If you don't update everything first, your printer, scanner, and all kinds of other devices won't work under XP SP2. Did I mention that you also have to update much of your non-Microsoft software to make it compatible with XP SP2? What a pain!!!
I would definitely be interested in hearing from anyone who is already installing XP SP2.
I've definitely read about Apple security. One of my relatives has one and laughs at me all of the time, especially when I talk about security problems.
Love In Christ,
Tom

BEP, I have already installed the two released SP2 hot fixes and have not had any issues whatsoever. Didn't upgrade any drivers prior to this either. Didn't know I was suppose to
Anyways, I have seen no problems, and they were installed about a week or so ago and everythings working as usual.

Good morning!
My Dell is working GREAT! We have installed SP2 at work, and all seems just fine. I do have lots of security on my new PC, Norton, firewall, and I scan all my attachments with Yahoo and Norton. I have never gotten a virus or worm. My husband, however, bought a laptop at Office Depot and it had a virus already on it, we later learned it had been used in the store! It had to be taken to a tech-repair guy who found lots of Office Depot files on it!! Office Depot did nothing!

I got to thinking about this and checked again. The updates I installed are called SP2 quick fix something or other. The SP2 full thingy is suppose to be a rather large DL that will be released on the 22nd. So I'm
at the moment.

I just got a copy of SP2 on a CD at work. I was told by our "tech" to make sure to run ALL maintenance programs first, delete cookies and temp files before installing. She also warns that some OLD programs may not work with this update. All my stuff is new, however.
so~~ we'll see!

2nd Timothy,
Brother, Maybe it was overkill in the instructions for my new computer. I did find updated drivers for my printer and scanner that might have caused problems with SP2. I really don't know, but now I'm ready and I can't find any place offering the updates for SP2. I went to the Windows Update site, did the scan, and it said there were no updates available. I checked my software and hardware manual for my new HP Computer, and it says XP PRO SP1. So, now I'm really confused.
Now, I see that you are getting updates and I can't. I wonder if Bill Gates is getting even with me for talking bad about Windows.
UM?
- I wonder if the Windows Secret Police have me under surveillance.

Countrycat,
UM?
, I'm thinking that I would tell Office Depot that I would get a completely new laptop or I would take out classified ads informing the public about unethical business practices until I did. If it wasn't advertised as used, it would also be worth a report to the Better Business Bureau and telling the manager this would remain a pain until it was made right. I wouldn't stop with he manager of the store, I would keep going to the next higher manager and sending them copies of what has already been done to obtain fair treatment as a customer. It's really sad when large companies like this think they can treat their customers this way and get away with it. I'm not suggesting you take them to court, but I am suggesting that you make them treat you right.

Thanks Tom!
Jim has written to the main office for the chain, and sent photocopies of the tech report and his sales slip, so, we'll see!

I'd like a new Dell. I'd like a new Gateway. I'd settle for something new that works and lets my wife do her job and me play my games and occassionally post here on the website without fear of constant crashing, fire, or explosion. I don't ask for much. Really...
