 Angry
I have recently found my way back to the Christian life and wouldn't have it any other way. However, nearly every one of my friends are poking fun at me saying things like "you go to church?!". I have no desire to even be around these people if they can't accept the fact that I have changed my life for the better. I know it sounds like high school, but it's not. These are college educated adults in their late 20's. Has anyone else dealt with this and if so how did you handle it?

I'm sure most here can relate to this alliecat.   As the world did not accept Christ when he was in it, it will not accept us either as He is in us.  We should expect to face the same sort of ridicule as Christ did, but thats a blessed thing in the eyes of God.

1Pe 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
1Pe 4:14  If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified

Your friends are seeing the affects of Christ in your life.  This is a good thing!  And should reassure you that His handywork is already evident in the changes he is making in you.  They will probably be the first ones to point out your shortcomings as well....like...a Christian shouldn't be doing that!   Just hold fast to the Lord friend.  I can assure you that even though your friends might make fun of you, there is a part of them, deep inside, that also longs for the peace and happiness that Christ has given you.

Don't let the devil bring you down.  You are on the winning side now, and God is already making his presense felt in your little corner of the world.    Smiley

How do you handle it?  Be patient, let God love them through you, and know that you are His child!

Yes, I'd say that most Christians have had to endure this. So what? Don't let it get to you, and don't hang out with them. It's their choice to be close-minded.

There is a saying out there like this;

Sticks and Stone may Break my bones, but names will never hurt me.

Calling anyone Names Does Hurt People!! People that think name calling is bad should re-read Jesus Teachings from His Living Word.  Matthew 7:1-5

Gosh, I'm 45 and have been dealing with this my entire life.  Why, I remember back in high school, on saturday night, I said I had to leave a party because I wanted to make the early service at church the next morning.  one of the gals looked at me totally incredulous and said, "YOU GO TO CHURCH?Huh"  Like I was some kind of nutcase or leper or something.  I said, "you bet I do, have a problem with that?" (trying to talk her language).  She just looked at me funny...and that's just one occurance, but one of the first that really sticks in my brain.

Get used to it - it's part of being Christain, but I think the negativity is more from ignorance and you really have to feel sorry for those who are so ignorant regarding faith.  We know our lives will never end - what have they got hope for after death? I shudder to think about it.  Just be kind, be a good witness to your faith and always remember there will be some that will persist in their negativity and there is nothing more you can do for them but add them to your prayers.

Sorry..got on a roll, didn't I!

I know I'm kinda behind.  I just can't help but wonder . . .are you complaining?  You shouldn't.  The bible says:  (can't remember where) but you should celebrate when people persectute you in Jesus' name.  You should scream and shout, because you know you did anything in your power to make them see the light.  So rejoice!
Another thing. . . I also wonder if you would be willing to die for your faith.   Buy the books read about her life.  You know what she did?  She died for her faith, and went through the same thing you are going through now.  But you must, must, must forget about the rejection, because it is not you whom they have rejected but God.  If he calls them to be saved, maybe it's because you told them, or they will be reminded of how you told them.  But above all .. .

Rejoice and Worship!
