One distinction might be that today things really are "global"--where anyone can be found virtually anywhere, anytime--global surveillance.
And "instant" communications. And an internet where stories and news ignite literally instantaneously.
One latest twist might be the audio chat rooms-- intense conference calls without the expense of traditional telephones.
And global travel. Moving vast armies in weeks or months, to the other side of the planet..
Everything today literally on a global scale.
How much more "global" can you get?
Everything is not quite as global as you put it. The world is linked together in many ways yes, but we still remain seperated. School systems teach to their own local standards, not a global program. Nations still compete against each other for power, money, and land, that proves that these 3 assets are also seperate between nations. We are much more "global" than we were when the first quote came out, but we are not purely global.
